After living here for a couple years and giving up on the idea of playing magic with anyone over the age of 11 (besides my fiancee), I read on starcity that people in Madison, WI LOVE Standard.... that's news to me, but if there's bunches of people that are serious about Standard...

Where are they?
and
Does anybody also play Type 1?

I'm from madison, and let me tell ya, the T! scene there BLOWS...If you want, give a shotout (PM) to Uncle Istvan. He's a member oif the team in WI. Go to Misty Mountain Games wedensday nights (in Monona) and there'll be lots of players there (type one is a different story). Anyways, I'll be back december 21st for break, so if you want, PM me then and I'll show you the ropes.

I go to school at Madison.  Misty Mountain Games has lots of T2, draft, and the occasional extended.  However, the T1 scene is fairly dead.  I usually only play T1 when I go home for the summer, or during breaks.

If your into anything other than T1 misty mountain has lots of players.

Knoxville, Tennessee has the worst T1 scene on the face of the earth. People here are amazed when you list off the power 9 cards.

It's true.  All of the real T1 action in the state is in the Eau Claire region.  If you live in Eau Claire you have friday night T1 at Adventurers Guild, two T1's a month at Fountain of Youth and you are close enough to drive into Minneapolis to play in the big T1 tournaments at Dreamer's.

Madison and Milwaukee aren't very good, though.

I wouldn't even mind to play T1 against people's T2 decks, though I'd be pretty disappointed if I coudln't post a decent w/l fraction. Smile

I used to (try) to play at a shop where nobody wanted to play with me because I had a sol ring, recall (we're not talking Ancestral here, folks), ivory tower, and Time Spiral in my blue deck. "We don't allow cards like that around here, because there's too many one-turn kills in Type 1". The best part was that my deck was so janky... I could barely win at all!

What is the feeling like at Misty Mountain? Could someone take a Type 1 casual deck there and wreck some T2 kiddie house, or would that not be tolerated?

SOme people are cool, others are assholes...speaking of assholes, try to avoid the JSS champs...I whooped on some kid playing fully-powered TnT, and he had the biggest bith-fit, I'd EVER seen. his name?:

Josh Taybock...what a dildo...oh well, there are some really cool guys that hang out there who will play type 1 with their extended decks. It gets boring though, as you'll win like 10000000000000000000000000000 00000000000000000000000000000 0000000 times in a row and lose once cause you have a bad hand or get mana-screwed, at which point people start gathering and say "OMG!!!! WTF!!! SCRUB BEAT A DECK WITH MOXES!!!!!!" It's rather amusing. Anyways, talk to Uncle Istvan or PM me...I'll be back for break the 22nd, so maybe we can playtest some.

Milton: If your planning to come down to Wisc. this winter break, LMK. I'd love to meet another TMD member.

Quote When are the tournaments at Dreamer's?

Friday nights, drawing usually 15-20 people.  Then, on the second sunday of every month they have a tournament for a big card, usually a Mox or a Walk or something.  Those tournaments usually get 30-40 people.  That's next weekend, if you want to go.  The field is very, very skilled, though.
