Since TMD is a Type I oriented site, I will begin with the assumption that most people here participate in completetive Type I play. It isn't a perfect assumption, certainly (I am an exception), but it is a place to start.

Do many of those people who often play competetive Type I also play other formats?

I ask because, in some cases, there is an elitism egotism present, in favour of Type I. I occasionally hear 'Go play Type II' touted as some sort of insult. Certainly, some people treat it as a serious alternative to Type I, citing a slower pace and a clearer metagame as its advantages, rather than scorning them. I would personally add that budget Type II is easier, cheaper, and more successful than budget Type I.

Anyhow, I've digressed. For the record, the formats that I play are, in order of importance to me:

1) unstructured casual
2) structured casual (Peasant, Highlander, Emperor, etc...)
3) Type II

Reading TMD has gotten me interested in other formats, but it's clear to me that a competetive Type I deck (even what passes for a budget deck) is not within my budget. Extended just doesn't seem like much fun to me, but if I am ever inclined to invest a "large" amount of money into the game, I would almost certainly pursue Type 1.5 (Type I.V?)

There is obviously a sense of favoring T1 over other formats as this is a heavily Vintage-oriented site. I'm sure on other sites the general attitude is favoring the format of focus over the alternatives. I think some people are "closet t2 players" though

I play everything, but less draft because I don't have much spare time to sit around and draft. I also like constructed stuff better...

I like Type 1, Type 1.5, and Type 1.X. In that order. Though if 1.5 were more popular, I'd probably love that the most. For my part, I just can't play the smaller formats because the small card pool feels like I'm asphixiating.

Oh, and elitism is the wrong word. Here's a few of the finer excerpts of Azhrei's crusade against misusing this particular word:
Quote
Quote Azhrei: "Okay, this is the LAST TIME. To be elitist is to believe that the perceived elite deserve special treatment. It has nothing to do with anyone's belief about their own status. The next person who misuses this word is going to get a warning for rampant and blatant illiteracy."
Monotone: "That sounds rather elietest.  Better be careful or you will upset someone."
Quote
Quote Azhrei: "What illiterate fuckheads fail to understand is that a belief in elitism is in no way, shape, or form necessarily related to seeing oneself as elite. You can be utterly incompetent at all things and still think that people who are superior in certain ways deserve special benefits for it, even if it's as intangible as respect."
K-Run: "Azhrei, you're the new Negator."
Luc, Use the Force: "Azhrei, I really need your address, I'll ship you an Illusions of Grandeur, and I'd like to get it back, signed by you."
Just FYI. =)

I strictly play T1.  I don't have the time or money to play T2.

There are weeks/months where I just plain old don't have time to play any games.  If I were playing T2, I might miss a whole set release - and I certainly would already be behind.  T1 used to be very stagnant, but it has increased in activity, and the meta now fluctuates more now than ever.

I don't think T2 is bad, or 1.5 or whatever else, but "go play T2" is definately intended as an insult when it is uttered on this site.

Concerning elitism, I stand corrected. Perhaps egotism would be a more appropriate word.

That blast about elitism was great.  As for me, I must admit that I almost exclusive play type 1.  I think I have an inherent bias against type 2.  However I will say that I do enjoy drafting and I will run type 2 decks against freinds that need to playtest.
