Ya know, that capitalization of "MEN" really seems like something I would expect JP to edit into one of your posts. Smile

Wow - where did you get that?  That's totally wrong.

2002-11-08 is my first article and then the GroAtog article was in early March - making that deck popular.

After seeing this thread I went back and checked my messages.  I too got one of these special requests.  As far as the content is concerned...whatever.  I have no opinion on this issue.

My problem is that Jhaggs PMed me and not someone like Azhrei.  This is indicative of a more subtle problem on these boards.  People assume that simply because I post that I know a lot about the format.  While I know more than the average person about Vintage, I would like to point out the fact that there is no necessary correlation between number of posts and quality of player.  Jacob has the most posts right now and he is an excellent player.  But it doesn't necessarily mean that this must be the case.  It is just slightly more than a coincidence.  Another example proves otherwise.  Jeff, Samite Healer, is one of the better Vintage players in New England.  He has a good number of posts, but not a ton.  To use post counts to determine player quality is specious at best.  It reminds me of the story behind the famous "Dewey Wins!" headline.  Polling had just started to be a business and in order to poll as many people as possible the polling companies called people on the phone and asked who the voted for.  A large majority said the Republican Dewey.  However, by using the phone, the polling companies accidentally selected out those too poor or in too rural an area to own a phone, the vast majority of whom voted against the Republican Dewey.  Thus Truman's win.

People mistake being vocal or making quality posts and arguments (which I try to do) for being good at the game and this is a disservice to the format.  I think the major issue I have is that posting here has become a proxy for playskill, something that should never happen.  I am still relearning how to play with restricted cards.  I spent years building T2 and 1.x decks exclusively and the nuanced skill both when playing and building decks has yet to fully impact my thinking.

I guess I have no real problem posting, unless Zherbus finds it problematic, but someone better than I am should be consulted instead of me.

I don't really care who posts over there. If you have the free time, have at it. I just don't understand what you'd want to do that for.

You're mixing two famous polling errors.  The first was when Literary Digest put out polling ballots to those who were in selected phone books and owners of automobiles.  This was for the 1935 election, and they predicted Landon beating Roosevelt.  Roosevelt went on to win in one of the biggest margins in Presidential electoral history.  The second, when Dewey "beat" Truman, the error was due to an early shutdown of polls, when the majority of undecided "swing" voters didn't vote until late in the evening.

Oh I read it, but I think that's back when I was too young to form explicit memories. Damn, that was two years ago? Shocking.

Also, Matt's got more posts than Jacob at this point, though I have no idea when that happened. In pure, blind speculation, it coincided with a jump in JP posts, so I'll assume they had a flamewar in the Mod Lounge and break out the trumpets for a genocidal war of the mods which should hit the regular forums any time now.

*sits back to watch the fireworks* :-D

No, it's because I'm on spring break.
-Jacob

It's also because I use the Card Creation forum, which necessarily takes up like 10 posts per day.
-Matt

It's because there were two Tog threads going on
