I am not trying to get anyone to flame me or the forum, but I put up a post on Star City <a href="http://get-faster.com?go=games" onmouseover="window.status = 'goto: games';return 1" onmouseout="window.status=''">Games</a>...

Keeper Combo; Decree of Justice?
      #54699 - Sun Jul 27 2003 09:15 AM

Is there anyone who thought of it before that or at least agreed with me then?

Other. Im 90% sure it was Leviat? He came on IRC and someone's still got the quote going around.. it went something like:

Leviat:Does anyone think Decree of Justice could be used as a kill card for Keeper?
Zherbus: :/
CrazyCarl: My version of keepatog is the bombzor

good laugh looking back on that quote. Again, I'm not positive it was leviat but I think so.

Leviat - circa spoiler for Scourge time.

Not that it matters though, many tried it out at that time but it didn't get used until later when Mud made a bigger dent.

This is sort of a silly thread because regardless who "invented" it for keeper, [card]Decree of Justice[/card] is just one of those no brainer kind of cards. I think it's potential was pretty obvious as soon as anyone laid their eyes upon the spoiler.

As soon as I saw it I tried to start a conversation about it on IRC but it immediately go shotdown as being inferior (and slow) compared to the almighty Psychatog (in the metagame at that time it was pretty much true). However, that didn't stop me from messing around with it in my keeper builds at the time.

Meanwhile, a local here by the name of Derek Collins was going to a Waterbury tournament when Scourge finally became tournament legal and promised to play one Decree in his Keeper for me (since I couldn't make it). As far as I know, that was the first time it was used in large-scale non-sanctioned play and it was a great surprise tactic because noone else was playing Stifle. (Except for CrazyCarl because that was the tournament where he made Stifle popular. Carl also popularized Goblin Trenches there but Neutral Ground had been playing long before then, and now I'm getting way off the subject).

However, as is the way of the Type-1 community, nothing really becomes popular until a (loud) voice makes it so. When the meta slowed and Zherbus finally released his latest version of Keeper with Decree of Justice, that's probably when it became most popular. It was good timing too because Landstill was becoming popular at the same time and (at least around here) the white splash for Decree was best because of it's synergy with Standstill.

So that's my brief take on Decree of Justice in Type-1. The card was obviously good and used pretty much as soon as it could have been, as soon as the meta slowed down (Jan-1) I think pretty much everyone and their brother tried it out.

I played with 1 decree at the November Waterbury in my keeper. It took me to ninth.

By then decree was well known.

I agree with leviat, it was sort of obvious, though he definitely DID mention it before anyone else, that I know of.

Q: who first thought of using Trinisphere in artifact prison decks?
Q: who first thought of using thoughtcast in t2 affinity?

I don't think these are very interesting questions. More interesting would be 'who came up with a not so obvious combo like food chain gobbos?'

Yes I know a silly thread, but one that seemed to draw some attention, I just like to give people credit for it.  Congrats leviat.

And yes you can end this if you like, I was just curious, I would ask about Morphling but better I don't.

Thanks again guys.

Morphling was a lot worse before the Sixth Edition rules let you put combat damage on the stack, so I'd guess it was first used in Keeper no earlier than April 27th, 1999

First place that Morphling was used was actually a month before that at the Invitational as the Keeper kill card seeing how Mirror Universe didn't work any more.
