does naming fire/ice work? or just ice or fire?
my gut feeling is fire/ice, but someone tells me i have to name the component
which doesn't really make sense to me, because it's ONE card
the oracle text doesn't help, nor does rule 505

This is incorrect.

You must name both halves.

505.7. If an effect instructs a player to name a card and the player wants to name a split card, the player must name both halves of the split card.
