Hello,
It looks like I'll end up moving out to Champaign for school next year, and I'm wondering what the Type 1 (or any gaming, for that matter) scene is like out there. There's got to be something either at the university or, at the very least, Chicago or Indianapolis, right? I was out there a few weeks ago and I didn't see much, but I wasn't really out there to check out the magical cards. Any kind of response would be appreciated, thanks.

We're here. Though I don't make it to the smaller events with any regularity. :) http://www2.uiuc.edu/ro/mtg/http://www.cumagic.com/And in suburbs like Niles (a couple hours north of Chambana), there's Pastimes, where a lot of PTQs are, if you're into that sort of thing. (Just remember, kids: Type 2 causes cancer.)

Thanks a lot *G*
And I guess that's why there aren't any Type2 PTQs.

Dr. Sylvan is always too mean to play T1 though. in·do·lent - adj. Disinclined to exert oneself; habitually lazy. Conducive to inactivity or laziness; lethargic: humid, indolent weather. Causing little or no pain: an indolent tumor. Slow to heal, grow, or develop; inactive: an indolent ulcer. Besides, Brant keeps borrowing my Power. :)

Phil doesn't like playing Type 1 nearly as much as he enjoys calculating the probability that a fully powered Dragon deck will combo out on turn 2, do your math homework, and bring about world peace, all while being wielded by some random scrub.
Oh, btw, I'll be attending the Illinois Institute of Technology next year, and I'm hoping to become a regular in the Chicago area T1 scene.

Probability is for people who like math. I'm just into counting. Counting is almost like pr0n. <3 data entry work.
Congrats to Shayne on his hot scholarship axxion. And actually owning a dual land. :P
I think I got a PM from Browser at some point that indicated he was in the area, too. Maybe someday I'll be in my own article. [/whimsical fantasy]

If there are more prizes like workshops or power, I'll bet we can get a good turnout, but I haven't seen those advertised since....well, ever, at gaming depot. Or is this something they're trying to start.

Ron(owner of The Gaming Depot) has recently bought some workshops and a TimeTwister and he won't have a problem putting them up as prize as long as we get a good turn out. I'm goin to talk to him this sunday and ask him when we are goin to have tournies for a workshop or twister. I'll post what he decides on. --Manuel--

Workshops!? Oh cruel fate, the card that would define my T1 collection (I'm big into Prison decks) and I most likely cannot make the tournaments! Ah well, I'm not certain I could make a deck decent enough to compete, anyway. I sorta lack duals and power, and that tends to hurt one's chances at winning, I hear.

Well, Landstill could be good for assholes... It's all like "Make my day, break my Still, I'll ge tthree cards and still kick your ass witha 2/1 flying Fairy, biotch!"
Still, I'm more of a fan of the whole "I'm so frickin cool because I have 20 permanents and you have 0" thing.

Duuuuuuuuuuuuude I used to live in Illinois! I wish I knew about all these T1 Tournaments! I went on vacation last year & went to the Brookfield Zoo, that wasn't too far off. Now I live in Hawaii & people here only play the new stuff. Gay!

wow. There's a lot more going on around me than i know. I live in Joliet, IL and i goto college at Illinois State which has a direct bus route to Champaign/Urbana and isn't too far anyway. I was there for some hardcore partying 3 times this year. I'm really getting into Type 1 so this is good information to know.

Hrmmm. I find this interesting. I live down in Southern Illinois and we basically have no type 1 scene that I'm aware of. If you guys throw trounaments... I'll be sure to head up. What kind of attendence do you usually get? Are decks usually fully powered? Right now I'm out at Hadley for school and everyone here is a beast when it comes to type 1. lol. But I'm coming home and will certainly need to keep busy this summer.

Although if it wasn;t 5 proxy you are aware that most are not powered and that is a loss of instrests, for them. jason And in suburbs like Niles (a couple hours north of Chambana), there's Pastimes, where a lot of PTQs are, if you're into that sort of thing.
