Well, Saturday was my absolute worst tournament experience. It could have very well been one of the best tourneys but it turned out ass for me.

For those of you who went to Stok's dual lotus tournament on saturday 3/20/04, you may remember Stok giving a brief announcement on someone losing a deck. That someone was me.

Here was what got stolen from me:
4X Mishra's Workshop
1X Black Lotus
1X Mox Jet
1X Mox Emerald
1X Ancestral Recall
Standard Slaver.dec cards including foil versions.

Needless to say, I was very upset since I didn't just lose the cards, those cards were outright STOLEN from me.

I do have a prime suspect and have good reason the theft was pre-meditated by more than 1 person (Me being the random unlucky victim).

I did try and confiscate one of the person I suspected but since I was only  able to confiscate one person, I can not fully confirm they didn't do it.

Now, everyone who played in the tournament knew round 2 got screwed up and my suspects left BEFORE the 2nd round 2 so perhaps Stok, Jeff Anand or someone else there can help me track down people who unintentionally dropped before the 2nd round 2 begun.

If 4 or less people unintentionally dropped before round 2, those names are most likely the people who have stolen my cards.

I know its a long shot and even if I do find those people, I doubt I can prove they stole my cards but at least I am trying my best to do what I can.

Thanx to any help in advance.

P.S. Thanx for all the kind magic players who tried to help me during the tournament.

Can you confirm that those players were playing in the tourney? If so, I am sure Stokinger will be giving out the names.

The value is around $2000? I am sure this is grand theft, is it not? With names, you might even be able to get the police involved. If not, I am sure you can get a few enforcers (*wink*, *wink*) to sort this matter out.

Something similar happened at the Ontario Championships, expect I think the 2 people stealing the deck are actually in a photo Mittlestead took. Again, just before round 3. Something really ought to be done.

And yes, it is strange that they left before the second round, as even a first-game loss might comfortably make top-8 if they win the rest.

Sorry I can't be of more help, but the enforcer option is still open.

it's stories like this that make me keep my power no less than 12 inches from me at all times.  i take them with me to the bathroom at card shops unless i came with someone trustworthy.  i feel your pain as i'm sure a lot of us have had cards ganked from us before, just not on this magnitude.  stealing thousands of dollars worth of magic cards off someone is just wrong.  i hope you find them and they are dealt what they deserve in the end.  i'd say if the two people you suppose are the perps look like shisty people, those are your men.  it's silly why someone would leave after the 2nd round in a tourny of that size.  unless of course, they were all of a sudden $2000 richer.  remember, the simplest answer is usually the right answer.

good luck,
joe

I've been keeping an eye on mtgnewsand magictraders watching to see if anyone posts these cards up for sale. I figure if he is stupid enough to steal the cards, he is stupid enough to post them.

I'm just glad I decided to run broodstarrunner and needed to borrow a lot of your power.

My sympathies go out to you.  I found a wallet on the floor at Columbus and promptly returned it to Andy Stok.  I hope he found the owner of it.  I hope you find the people who stole your deck too.  Seems like a lot of stuff went missing that day.

To all, this was grand theft. When this happens call the police and make a report. In most cases you won't get your cards back, but it lets everyone there know what happened. Someone might have seen something and spoke up. Plus it sounds like the T.O. made it seem like "you" lost them.

This is a really saddening story, and the reason why I proxy all my power and keep the real cards in hard cases in my side pocket of a pair of cargo pants when I play at tourneys

One of my team members found a deck on the floor at the last Waterbury with an UL Black Lotus and we promptly turned it into the tourney organizer.  This stuff is too valuable to not take precautions.

Good luck,

Sorry to hear about something like this

The same thing happened to me last year, which is why I am a budget player. I was at a tourney and left my cards unwatched for no more than a minute and they were gone (Was an early GAT/GRO with all the Trimmings) and since then I have just never even thought about getting power again.

Sucks major balls when this kinda stuff happens

Seriously, there is no way any other person would have stolen my cards.

If I find that shithead again, I am gonna drive a fucking truck over him. Well, okay, its not like he murdered my family, but I will still kick his ass.

I am really reconsidering mindlessly going to tournaments, nevermind trying to bring an expensive deck to one.

Out of curiosity, does anybody ever give you hell for this?  I'm always looking for opportunities to better protect valuable cards, and this is something that hadn't occurred to me yet.

I really wish that something like this could just be an accepted thing to do in type 1.

sorry to hear that P_f, i'm sure you could get the police involved somehow.  hope you find the culprits and kick serious butt.  on a very serious note, on big tournaments- when seatings numbers aren't mandatory, i always sit next to a teammate, but he's sitting on the otherside.. (get it?), so that he can watch over my cards, and i can watch over his cards.  of course if there was a seating arrangement, it wouldn't work, but if the tables are arranged in a grid or columnar fashion, even two or three rows away, you can usually still see your teammate's deck or back.

@Katzby

Oddly enough, the only players that give me shit about it are budget players who ask if the cards in my deck are "real" or not.  I have never been questioned by fellow power owners.  Nothing will sway me to play with real power because I have already heard of someone in my local area dropping a Jet on a floor and losing it forever.  Also, I have several serious Type 1 decks, but only 1 set of power.
