LA Gems Type 1 Tournement

I need to get a quick headcount on who all would be able to make it to a tourney on May 8th, at Gems in La Mirada.  It will be a power tourney.  Please let me know if there are any major objections...

May 8th is Mother's Day Weekend.  I can't make it, and I think you will find that many others won't be there either (because of last-minute family obligations that they will 'suddenly' remember).

Let's do April (but NOT THE 10th or the 30th)...

...and then again in May (but not the 1st or the 1st or the 8th)...

I'll answer these in the order in which they were asked, or in the order in which I'm less annoyed by them- Dave, you'll notice you're last either way.

Yes, it will be a 5 proxy tournament.  The only way it wouldn't be a 5 proxy tournament was if it was a 10 proxy tournament, but for right now, it seems that 5 proxies have been working out really well, so we'll stay with that.


Now Dave.  The problem is, we can't do it the 1st or the 24th (April) because they're moving out of that store and into the next.  We can't do it the 15th because that's PT San Diego, which will likely have a side event that most guys will want to play in.  And so we're left with either the 17th or the 11th.  The 17th simply doesn't leave enough time to get stuff together, and on top of that, it's gonna still be in the old store (they're moving to a larger location in the same shopping center).

I pose this question to all you castrated (read: Married) men out there- is there any possible way you'd be able to get away for the Saturday part of Mother's Day?

As for your May 8th date, it's not looking good but I will do what I can to MOVE MOTHER'S DAY.

I know 5 ppl that will most probably be there, but with it on mother's day I can't speak for them. As for me, I probably won't know until about a few hourse before it starts   .

How often are these power tournies going to occur at Gems now? Cus' the more power tournies in So Cal the merrier.

Is it just me, or isn't Mother's Day a Sunday?  If that's the case, I fail to see the conflict of interest, outside of you, James (DAT on TMD), and a few random others being pansies without genetalia strong enough to stand up to your wives (yes, that's the genetalia standing up to the wife- notice the innuendo).


I really wish there was another day we could do it, but it's really looking like there's not.  Let me know if anybody has any suggestions- I'm about a day away from officially announcing.

Mother's Day is, in fact, on Sunday.  However, many of us are married (ie, not living with mom), and we see her on SATURDAY to avoid various conflicts.  

Anyway, without me and Tony there, some random third party will have to win.

Pat, looking at the recent poll results i would say that the 8th, is not a good idea. I also think that the poll will not show real results. As dave said i think a lot of last min obligations will come up. How bout a different week.

Dave, don't bother. The tournament is either going to be held at the very end of May (29th), or early in June (right after youngsters graduate).

TracerBullet, Jaco, or whoever it is that's running the show, you could easily turn this into a tournament for a Black Lotus.  I guarantee you will get a much higher turn out and judging from the last Gems tournament, you could do this regularly.

Getting the figure from the last 34 player tournament:

The first place prize was $160.  If you eliminate cash prize support for the 4th to 8th place, you're add $150.  If you upped the fee by $10, you get an additional $340.

$160 + $150 + $ 340, you're get $650.  More than enough to get a Black Lotus in decent condition.

Here's what's going on-

I just started a second job, so I've been uber-busy over the last three weeks.

Every date in May is taken.  Every single one.  The 2nd won't work, as there is the moving issue and the fact that I have a mandatory job training day that day (not even to mention Regionals).  The 9th is Mother's Day, meaning many others can't go.  The next weekend is PT San Diego, the weekend of the 22nd is the Prerelease weekend (the only POSSIBLE date in May), and the 29th is the KublaCon in San Fran, which I'm tenatively planning on going to.

As of right now, there is no date set.  I want input from anybody who has an idea on exactly what we should do.  Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
