Free Market
3
Artifact
Whenever a spell is put on the stack, counter that spell if controller doesn't pay X, where X is the number of cards with the same name in controller's graveyard.

It is all about that the more of that one you want, the more its going to cost ya'. The pricing is okay fair, since it doesn't stop Moxen or restricted cards, but mostly just the stables. There are countless way to use this to your advantage, but if the casting cost is higher then 3, I think it would be to weak.

Current Version:

Free Market
5
Artifact
All spells cost X less to play, where X is the same number of cards in controller's graveyard with the same name.

Nice. I like it. The casting cost seems about right.

It's weaker but easier to cast than cephalid shrine. But then, Cephalid shrine is really awful. I'd say it could be cost at 2.

In fact, it could probably be cost at 0 and still never see play. But 2 seems ok.

This is good in what situation?

It can't even oppose multiple rituals, since they're all on the stack together. And it only sleightly hampers opponents that want to use Mana Drain multiple times. It's only merit is that it makes a second Force of Will no longer free anymore. That might just as well cost only zero mana.

And hey, it's a free market. Get it? Free market? No mana cost? Hahahaha  .

This really doesn't seem like what a free market would be doing. When I think of a market, I think of some exchange happening:

Free Market
2
Artifact
3, T: Choose target creature. That creature's controller names a number less than or equal to that creature's converted mana cost. You may pay that amount of life. If you do, gain control of that creature.

The point was that with free market in the world, the more you buy, the more expensive things get. I'm not sure I know the correct term in english for this.

This isn't necessarily even the case. The only thing that's pretty much guaranteed to decline is your marginal utility. If you're the only buyer of a monopolistically produced good with serious economies of scale, increasing your consumption could actually reduce the price.

Why would the wording, "Whenever a spell is played" work? I see no rules reason to use the word "stack" on this card, and it looks really ugly with it on there.

It's symmetrical, and for 5 you might save a mana--maybe two! Even at 0 this would still be a bad card.

Jacob Orlove: This card is totally destroyed now. Either its already done before, or it just plain sucks. Request for thread close.
