As far as I can tell making Affinity viable is just a matter of adding Duress
and FOW to deal with the relevant hate. I haven't really played much type
one lately but have been checking out Morphling.de so I've built this to
mirror the European metagame. As awesome as Shrapnel blast is I'm not
playing red as extra damage isn't exactly in short supply...

Kill:20
4 Myr Enforcer
4 Somber Hoverguard (These are here because they are FOW bait as well
as being a non-Artifact threat)
4 Frogmite
4 Arcbound Ravager
4 Disciple of the Vault

Disruption: 8
4 Force of Will
4 Duress

Brokenness:12
4 Skull Clamp
4 Thoughtcast (Why isn't this getting played???)
1 Yawgmoth's Will
1 Demonic Tutor
1 Timewalk
1 Ancestrall

Mana:20
1 Tolarian Academy
4 Seat of The Synod
4 Vault of Whispers
4 Underground Sea
1 Mana Crypt
1 Lotus
5 Moxen

The mana is solid, the disruption's there, and it plays 9 ancestralls.
What's there not to love? Anyway, I'm looking forward to playing
against some real type one stuff this weekend. I actually got second
place in a really small local type one tourney with a type two version
beating fully powered Scepter Control so I'm pretty confident it can
swing with the best. The main reason I like this deck
is that it's essentialy aggro but can just go off with the clamp "late" game.
In my experience hate has been a lot less effective than everyone says it should be. Of course this is type one so things are a
touch more difficult. Comments would be appreciated but I'm pretty
confident it can work. Any relevant suggestions are appreciated. Oh yeah
here's a sideboard...

Sideboard
4 Genesis Chamber (Vs. Control)
4 Stifle (Stops Deed, Disk, Wasteland)
4 ???
3 ???

Actually, Thoughtcast is a pretty good draw card, the problem with Affinity lies in its gaping weakness to mana denial and Null Rod, cards that are both common in nearly every tournament.

The mana base (and nearly all the creatures, as well) are really really hurt by Gorilla Shaman; in your base, 15/20 sources are "edible".

The second problem is Null Rod really shuts everything in the deck down; the lands (Arti-Lands), the creatures (Ravager), and the engine (Clamp). Since Null Rod is so easy to run and is played in nearly every budget deck, Affinity is going to have a hard time.

However, they are working on a Type 1 version of Ravager Affinity in the Type I forums, I suggest you take a look over there to get your build pointed in the right direction.

TfK is all right, but it's not better than Thoughtcast, Skullclamp, or any of the three-mana draw7s. There's hardly any room at all as it is, and anyway the one thing this deck does NOT lack is draw power.

I have been working on an affinity build for a while now and am going to have a friend bring it to Waterbury this weekend.  Though it varies from your deck because I included red.  There are so many good red cards that help such as goblin welder, artifact hate, and wheel of fortune.  The welder is insane and also I have been experimenting with blood moons in the board.  This is awsome since your artifact lands become mountains but nstill count as artifacts so you can sac them to the ravager or slide them out with welder.  Just an idea

I have been fooling around with affinity lately. I've chosen a bit of a different approach, heres the list:

//Mana:
3x Darksteel Citadel
4x Glimmervoid
4x Seat of the Synod
4x Vault of Whispers
3x Tree of Tales
4x Dark Ritual
1x Mana Vault
1x Sol Ring
1x Lotus Petal
1x Grim Monolith
1x Tolarian Academy

//Beats
4x Frogmite
4x Myr Enforcer
3x Broodstar
4x Arcbound Crusher

//Prison
2x Damping Matix
4x Chalice of the Void
3x Sphere of Resistance

//Other
4x Thoughtcast
1x Diminishing Returns
1x Regrowth
1x Memory Jar
1x Yawgmoth's Will
1x Tinker

Its a work in progress, the sideboard would contain mostly green stuff (Xantid Swarms, Naturalize, Oxidize, Damping Matrix etc.).

The Chalices are great against Rods, Matrixes Protect against Shamans, Disks, Kegs etc. The Spheres have alot of synergy w/ affinity. Crushers get fat fast, and it stays. Broodstar has won me plenty of games and is a fairly obvious inclusion.

I think that a more refined build of this deck would prove to be very successful.

I don't think you can reliably run Force of Will in your deck with only 14 blue spells with 4 of them being Forces and 2 being Ancestral and Walk.  The only time you would pitch an Ancestral, Walk, or Thoughtcast is when it's stoping a Null Rod but any other time those spells are your game winners.  You could more reliably use FOW if you cut Duresses for more blue cards.
