Well I've been playing magic for about two month's now and decided to create a deck. This is my deck that I usually play in social games of magic and wanted to play for Waterbury's tourney though I was quite sure it would get rocked even with the addition of proxing power 5. As it stands the side board is a bit on the incomplete side and I am currently testing and making significant changes to it. It's very much a budget deck costing under ten bucks to build. I am hoping to change to the point where I can take down some other decks surprisingly.

//Lands
10 islands
10 mountains

//Creatures
4 willbenders
4 scornful egotists ( all pimped out by Crazy Carl Winters)
4 iron myrs
4 silver myrs
2 zombie cutthorats

Blue Spells

4 counter spells
4 energy taps
4 rush of knowledge
1 braingyser (pimped black boarder by  Crazy Carl Winters)

Red Spells
4 Fireballs
2 Lightning Bolts
3 disintegrate

though I am tempted to switch some things around it works rather well in most social matches I've played with it. I am considering faster burn like chain lightning. I also for a while considering running things to bounce creatures back to people's hands like distorting wake and echo truth. Feel free to make suggestions.

:shock:

If you plan to go to a waterbury tournament theres gonna need to be a serious overhaul.

Your deck skeleton seems to be a counterburn deck style. A successful archetype that could be classified in this category is a deck called "Landstill." It runs the same colors and might be the kind of competative deck you are looking for. I know, yes it may be pricy, but the budget forum is where you should go for cheap alternative deck.

In fact, I just realized while writing this that u/r fish seems to fit the bill. It is less controlling than landstill but is still a powerful deck with strong hate tools like null rod. Not a very expensive deck in type 1 standards. (You may say duals are expensive but really there not if you save up and they will greatly aid you for the rest of the time you play type 1). Just search for the deck threads in the budget forum and they should get you started.

Well I am going to Waterbury but, I am going to play a different deck than this. I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions for it.

All right, I can see how having face down Scornful Egotists helps you play the shell game with your Willbenders and Cutthroats. However, I only see two cards that take advantage of the Egotist's high converted mana cost. You could easily replace three or four of the Fireball/Disintegrate with Torrent of Fire. That would allow you to circumvent Energy Tap in using the Egotists to burn your opponent.

Also, it is my experience that generally 10/10 mana splits often leave people colour-screwed. It seems that none of your red spells costs more than a single red mana to play and there are fewer red spells, besides. I think you could very easily go to a 13 Island/7 Mountain or 14 Island/6 Mountain split. To be honest, I'd probably cut the mana-Myr altogether and replace them with 4 Darksteel Ingots and 2 more Lightning Bolts, then go with a 15/7 split. As it is, you don't want to be wasting your big burn spells on spot removal, so more Lightning Bolts would help there. Darksteel Ingots aren't as fast as the Mana-Myr, but they're much more efficient. Furthermore, rather than being a mana ability attached for a fragile creature, it's a mana ability attached to an indestructible artifact. That means that some joker dropping Engineered Plague and naming "Myr" doesn't show down your acclerated mana.

Did you know that Red is the color or art and music and passion? Combine that with Green, the color of nature, spiritualism, and community and you get a hippie commune of drum circles, dreamcatchers, and recreational drug use. Let's see that win a Pro Tour.

when I morph up the egotist I energy tap it to add 8 colorless mana to my pool which allows to either burn for serious damage with fireballs or draw lots of cards with braingyser. With the rushing for 8 cards I can usually end up drawing an energy tap.

I can see the logic in that, but it also means that you're depending on having three cards at once (Egotist/Tap/Fireball, Egotist/Tap/Rush - draw Fireball, Egotist/Fireball/Rush - draw Tap) or two cards (Egotist/Rush - draw Fireball and Tap). All of those yield superior results, but are also harder to get in your hand. I grant that decreasing the number of {R}{X} spells in the deck hurts those chances even further, but it also increases your chances of getting a two-card combo (Egotist/Torrent) that is automatically useful.

Also, I'd still like to hear your assessment of the mana situation.

As for the mana situation there's only one way to really see what happens and thats play testing it I'll definately play with it a bit and see what works best and get back to you on that. The Ingots I am seriously considering and adding torrent seems good but, the problem I've found with running them is  playing them early game without energy tapping is difficult.
