Whenever a player plays a spell, if that spell is a color Glass Golem isn't, put a spectrum counter on Glass Golem and Glass Golem becomes the colors of that spell in addition to its colors.
When Glass Golem is put into a graveyard from play, for each spectrum counter on it, you may add one mana of any color to your mana pool.

I know it's a lot of text, but the actual ability is pretty simple.

The idea is that this guy is made to charge off the whole range of magic. You play a red spell, he becomes red and gets a counter. You play Fires of Yavimaya, he becomes green also and gets a counter. You play Sliver Queen after that, he becomes all colors but only gets one counter (and then can't get any more).

This means he's suited for decks like the ones you play when you're first starting out: every color, just because you don't own sixty cards of any one color, but NOT for decks full of gold cards. I like this card because it rewards playing with multiple colors in a way we haven't often seen.

I would suggest solving the Skullclamp problem by making the mana ability
Sac this: Add one mana of any colour to your mana pool for each spectrum counter on this

Just sac it instead of letting it die if you want the mana but you can't get the mana and sac it to some other ability. The mana is no longer optional if you choose to sac it so you might take mana burn if you decided to sac it because you want to cast Balance etc...

Do Clamp decks often play many colors? Clamp is overpowered anyway.

I am not sure if this card is "worth" that much complexity.  I remember Garfield once saying that Trade Caravan was the worst card in Magic because it was so complex for such a meager ability.  I like the ability and all, but maybe the card needs to be a bit "splashier."  I know that the actual function of the card is simple, but all that text for what is really an attacking Jeweled Amulet seems a bit much.  Great concept, though.  And the name seems like something from a poem.

I could make the second ability:

When Glass Golem is every color, sacrifice it and add {B}{G} to your mana pool.

In fact, I think I will. Changes made.

Edit: wow, that cleaned this up a TON.

MUCH BETTER!  That is much simpler...I am always amazed at how simpler cards are more interesting.  

One more thing, what if you made this a "may" effect.  The card is a bit weak if the sacrifice is required.

How about:

When glass golem is every color it gains:
Sacrifice Glass golem: add {G}{U}{B} to your mana pool.

That would make it much more useful.

I dunno, I like the decision making that not being optional gives (if that sounds contradictiory, read this column and pay attention to the Mogg Fanatic part).

I read that column and I understand what MaRo is saying, but Fanatic is uninteresting because the ability is good and and instant.  This guy's ability is less powerful and more expensive, so the timing element that gives rise to all the complex decisions is still there.  As is it is too weak.

What about making it so that once it's every colour you gain WURBG whenever it dies, but you can't sac it?
