As promised... The rules for this competition will be: 5th/6th/Urza/Masques/Invasion Blocks. Banned list: Any cards not from 5th Edition, 6th Edition, Urza's Block, Masques Block, Invasion Block Duress Lingering Mirage Ostracize Phantasmal Terrain Raze Reef Shaman Rishadan Port Wheel of Torture NB this is subject to change within 24hrs of first posting.
What is 3cb?
3-Card Blind (3CB) is a very unique game. The rules are as follows
Your deck is composed of 3 cards, all of which start in your hand. You have no library (technically, the library exists, but starts at 0 cards) and no sideboard (Wishes fetch nothing). Random effects always go in your opponent's favour. You can see your opponent's hand, so you can always make the best possible play. You don't lose as a result of not being able to draw a card. You will play each opponent twice, once going first, once going second. For each win, you score 3. For each draw, you score 1. For each lose, you get nothing. Other than the aforementioned, EVERYTHING IS HANDLED EXACTLY LIKE A REAL GAME OF MAGIC! To make an entry, PM your deck to me in the following format: Subject: 3cb Tournament #31 Entry or 3cb Tournament#31 Revision Deck Name Card #1 Card #2 Card #3 Optional Deck discussion, random sucking up, etc. I will calculate the first 20 entrants who I receive, or I'll close entries after a week. Get your entries in by 6th May and I'll calculate. As I said, the banned list may change within 24 hours of this post going up. After that, it stays as it is. This is not a reason to withold your decks, though - this is not a particuarly serious format! If something's broke, please fix it whilst we can! Tom

Discussion of the banned list:
I have chosen the cards on there not necessarily because they are the most powerful cards there (with the exception of raze), but because they simply render several strategies unplayable. For example, the cards that change land types means no storage lands, whilst the targeted discard can hit anything. I am extremely open to suggestions as to how it should be changed, however. I have deliberately left some very good cards of old off there, because it's up to you to use them or beat them! Some old decks, such as field agents and academy researchers.dec are still there, ready and waiting. There's also the classic mise-prize deck in there, although I'm probably going to go with a more modern mise-dec.
Please post your thoughts in the next 24hrs if possible.

Isn't Rishadan Port ban-worthy? Can't use storage lands with Port around. Not good.

Yeah, I was about to ban that... Both you and Togran have thought of that, and I'm inclined to agree with you.
RISHADAN PORT IS NOW BANNED.

Banning Port only makes my deck that much stronger. I'm waiting until the 24 hours are up before sending it, because I don't want my tech card banned. Hint: Tsabo's Web > Masques' storage lands...but < FE storage lands!

This is true, but it won't beat any kind of fast deck such as field agents. Tsabo's Web is a handy card though, it must be said... Probably not ban-worthy, though, as it means that there are various cards that are not available to be used on your side of the table.

I didn't say my deck used Tsabo's Web. ;D What is a field agent? Another TMD user? It's not a card... EDIT: Oh, is it Sleeper Agent+Energy Field? I wonder what the mana source is, I can't think of any legal cards that can make both 1U and B. EDIT #2: Oh, nevermind, Sulfur Vent. EDIT #3: Heh, my deck 6-0s Field Agent

hmmmm..... I considered banning both the cards in your deck, but I thought that neither of them had any decent support cards. But... um... ouch. It's quite a nasty deck you've made yourself there.

I so far have a grand total of 5 decks (including my own). What happened to the sustained 10-15+ people in each tournament? If I still only have 5 this time tomorrow, I'll post again and decide whether the tournament is to go ahead or not.

I think the drop is because we hadn't had a tourney in such a long time. I will try to get a decklist in today.
Whatever you do - don't cancel 3cb!
EDIT: deck submitted.

So far, we have a quite astonishing 56% of decks going for the mise-prize... oh, and I turned away 1 mise-deck as it had an illegal card in it. Anyone mind if I change my deck, as I was one of the people going for the thing in the first place? If You don't think I should, then that's fine too. If there are any objections to this, then I won't change.
EDIT: If it makes the decision any easier, I told combo_dude which deck I would change to if there was any need for me to change (I always do this as a contingency, as it were). I would use that deck.

that could easily be seen as a rhetorical question but I'll answer anyway - the mise-prize (named after it's first winner, misemaster) is the deck entry that draws every game 2-2. The most famous example of this from 3cb of old is island-nether spirit-foil. Tom

We should have other prizes, too. Don't forget to do the "best name" poll, I think I have a shot at winning this time!

will do... well, what kind of other prizes are there avilable? There's scope for various wooden-spoon prizes (i.e. last place etc) and best name and other such things, but there's very little we can do to reward creativity. I spose there ought to be an unbeatable deck prize, too, if you can't get beaten by anything all tournament.
EDIT: Should a deck that 2-2 or 3-3s everything win the mise-prize? Or should it have it's own prize/not have any kind of award?
Other thoughts?

Well I'm playing to smash everyone's faces in! Most likely though I'll be on the receiving end of the smashing. It's quite a dificult format now as many people submit decks with diferent goals in mind. Some decks are oriented in winning by countering the best strategies where others just want to nullify everything. This makes an odd, fun and silly metagame. I am quite eager to see which deck randomly (or brokenly) takes the prize. Which prize am I talking about? Who knows!

I'm calculating this evening (i.e. about 6 hours' time). Only a small field, so once again, if you want to enter a second deck that's fine.
