Enchanted Paladin
1W
Creature – Knight Cleric
2/1
Opponents may not play spells with CMC equal to any enchantment enchanting ~this.

Though the battle was desperate, they could not bring themselves to strike someone so pure.

Otherworldly Eparch
1W
Creature – Spirit Cleric
2/2
Your opponents can't play spells with a converted mana cost equal to that of an enchantment enchanting Otherworldly Paladin.

Though the battle was desperate, they could not bring themselves to strike someone so pure.

// using some picture like that awesome one that Matt linked to

Changed to 2/2

Name and template change

It’s a powerful effect that plays up white’s affinity for enchantments, its affinity for top quality weenies, and its role as the rule making color. So its extremely in color and flavor. The powerful effect is balanced by the fact that its at least a two card combo before it even does anything and that it requires you to play with enchant  creatures which are bad cards.

Very cool card. Perhaps it could be even stronger? There's plenty of removal kicking around - maybe WW for a 2/2? I know it's not exactly unheard-of, white getting a 2/2 for WW, but never mind...

Glad to see that everyone likes this. I’m following combo dude’s suggestion and boosting toughness to 2. I think doing that doesn’t overpower it and makes it look more like a standard knight.

Wonderul design. Smile

In my opinion, a [Card]Knight Errant[/Card] with that kind of ability is quite reasonably balanced. There's however two things to improve:

A) Name - Merely stating what to do with that card for the best utility ("Enchanted") sounds a bit awkward to me. I'd suggest to take a step backward and think of what the impact of such a creature would be and by what means it is established. You might e.g. choose "Mesmeric" instead of enchanted as a willbending attribute.

B) The template seems a bit inaccurate. There's at least missing something like "that of" between "to" and "any," I believe. Also "may not play" as far as I know is only expressed as "can't play" (cf. [Card]Meddling Mage[/Card]). Lastly, it should probably say "your opponents". (That's a common clarification in modern card templating that answers a typical beginner question which nethertheless still turns up in Rules Question boards more often than it should.)

My take on the knight would be:

Mesmeric Paladin
1W
Creature – Knight Cleric
2/2
Your opponents can't play spells with a converted mana cost equal to that of an enchantment enchanting Mesmeric Knight.

With this name you have the additional benefit to not have triple "enchant" in "enchantment enchanting Enchanted Knight", which would really sound quite outch. :p

thanks.

Hmm, I hadn't though of the tripple enchant problem since in my head I use ~this when making cards. I think mesmeric is a bit off since in magic when people here that they think of mesmeric fiend, but a name change is in order.

I like the 'otherworldly' a lot better than the 'paladin'. Maybe change the noun? I think we overuse words like knight and paladin anyway.

hmm, how about partisan or champion. Champion maybe overused like knight, ect but it fits. Partisan is cool and military without being overdone, but someone might get it confused with the political meaning of partisan. Also, the adjective is also changeable. Anyone else have any name ideas?

Since we're going with the Roman army ranks, why not Tribune? Higher up than any of those three, and a guy with an ability like this needs some sort of status to have earnt this power.

*snap* That's the one I couldn't remember. It was on the tip of my tongue when I was listing those others and I just couldn't get it out.

It occurs to me: does this thing even have to be human? I mean since it's otherworldly and all. I see no reason that some planes couldn't be totally bereft of typical human life.

I've always really liked finding creatures in colors you wouldn't expect them to be. Elder Land Wurm and Osai Vultures and so on. This could be a spirit.

Hmm, spirits are cool, but clerics fit in with the flavor text and also are generally a good creature type to have. I’d like to keep cleric in there if possible.
I do like the idea of a sprit knight and if the inspiration strikes me I’ll be looking out for a card to put that on.

Yeah but I'm thinking some kind of nonhumanoid cleric. There's no reason you couldn't have a cleric that looked like this.

How about otherworldly eparch as a spirit cleric? Eparch is an uncommon cool word and is substituted for bishop in some eastern sections of the Catholic Church so it’s a high up title, but obscure enough that most people won't associate it with a particular religion.
