Ok, theres a tourney report in here, but thats not really the point. Mainly I just wanna spread the word about a Weekly Sanctioned Type 1 in Colorado.
Stonebridge Games 449 Main St Longmont, CO
Every Sunday at 1PM Cost - $5 Prizes - Booster packs
The stores only been open for about a month or two, and at the moment the tournament is reasonably the small. The store owner seems to be genuinely interested in growing the magic scene in the area so if you're in the Denver/Boulder area come on out.
Anyways, the report:
Round 1 - RandomGreen.dec Game 1 - Disk owns him Game 2 - Disk own him again
Round 2 - WW Game 1 - Disk owns him Game 2 - I get Empyrial Plate confused with Bonesplitter and let it resolve. He then kills me. Game 3 - Not sure what happened but I rolled him.
Round 3 - Fully powered 4c Hulk Game 1 - I waste his 1st land. I waste his 2nd land, he brainstorms in response. I FoW the Brainstorm, he Forces back. I ponder this for awhile and decide to just play balls out. So I Force back, pitching Force(#3). It was risky, but paid off. He didnt draw another land for ~7 turns while I sit with a factory and standstill in play. I win.
Game 2 - I drop a factory and standstill. He breaks Standstill to Twist me for 3. I draw from Standstill and my hand is 2x Maze of Ith, Tormods Crypt, MisD, Blue Card and Land. I MisD, but he REBs and Twists away everything but one Maze. I probably shouldnt have MisD'd to increase my chances of keeping more then 1 SB card, but oh well. He drops Tog and we sit in a stalemate for something like 10 turns. Unfortunately I see no Conclaves to fly over the toothed moat, and he eventually finds Fire/Ice and wins.
Game 3 - I fight an early counter-war over a Stifle on his turn 1 fetch. This was likely a mistake as I had LoA out and would probably have been better served to just let the LoA get active. He has 2 early REBs that ruin my plans and he wins a long match that wasnt really as close as it appeared.
Anyways, we only had 8 people, but its a good store with a good owner who really wants to get more magic people in there. So if you live around Denver/Boulder come on down and play some sanctioned T1.

Yes, that was a mistake on your part. Let them get their land, it's much more important to keep LoA active in that matchup then it is to try to stunt their mana growth turn 1 (hoping he doesn't have 2 or 3 more sources in his grip). Glad to see more area's trying to get more T1 players!

Yeah, my thinking at the time was that Tog could easily just overwhelm me before the LoA would have any real effect, and I think I was dwelling on the Game 1 victory purely due to the manascrew--confusing blind luck with good strategy.
Had I played this matchup more(read as, more than once previous to this) I think I probably could have pulled out one of the two games, but I just dont have the patience to playtest landstill extensively.

Someone on Starcity wrote about conducting tournies for type 1. Smnenen?
In addition to the weekly type 1 tournament for booster packs, start up a BIG type 1 tournament for power monthly or bimonthly.
This will increase your chances of seeing new people in the store for the weekly tournies,
And if I were in Denver, I would be there every single week. But I'm in Central PA, where type 1 = DEAD.

Mind Twist can be Misdirected because it says "Target Player" and not "Target Opponent".

Could you post a decklist? In my opinion Tournament reports are really pointless without a decklist.
