37 people or so.
Joe Bushman won with Tog. Ben Kowal got 2nd with 4c Control Matt Smith got 3rd with 4c Control I can't remember who got 4th, Chad someone got 5th with Suicide Black. I got 6th with Tog (I conceded to Joe in the last round).
Carl Winter played draw7 and dropped. Cha1n5 and Rich Shay played as well. ALl meandeck and a bunch of other people lost a game in round one for not hearing the round starting announcement (long story) and Rich lost a game becuase of it and lost to sligh in one game match - then lost to Tog later and dropped. Carl made some play errors with D7 and dropped.
All in all a crazy ass tournament with lots of very bad decks, and a TON of Germbus doing VERY well. This was the highest concentration of good t1 players at an Origins though. 5 Meandeckers in the tournament.
I met Klep and Windfall among others - very cool. The tournament ended at 2AM. I need to go to bed to get up for the 9AM tommorrow.
Later,
Stephen Menendian

MMmmm.... Ramen @ 3:20 am I lost to BUSH MAN in round 1 (so savage) and proceeded to play against: 2) Sligh 3) UGR Madness 4) TNT 5) UR Control 6) Tog in other words... my highly metagames SB was utter poo and I was completely out of my element playing against matchups I've tried to forget about. I sucked. 2-4. Tomorrow I will exact my revenge et Terra. Here's hoping PTW and SliverKing make it for Saturday! Oh, and cool to meet various Drainers... I'll see you guys tomorrow! [Gawd, I'm sooo glad I'm on BUSH MAN's team... I'm looking skilled by association.]

4cc is becoming the deck to watch in Canada as well. I was surprised to see Dicemanx play it the last Toronto toiurnament as he never played Keeper. He won. Landstill and control were everywhere with combo feeling a little lonesome now that everyone plays FoWs and Rods. But how did Sui black take fifth? Suyi has not done anything here for a year.

So I take it this was all swiss with no t8? I believe the Origins tourneys (like the non-championship or $250 Gencon tourneys) have always been swiss only.

I was 4-0 going in to round five when I got paired with Bushman. When he had something like 7 life left, I had two angels on the board just waiting to kill him. Apparently he brainstormed in to Sol Ring, Black Lotus, Yawgmoth's Will, the only combination of things that would have won him that game. That sucked. If I hadn't made a play error earlier though, he never even would have had the chance. Frown. I finish 5-1 on the day, beating Matt C Smith in the final round.
Round one - FCG Round two - Hulk Round three - Shop Slaver Round four - 4cControl Round five - Bushman with Tog Round six - 4cControl
This means only one thing. Bushman, I'm coming for you next. Vengeance will be mine.

Heh- sucks to lose to Ben. Not only is he Ben Kowal, but he probably had to register for a DCI card on site. Hope you guys didn't care about your ratings
Congrats Ben- but why are you online and not in another tournament??

Well, I was supposed to be at the 9 o'clock to keep CH4IN5 from taking it, but I woke up a little too late. By a little too late, I mean I think I won't actually arrive on site until the final round begins. It's all good though, I needed a free morning to check out the artists and vendor booths.
Apparently Hi-Val went 1-2 drop this morning, but his Team Mercy boys are doing well. I don't know how CH4IN5 is doing, but it didn't sound like he was in the top group. Kerz got madpwned playing rOSE.
(I should mention for Kerz's sake that today was supposed to be silly deck day. I had Fro put together, Smmenen was going to run MonoU with Prohibit, et cetera. Most of us overslept though, so I think it'd be a good idea if we move this event to Sunday or set up our own event or something.)

The $250 tournament had a top 8 (and an actual prize I might add)

The $250 tournament had a top 8 (and an actual prize I might add) right, I forgot the second "non".. it should have read "non-championship non-$250" ...Smmenen was going to run MonoU with Prohibit, et cetera... gawd...everyone knows Arcane Denail is the third best counterspell....

Yeah, the Gay Men weren't with me today, but all the other Team Mercy guys were doing really well, so I am still happy. Origins is a blast.
I'm looking forward to kicking ass with D4RG0N some time this weekend and dropping some Type 4 love.

Battle of Witts!? I haven't seen that played for over a year. Is someone really going to play BoW? That'd rock the house. It's good to see 4cc doing well. I love this deck. Any chance we could get some decklists from Orgins?

ALl meandeck and a bunch of other people lost a game in round one for not hearing the round starting announcement (long story) and Rich lost a game becuase of it and lost to sligh in one game match - then lost to Tog later and dropped. I might as well finish this story. We were all sitting at a table rather close to the Wizards pavillion, where they had speakers set up for announcing shit. The fact that pairings were up was allegedly announced 3 times, but due to the orientation of the speakers and the fact that the announcer didn't grasp the fact that you still have to speak up into a microphone, just about all the TMD-ers missed it and were awarded game losses. Only a couple were able to successfully appeal. It was total bullshit, particularly since they were already about 20 minutes late getting it started in the first place.

On a side note, if you wished to purchase power from a dealer's table you might want to invest in sleeveless shirts and a pair of shorts, as you wont need that arm or leg anymore. I recall the lowest Lotus going for something like 850, with the most expensive easily going at $1500. (I'm sure prices were different, as I saw some stuff priced at $2100 for a single power card).
The moral? Buy your power early! Don't expect to top off that deck, unless you're willing to shell out some dough, or get real lucky and manage to trade for it.
Overall, I had a good time. I only played 2 events, one with my pet deck and the other with Zherb's pet deck. I'm looking forward to Gencon, the meta should be different, although I'll probably only play in the championships. (Marvel has an intriguing game that pays a $250k purse at Gencon, with a million dollar pro tour).
Until then, someone make me a good deck so I don't have to, and look for me at Gencon, I'm selling my Lotus, and it will be much less than $850!
(Oh yeah, after talking with Pete, Starcity said they may not be doing coverage of the championships this year, as last year was a pain in the rear. I told him I would help with coverage, but if the T1 community that isn't present want's to hear, I'm sure he needs more help. Send him an e-mail if you're going and want to help, or at least one to let him know that you appreciated the coverage of last year.)
