No bribery should ever be legal. Period. It distorts the tournament's results, and every concession has negative implications for another player that is not directly involved. If you would be knocked out by a concession w/ prize split, and you'd know it before, would you not offer the conceding player a better prize so that he plays it out? And is that bribery if the first prize split offer was not?

I can live with prize splits. I can live with ID'ing. I can also live with concessions for personal reasons. But I don't accept any concessions with prizes implied. If I concede to someone, I do it because I have to leave the venue now, or I like him, or he's on my team and I am 2-4 already, or she's just damn good looking and has promised me a date (ok, that's bribery, but hey -- a date is a date!).

But even if I concede to a teammate, I feel wrong, because I could have won. Any concession distorts a tournament's result. It might very well be me who denies another amiable player (who played every round) his T8 slot, just because I didn't play. If that'd happen to me, I'd feel treated unfair, so I should not make it happen to someone else.

Of course, if I go to a tournament, I know this is going to happen. It is part of the tournament scene. Just remember that when you do it, you are not the only one affected. No one has a natural right to make T8, so never think you HAVE to concede, even if you think you will get a reward afterwards.

Jacob's example is perfect for how it should go, if it happens.

If I saw a girl work her way through two concessions by implying or asking dates, at REL 3+ I'd give her a Match Loss for Misrepresentation of Boobies.

To me the entire debate really comes down to DCI Rating.  If the DCI Rating is going to change (Whether it be a concession, an ID or even a played match) I don't want to hear ANY talk of money exchange or prize splitting, except for 50/50 splits and only under extreme circumstances.

Notice the caveat there: it's entirely possible in the finals to do this, if the match ISN'T PLAYED.  That means one person drops, and the other person "wins" the tournament by default.  No rating points change.

It's important to remember that in an ID or normal draw, points do change.  A 1600 IDing with a 2000 is going to gain some points, for sure.

Of course, if your tournaments aren't sanctioned, do whatever the Hell makes life easier.  "Concede to you for a ride home" is fine. :P
