Okay, so I have not seen a real Magic deck in months at this point and TMD is my only connection to Magic at all right now. But in posting today JACO laid out the following challenge: I'm actually in the process of creating Foil Asian Alpha/Beta/OOP cards myself with a very high quality printing scheme. But cards that you can't use in tournaments aren't very pimp to me at all, and that's why having excess Power and irrelevant cards like Splendid Genesis doesn't seem very pimp to me. It's about QUALITY, not QUANTITY. I'm about pimping cards you can actually use in decks, and I don't know anybody that match me there...not even Jeff. Team ECB seems very confident, so I implore you, request a deck type and I will post my version in the Pimped Out Deck thread in Community/Rumors, and we'll see whose really got the flyest l00ts. Madness, Dragon, Drain-Slaver, Workshop-Slaver, TriniStax/WelderMUD, TnT, Vengeur-Masque, 4cControl, Scepter-Control, Hulk, GroATog, TPS, Rector-Trix, FCG, 7/10 Split, URFish, EBA, B/G Void, Academy, Pandeburst, Landstill, etc.; you name it, I can pimp it baby. Hell, even my Highlander deck would out-pimp Jeff's.
Jeff (Samite Healer) is a good friend of mine (sorry I have been so out of touch), but I did my best to defend his collection. I have sent it and it is the Magic equivalent of the El Dorado, the Seven Cities of Gold. I know we had this thread open before, but lets see if we can put some criteria on the table. I would like to propose a pimp battle. Anyone can join (not me though I have like no pimp cards). Here are the tests: Pimp test one: Build in theory the following decks as pimped as possible: Belcher Keeper Workshop Slaver Venguer Masks as found here: http://www.starcitygames.com/php/news/expandnews.php?Article=6182Pimp test two: Full set of Alpha/Beta Power as pimp as possible (defined, in my mind at least, as Alpha double signed by artist and Garfield in gold or silver) Pimp test three: As many of the following: Blue Hurricane Garfield cards (Proposal, Splendid Genesis....) Mox Crystal Pimp test four: Pimp test one with as many decks as possible built at the same time. I am open to suggestions for other pimp tests, I just thought of these off the top of my head, and I sure that the collectors out there have other more esoteric ideas than I do. I think those are pretty high standards to meet. If anyone can decisively do all of those, I think they would be the undisputed winner. I don't think that is possible, but I am pretty sure that Jeff can make a pretty good run at some of those. Also I am assuming the following: Alpha>Beta>Unlimited for Power Alpha>Beta>FBB for duals Guru>APAC for land BB>WB for general cards Foil>Non-foil (duh) Simplified Chinese>Korean>Chinese>Japanese>German>Romance Languages>English for general cards Alternate Art>Regular are for general cards Double Signed (Garfield/Artist)>Double Signed (Creator or Star/Artist)>Signed (Artist or Star) for general cards (Altered equals Signature, thus alter and signed is better than signed). Gold>Silver>Black for general signed cards If these assumptions are not correct, let me know. And let the battle begin. EDIT: Addition of artist alteration to pimpness ranks

Sorry guys, but Jeff's misprint foil MM counterspell that, thanks to an offset border, costs only U, out-pwns anything you can come up with. His Highlander is the pimpiest I have ever seen. I challenge anyone to take his list and try to outpimp the cards he has in there.

oh shit it's on!!!1!!
I was told one thing, however, that getting Moxes and Power signed actually decreases the value of said card (I ask because KandyKid said that's why he doesn't want to get any of his power signed, even when presented with the opportunity). Is this strictly some west-coast mentality thing, or does it hold true for other people?
EDIT: While this may not count for much, I believe I own the most pimped out Goblin Tokens in the world. I altered them myself, showed them to Pete Venters @ PT Seattle, and he gave them the "Pete Venters seal of approval". I'll scan them sometime.
ANOTHER EDIT: Seriously, re-title this thread "When Titans Collide" or something along the lines of that.

These expert "pimpologists" should discuss the best non-obvious ways to pimp out cards, like which langauge foils are best, what are the best alterations to specific cards, and which signatures are better. Interesting or not?

It's right there under "Romance languages". Italian is a Romance language (descended from Latin [Rome=>Romance]) along with Spanish, Portuegese, French, and Romanian. Probably at least one more.

Pimp test two: Full set of Alpha/Beta Power as pimp as possible (defined, in my mind at least, as Alpha double signed by artist and Garfield in gold or silver) All of my Power is indeed Alpha/Beta; the Moxes are signed by Dan Frazier, the Ancestral Recall is Signed and altered by Mark Poole, and the Time Walk and Black Lotus are both CRIMPED Beta. I plan on getting it all signed by Richard Garfield at the next GenCon I attend, or SD ComicCon if he makes an appearance. Pimp test three: As many of the following: Blue Hurricane Garfield cards (Proposal, Splendid Genesis....) Mox Crystal
Pimp test four: Pimp test one with as many decks as possible built at the same time. To this I have already made my sentiments known ...cards that you can't use in tournaments aren't very pimp to me at all, and that's why having excess Power and irrelevant cards like Splendid Genesis doesn't seem very pimp to me. It's about QUALITY, not QUANTITY. I'm about pimping cards you can actually use in decks... Having excess of the same restricted card(s) that you can't use more than one of doesn't make you pimp (which I am), it just makes you a dealer or collector (which I am not). Also I am assuming the following: Alpha>Beta>Unlimited for Power Alpha>Beta>FBB for duals Guru>APAC for land Simplified Chinese>Korean>Chinese>Japanese>German>Romance Languages>English I don't necessarily agree with your order of some of these things; more so the languages than anything else. Asian varieties are highly subjective to personal taste, as are lands and Alpha/Beta for that matter. I must say that I am not the big fan of Guru lands that most people are. As a small note to anybody paying close attention to my lists, S. Chinese and T. Chinese are both just denoted as Chinese, because I don't really care to remember exactly WTF they are; just that they're pimp. It should be noted that the metal Fork is a trump card in this battle, as it is the single most awesome card ever made. Matt, are you sure your name isn't Timmy? Who the hell uses Fork, except to eat with?! I'm at work, so I'll post the last Belcher list I played as a sample to whet your appetitties... 2-Land Belcher, UPDATED 09-02-2004 for more pimpness Business Spells (26) 1 Demonic Tutor (Beta, signed by Doug Schuler; signed by Richard Garfield) 1 Vampiric Tutor (DCI Foil, signed by Richard Garfield) 1 Tinker (Japanese Foil; signed by Richard Garfield) 1 Spoils of the Vault (Japanese Foil) 1 Demonic Consultaion (German, signed by Rob Alexander) 2 Living Wish (Japanese Foil) 1 Ancestral Recall (Beta, signed & altered by Mark Poole; signed by Richard Garfield) 2 Brainstorm (Japanese Foil, signed by T.DiTerlizzi) 1 Windfall (Japanese) 1 Timetwister (Beta, crimped) 1 Memory Jar (Japanese Foil, signed by Donato Giancola) 1 Wheel of Fortune (Beta, signed by Daniel Gelon) 1 Necropotence (DCI Foil, signed by Mark Tedin) 1 Yawgmoth's Will (Japanese, signed by Richard Garfield) 3 Goblin Welder (Japanese Foil, signed & customized by Scott Fischer; signed by Richard Garfield) 3 Duress (DCI Saga Foil) 4 Goblin Charbelcher (Japanese Foil) 1 Tendrils of Agony (Chinese Foil)
Mana Sources (33) 4 Dark Ritual (Japanese Foil, signed by Rebecca Guay) 4 Tinder Wall (FBB) 4 Elvish Spirit Guide (German and/or Italian) 4 Land Grant (Japanese Foil, signed by D. Alexander Gregory) 1 Mana Crypt (FBB Portugese; signed by Richard Garfield) 1 Sol Ring (Beta, signed by Mark Tedin; signed by Richard Garfield) 1 Mana Vault (Beta, crimped) 5 Moxen (Alpha & Beta, signed by Dan Frazier; signed by Richard Garfield, some crimped) 1 Lotus Petal (Japanese, signed by April Lee) 1 Black Lotus (Beta, CRIMPED, signed & customized by Chris Rush; signed by Richard Garfield) 1 Bayou (Beta) 1 Tropical Island (Beta) 1 Lion's Eye Diamond (Japanese) 1 Channel (Beta; signed & customized by Richard Garfield) 3 Chromatic Sphere (Japanese Foil Invasion)
Sideboard (15) 3 Oxidize (Chinese Foil) ***Living Wishable Targets*** 1 Mishra's Workshop (signed by Richard Garfield) 1 Tolarian Academy (Japanese) 1 Ancient Tomb (Japanese) 1 Gemstone Mine (Japanese, signed by Brom) 1 Viridian Shaman (Japanese Foil)) 1 Goblin Welder (Japanese Foil, signed & customized by Scott Fischer; signed by Richard Garfield) 1 Elvish Lyrist (DCI Foil, signed by Rebecca Guay) 3 Xantid Swarm (Chinese Foil) 2 Phyrexian Negator (Foil) Bring it...

Matt, are you sure your name isn't Timmy? Who the hell uses Fork, except to eat with?! If it's use you're going for, why are you even bothering to pimp your card at all? Pimpness has nothing to do with use, and never has. This applies not solely to ridiculous little pieces of cardboard, but to all things pimp. You think a gem-encrusted walking stick comes in handy? HELL NO. At least no more than any old walking stick. Pimpness is ostentatious. It is about flaunting it. It is about the way things look, and what those looks represent; not what they're good for.

Can Metal Fork really beat Jeff's Counterspell that costs U? And it is promo. Well of course it can, I mean really... You can like flip it with your wrist and cut peoples heads off and stuff. You'd have to be a ninja or something to do that with some silly foil counterspell. I mean like, you can cast it, and say stuff like, "Hey man, this says I win." "No it doesn't!", they'd reply. *flick* "That's gonna sting." *opponents head rolls around on the floor* See, now wasn't that more fun? How can you beat that? EDIT: If you need a 'sheath' instead of a sleeve to play a card, you are already maxxing out the pimp scale... I mean really, what self-respecting pimp doesn't have a blade to 'cut you' with. How are you gonna get those bitches to give you your money without a pimp-blade?!?

Thanks for the info, but how the hell are you going to flaunt a Splendid Genesis or Metal Fork if you don't use it in a deck? Maybe you can bring a salad to your matches and then really flaunt your Magic collection by eating the salad with a 'Metal Fork' that looks like a Magic card, rather than the kind the rest of Western civilization uses. Or maybe if you tape enough of those special cards you'll never use to your package, you can weigh your penis down enough to literally make it bigger by stretching it.

I have been PM'ed a request. Here it is: As I sort of hinted at in the pimpest lands thread in Basic Usar, I've been setting up a site for people to display their pimped out decks... Getting people to agree on a definite order of pimpitude (like you've laid out) would be a big help! I can't tell them so, but maybe you could egg them on? I'd appreciate it... Is there any way TMD's resident Doctors of Pimpology help this gentleman out. I tried to lay out a basic scheme. Maybe people can make suggested changes to that scheme.

I think in order of pimpness at the low end it should be Non Italian romance > English > Italian.
Italian mana drains are very unpimp and drag down the whole language.

EDIT: Updated l00ts included in decklist 01-23-2006 Even though I think the version of Workshop Slaver linked on StarCity sucks a common monkey's wang (no offense to the builder, Matthew Jendro), and I would never use it, I'll play along with your little game, and I'll post how mine would visually look if I ever played such a god-awful deck... 1 Triskelion (Japanese Foil) 2 Pentavus (Japanese Foil) 1 Sundering Titan (Japanese Foil) 4 Goblin Welder (Japanese Foil, signed & customized by Scott Fischer; signed by Richard Garfield) 4 Thirst for Knowledge (Japanese Foil, signed by Ben Thompson) 3 Brainstorm (Japanese Foil, signed by T.DiTerlizzi) 2 Cunning Wish (Japanese Foil) 1 Tinker (Japanese Foil; signed by Richard Garfield) 4 Force of Will (Signed & customized by T. Nielsen) 1 Mystical Tutor (Japanese; signed by Richard Garfield) 1 Time Walk (Beta, CRIMPED; signed by Richard Garfield) 3 Fire/Ice (Japanese Foil, signed by Franz) 1 Ancestral Recall (Beta, signed & customized by Mark Poole; signed by Richard Garfield) 2 Mindslaver (Chinese Foil) 3 Chalice of the Void (Japanese Foil, signed by Mark Zug) 1 Memory Jar (Japanese Foil, signed by Donato Giancolo) 3 Gilded Lotus (Japanese Foil) 1 Tolarian Academy (Japanese) 4 Mishra's Workshop (signed by Richard Garfield) 4 Volcanic Island (Beta) 1 Island (Misprint DCI Saga Foil, signed by Donato Giancolo) 3 Shivan Reef (Asian Foil, signed by Rob Alexander) 1 Polluted Delta (Japanese Foil, signed by Rob Alexander) 1 Sol Ring (Beta, signed by Mark Tedin; signed by Richard Garfield) 1 Black Lotus (Beta, crimped, signed & customized by Chris Rush; signed by Richard Garfield) 1 Mana Crypt (Portugese FBB; signed by Richard Garfield) 1 Mox Emerald (Beta, crimped) 1 Mox Ruby (Beta, signed by Dan Frazier; signed by Richard Garfield) 1 Mox Pearl (Alpha, signed by Dan Frazier; signed by Richard Garfield) 1 Mox Jet (Beta, crimped) 1 Mox Sapphire (Alpha, signed by Dan Frazier; signed by Richard Garfield) 1 Mana Vault (Beta, crimped) Sideboard: 4 Trinisphere (Japanese Foil) 1 Bosh, Iron Golem (Japanese Foil) 2 Triskelion (Japanese Foil) 2 Rack and Ruin (Japanese Foil, signed by Donato Giancolo) 2 Red Elemental Blast (Beta) 2 Blue Elemental Blast (Beta) 1 Chain of Vapor (Japanese Foil) 1 Stroke of Genius (DCI Foil, miscut)
By the way, who the hell plays Workshop Slaver with Cunning Wish for Stroke of Genius? That list is ridiculous. Speaking of ridiculous, it's only round 2, and it looks like JACO is going to score the knockout...

Yeah, kinda like in Troy (awful movie...but) when the Achaens volunteered Achilles to fight Nathan Jones' character.
NOTE: That is the first, and probably last time that Jeff will be mistaken for Brad Pitt.
@JACO: I want to see a picture of a CRIMPED Beta Walk. That sounds so kickass. I did not know they made errors like that on older cards.
Question to the community: Are crimped cards errors that are more valuable or just unmint cards?

Well personally, I prefer them uncrimped but I'm a player not a collector.

Pimp test one:
Build in theory the following decks as pimped as possible:
Belcher 4cControl Workshop Slaver Venguer Masks
Everything english blackborderd with oldest possible sets. Full Alpha Power (Lotus signed) Guru and Euro and Apacs Pimp test two:
Full set of Alpha/Beta Power as pimp as possible (defined, in my mind at least, as Alpha double signed by artist and Garfield in gold or silver)
I have with the exception of Baron Snegir and Phyrexian Processor (haven't broken down to get them yet) at least 1 of every Type 1 legal limited set besides Beta. Full Alpha and many many playsets of cards. I can probablly build any deck on that Star City list and have it be English Black Bordered. That's pimp enough for me. I also have: 2 Full Guru sets and 1 extra forest 1 Euro set with signed Holland Plains 3 Apac sets 1 Set of Ed Beard lands signed -Keith

Alpha Underground Sea = $200 Alpha Black Lotus = $1000 Knowing that I can build almost any deck in T1 and have it be black bordered. = Priceless

What is 'crimping'? Crimping happens when a card gets caught in the machine that seals the packs. Basically, the crimped card will have a set of ridges across the top or bottom from where the pack was stamped shut. That said, Jeff apparantly has a Time Walk that's crimped along the side. Go Figure.

@JACO: Â I want to see a picture of a CRIMPED Beta Walk. Â That sounds so kickass. Â I did not know they made errors like that on older cards. Â
Question to the community: Are crimped cards errors that are more valuable or just unmint cards? When my computer's motherboard gets fixed, I'll try to get a couple scans or pics up. I value them about the same as normal cards, and paid less than market value for them actually. Well personally, I prefer them uncrimped but I'm a player not a collector. I'm not a collector, I just pimp a lot. Crimped, customized, or anything different is what makes them cooler to me. I don't let my cards sit in a binder; I play with them. Continuing the trend of global domination, here's another snippet for the battle. Hulk Smash, by Bjorn Ortmann 2nd place, 2004-06-06 Dulmen JACOfied (not that I would play this version, but this is what is posted on SCG) 3 Psychatog (Japanese Foil, signed & customized by Crazy Carl Winters) 1 Gorilla Shaman (German, signed & altered by Anthony S. Waters) 1 Demonic Tutor (Beta, signed by Douglas Shuler and Richard Garfield) 2 Duress (DCI Foil) 1 Mind Twist (Alpha, signed & altered by Richard Garfield) 1 Yawgmoth's Will (Japanese, signed by Richard Garfield) 4 Accumulated Knowledge (Japanese Foil, signed by Randy Gallegos, signed by Richard Garfield) 1 Ancestral Recall (Beta, signed & altered by Mark Poole, signed by Richard Garfield) 4 Brainstorm (Japanese Foil, signed by T. DiTerlizzi) 3 Cunning Wish (Japanese Foil) 2 Deep Analysis (Japanese Foil, signed by Darren Bader) 4 Force of Will (Signed & customized by T. Nielsen) 3 Intuition (Japanese, signed & customized by April Lee) 4 Mana Drain (signed by Richard Garfield) 1 Time Walk (Beta, crimped, signed by Richard Garfield) 1 Pernicious Deed (Japanese Foil, signed by Christopher Moeller) 1 Black Lotus (Beta, crimped, signed & customized by Chris Rush; signed by Richard Garfield) 1 Mox Emerald (Beta, crimped) 1 Mox Jet (Beta, crimped) 1 Mox Pearl (Alpha signed by Dan Frazier; signed by Richard Garfield) 1 Mox Ruby (Beta signed by Dan Frazier; signed by Richard Garfield) 1 Mox Sapphire (Alpha signed by Dan Frazier; signed by Richard Garfield) 1 Sol Ring (Beta signed by Mark Tedin; signed by Richard Garfield) 1 Library of Alexandria (mad miscut, Signed & altered by Mark Poole) 1 Flooded Strand (Chinese Foil signed by Rob Alexander) 4 Polluted Delta (Foil, 3 Asian 1 English, all signed by Rob Alexander) 2 Tropical Island (Beta) 4 Underground Sea (1 Alpha, 3 Beta, all signed by Rob Alexander) 3 Volcanic Island (Beta) 2 Island (DCI Saga Foil Misprint signed by Donato Giancola)
sideboard 1 Artifact Mutation (Japanese Foil) 1 Berserk (Beta, crimped; signed & altered by Richard Garfield) 1 Blue Elemental Blast (Beta) 2 Deep Analysis (Japanese Foil, signed by Darren Bader) 1 Diabolic Edict (DCI Foil) 1 Fact or Fiction (Japanese Foil signed by T.
