Hi, I'm trying to make a somewhat fast combo like deck, that uses door to nothingness for the win.

I realise that speed is difficult due to the insane cost (5 to play tapped, double WUBRG to use), however the deck is merely for casual play, thus shouldn't need to race i.e. dragon.

I have the cash for the fundamental cards (duals, FoW, etc.), but not Mana drain, bazaar etc. and no P9 neither Very Happy

The current decklist I run is this:

Win (4)
4 Door to Nothingness

Tutor (5)
1 Demonic Consultation
1 Demonic Tutor
1 Vampiric Tutor
2 Spoils of the Vault

Mana Acceleration (31)
1 Fastbond
1 Mana Crypt
1 Mox Diamond - unsure on this one
1 Mana Vault
1 Grim Monolith
2 Talisman of Unity - Unsure on this one
4 BoP
4 Utopia Tree
4 Dark Ritual
4 Doubling Cube
4 Channel the Suns
4 Squandered Ressources

Lands (20)
4 Thran Quarry
4 City of Brass
4 Gemstone Mine - unsure on this one
4 Bayou
4 Llanowar Wastes

I run 4 doors for spoils / consultation to be somewhat safe.
I ran necropotence once, but I died too often to it.
The deck has no disruption, which I really feel is missing. Room for 4 Duress and 4 Xantid Swarm would be nice, however I cannot see what to cut without making the deck much slower. (It currently wins around turn 6-7 consistently)
Oh and btw. I realise that a mere null rod destroys my win condition, but green has excellent solutions to this problem, which can be sideboarded. This reminds me that I thought about adding blue for cunning wish and some draw spells, yet again I cannot see what to cut.

Oh and finally I was considering Diabolic Intent as a tutor, but that would kill my mana creatures, so I'm quite unsure whether it's worth testing ?

Try replacing the Utipia Trees with Joiner Adepts (or go 2 and 2 or something).

Then, you can play with Fabricate/Tinker for Door easily. (No risky Spoils and stuff.  It's not like you are Spoiling for something you want to cast THAT turn.)

And unless I'm missing something, Fastbond is worthless in your deck. Replace it with Eternal Warrior (or whatever that Regrowth guy is).

Just some thoughts!

I don't feel well about joiner adept, since most of my lands are all colored anyway, however if I am to splash blue it might be a good idea. Also I like the thought about tinkerer/fabricate, as spoils is quite dangerous. As for the regrowth guy, why don't I just run regrowth ? (I mean why do you consider the creature version better ?)

OMG, a deck with 4x door to nothingness, 2x spoils of the vault and 4x doubling cube ! The signal-to-noise ratio is insanely low here ! If you're unsure about which card could help, I recommend you take a look at the list I posted here http://www.themanadrain.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=18235. Seriously, door to nothingness is such a bad card it's not even funny. battle of wits looks good in comparison.

Your deck doesn't have any disruption at all. Such a deck is garanteed to be run over by anything remotely competitve due to that alone. Plus, you're trying to turn this into some sort of combo-deck, but you can't kill within the first 2 turns (no disruption could be acceptable if the kill was generally <= turn 2). Worse still, after game one, all your opponen has to do is force of will your door to nothingness and you can scoop. Seriously, this should get locked asap.

Why should it be locked ?
With Xantid Swarm I can ensure that Door doesn't get FoW'ed, so that's one less problem (SB).

And while door to nothingness is somewhat bad, it's imho quite fun. Also I'm not going to take the deck to a competetion so it will only meet rogue decks, which means it doesn't have to win by turn 2.

As for the stuff about signal-to-noise ratio, I'd like you to explain just what you mean ? (Because I didn't get it)

I don't say it should be locked, but moved to the casual section, well, yes  Wink

Hi again, sry for posting it in the wrong forum :/

As for the deck, I've gotten it down to turn 5,33 on average with this list:

// Win (4):
4 Door to nothingness

// Spells (12):
4 Channel the Suns
4 Squandered Resources
4 Doubling Cube

// Tutors (7):
1 Demonic Tutor
1 Vampiric Tutor
1 Demonic Consultation
2 Spoils of the Vault
1 Tinker
1 Enlightened Tutor

// Mana Acceleration (15):
4 Birds of Paradise
2 Utopia Tree
1 Mox Diamond
4 Dark Ritual
1 Lotus Petal
1 Sol Ring
1 Mana Crypt
1 Grim Monolith
1 Mana Vault
1 Lion's Eye Diamond

// Lands (20):
4 City of Brass
4 Gemstone Mine
4 Glimmervoid
4 Bayou
4 Thran Quarry

Tinker is a huge boost, as is LED.

I was working on a different door deck

First of all let me say something. Door to Nothingness .. SUCKS!
its the most terrible of winning conditions
mountain goat is strictly better

if you allow me ill share my ideas with you and maybe we can both benefit from our mutual wisdom ( or lack thereof ).

Door.dec

Lands:

1 Tolarian Academy
4 Taiga
4 Volcanic Island
4 Tropical Island
3 Ancient Tomb
3 Crystal Quarry
2 City of Brass

Broken Stuff:

1 Tinker
1 Mana Crypt
1 Stroke of Genius
1 Wheel of Fortune
1 Braingeyser
1 Time Spiral
1 Mox Diamond
1 Voltaic Key
1 Grim Monolith
1 Mana Vault
1 Sol Ring
1 Crop Rotation
1 Fact or Fiction

The Engine:
4 Mirari
4 Helm of Awakening
4 Mana Flare
4 Channel the Suns
4 Fellwar Stone
4 Seething Song
2 Door to Nothingness

I figure mirari is a better doubling cube as it can copy the broken instants and sorceries ( im not 100% sure it works on x spells correctly, but i suspect it does , could be wrong though ). even still it is there mainly to double the Seething Song and Channel the Suns. The helms make everything cheaper ( making seething song into a super dark ritual ) and the mana flares help me get the horrible amounts of mana required to activate the door.

but the deck sucks as that terrible terrible terrible terrible door is impossible to activate until there are 10 pieces or so ( ok im exaggerating here but it really needs too many correct cards in play/hand to work).

mindslaver is just so much better ..sigh Sad

MY Door to Nothingness uses 4 Pentad Prisms and 4 Energy Chambers at 4 Fabricate and 3 Bringer of the Black Dawn. (To get needed combo peices). Granted, my deck is a block deck, unworthy of full explanation here, but the Prisms with Chamber backup can get you closer to the needed mana, or at least fuel the playing of earlier key parts.

Come on, it's casual, right?

(Edit: My deck also uses 4 Veldaken Engineers.  For 1U, they provide two mana of one color for artifacts only.  There are lots and lots of artifacts that love colored mana this way.)
