http://www.yellowroseinn.com/ballroom.htmlThat's our room. We get the hotel deck all to ourselves, and it's a freaking badass room. Who cares that it's a bed and breakfast suite? Edit- Now, where the ballroom suite says $250 a night, what it actually means to say is $150 a night, cause that's what we got it for...

Holy Shit, awesome.
PTW and I discussed the possibility of hiring some strippers if all the clubs are 21+, I can totally picture them up on that pool table.

If anyone wants me to organize a hold em tournament, you guys seem to have the room for it!
I'll have my cards and tournament-quality chips in the car.

Yes, I'm down for the holdem tournament.
Also, partying is good too.

Well, if you want to do a few of with a more fun atmosphere, $5. If you want to get down and dirty, we can go $10-20.
Thats my opinion, anyway.

it really depends on how many people there are how long we want it to go (i.e. how fast the blinds go up), and how serious people are about it. If we get like 10-15 people, what we usually do is 3rd place gets their money back and 1st and 2nd split it some where around 70-30 or 60-40. Then again, we usually have $50 or $100 buy-ins.
Frankly, whatever the most amount of people want to do, is what we'll probably do....
PS anyone living in/near chicago, we're having a $50 buy-in home tournament thursday 8/26 in the south loop. We've got around 20 so far. PM me if interested.
wrt hold em vs other games (omaha, 7card stud, 8/better games, draw, razz, triple draw), the skill differential really plays a huge part, so much so that bad players go broke so fast, there aren't enough of them to feed the higher level games. Hold em is a game of pushing small edges over long time periods. This is why hold em is so popular, because an ok-ish hold em player will lose their money much slower than an ok-ish 7stud or omaha player. The game just gives bad players (consistent losers) a chance to move to ok-ish players (slight losers) before busting out.
This is the reason why Razz and 5card draw are all but extinct - the pros destroyed the players because a bad Razz player has ZERO chance against an expert player, even with getting lucky a few times. the difference is less so in hold em. The reason hold em is popular is because there ARE more bad and slightly losing players that fill up the games.
Most full holdem tables i see around the $10-20 level fall into this pattern:
1-2 consistent winners (i.e.win at least $25/hour) 1-2 consistent break-even/slight winners ($5/hr) 4-6 slightly losing players (-$5-$10/hr) 1, maybe 2 big losers ($20 or more per hour)
here's the catch - the 4-6 slightly losing players probably thing they are break-even or slightly winning players, but frankly they're not. They don't keep records and they aren't honest with themselves.
