This came up in a recent draft: I have a darksteel brute and a cranial plating in play.  Can I activate the brute, equip it, and activate the brute again at end of turn so that plating remains attached? (I didnt have black mana for the insta-equip)  That play seems questionable to me but Im not sure why I wouldnt be able to do it.

The brute deanimates in the Cleanup step, not the end of turn step.

Even if you somehow got priority in the Cleanup step to animate it again, another cleanup step occurs and it deanimates again.

There is no way to keep it animated from one turn to another, so you cannot keep the equipment on it.

Also note that you can't use the Equip ability during the End Phase at all.  You could only play the "Attach" ability in the End Phase.  Regardless, what you propose cannot be done.

Thanks. I understood that the equip was played as a sorcery but not the whole cleanup step thing.  It was my understanding that if you played an until EoT ability end of turn it would actually end EoT next turn.  Are there instances where that is true?

Events that occur at the end of turn trigger at the beginning of the "End of Turn" phase. Events that occur until the end of turn end during the cleanup step, which is the very last thing to happen during the "End of Turn" phase.

Did you know that Red is the color or art and music and passion? Combine that with Green, the color of nature, spiritualism, and community and you get a hippie commune of drum circles, dreamcatchers, and recreational drug use. Let's see that win a Pro Tour.

You are confusing "At end of turn" with "until end of turn".

"At end of turn" denotes a trigger that triggers at the beginning of the next end of turn step.  If a delayed end of turn trigger is set up during the end of turn step (such as with Astral Slide) it will trigger at the beginning of the next end of turn step.

"Until end of turn" denotes the end of a duration of an effect.  These effects end in the Cleanup Step.

Normally, players don't get priority in the Cleanup Step, but sometimes they can get priority if something needs to be handled (such as a Madness trigger after discarding down to 7).  If players end up getting priority in the Cleanup Step, another cleanup step occurs.

This keeps you from carrying over effects that last for that turn to the next turn and also keeps you from ending a turn with more than 7 cards in hand.
