Gamemaster Gamers is Gilbert, AZ is holding a T1 Tournament for a Mox Ruby on October 16th at 2:00PM

5 Proxies allowed.
The store owner prefers proxies with pictures on it.
(You can go to http://magiccards.info/ to print out pictured cards, cut out slips of paper, and put them in front of a land card in a sleeve).

Collector's Edition cards ARE allowed, but DO count against the 5 proxies.

This is a great opportunity for those of you in Tucson, L.A., San Diego, and Las Vegas to win a mox, because the T1 players in Phoenix are not very good.
It will be like shooting fish in a barrel.

There will be four rounds of Swiss, followed by a cut to top 4/top 8 (depending on attendence).

Cost: $15
Date: October 16, 2004
Time: 2:00 PM
Number of Proxies: 5 (Proxies must have full text and picture ex: photocopy of card on slip of paper added to sleeved card)

1st Prize: Mox (based on 16+ attendence to cover cost of mox)
2nd-4th prizes will be based on attendence.

Directions: 2 Blocks South of Warner Rd., West Side, off Gilbert Road, next to Gilbert Wallace movie complex (480-558-0750)
Store owner is Nate.
(Directions, once in Phoenix: Take I-10 to US-60 East, to Gilbert Rd., South on Gilbert Rd about 4 miles)

You can also PM me for more info (KSesler)

Update:
The Mox being offered will be a Mox Ruby.

I have heard from folks in Flagstaff and Tucson that will be attending, as well as the people in Phoenix.

For those of you in San Diego, LA, Las Vegas, etc., this is a good chance for you to win a mox without having to fly 2000+ miles east.

Here is the Metagame you can expect at the Tournament Saturday.
(Depending on what the players from Tucson, Flagstaff and Las Vegas bring, this may change)

The Phoenix area is a very aggro-heavy enviroment, due to few players having full power. (I am one of the few exceptions).

The store runs smaller 5 proxy T1 events a couple of times/month, and there is another local store that runs T1 on Tuesdays.
Food Chain Goblins is very popular, as is SUI, so expect to see alot of both of these decks.

One or two players run Dragon, so you will see that too.
Only one person has been running Stax, but I feel it is a very effective build.
Expect to see a couple madness decks as well.

If this event draws a decent turnout, the store will try to run tournaments for Power about every other month, so I hope many of those who have contacted me can make it.

This seems wrong.  Slips of paper can fall or be manipulated to cheat.  Barring that, they also differentiate between different cards (You can cut to a card with a slip of paper in it quite consistently).

Also, although I'm not sure about this, I remember hearing that CE cards could be told apart in sleeves also.

What about judging?

Other than that, it looks like it's going to be a great event... too bad I am several thousand miles away Wink.

We have rather cyclic discussion, and I fully believe that someone so inclined could create a rather accurate computer program which could do a fine job impersonating any of us.

Hi Gandalf:

You stole my line "Other than that, it looks like it's going to be a great event... too bad I am several thousand miles away"

Since I am out here in the desert, I miss 99% of the great tournaments held on a regular basis out east.

I was at Origins, though, and have my plane ticket for the SCG event in Richmond on the 23rd.

Regarding the format of the proxies, this was the preference of the owner.
He has been running 5 proxy events regularly, and I don't remember any problems with the slips of paper.

Given what you have said about card manipulation, though, I will ask the store owner to encourage people to cut opponent's deck after every library manipulation and to do thorough side shuffles just to keep everyone honest.

I will also try to talk to the store owner and try to get him to do the proxies the SCG way (land cards with sharpies used to list card and text).
(I will brand land cards for others to use in case I am successful in getting this changed).

Thanks to everyone for the good turnout today (22 players).
There would have been more, but the carload of people could not make it because their car broke down just outside Vegas.

3 of the Top 4 players were from the Tucson area.
Miklos Szidarowsky (4cc Control) and Jared Sandler (Fish) decided to draw in the finals, and will share the NM Mox Ruby and the $50 for 1st and 2nd.

Deck lists have been posted in the Open Forum
