Is Leveler a candidate for banning? It seems to be doing very well for the moment, and it’s hard to beat. Despite the small tournament, it would have been capable of winning a much larger one. I don’t want to ban it if people think it’s fair, but I will do if it continues to be more than just a ‘strong’ deck.

Although this was a small tournament, I felt it was one of the highest-quality tournaments ever. There were no decks that you felt that everyone was picking on, and Laurie Cheers suffered as a result.

Again, apologies for the further delay, normal service will resume as of next week. The next tournament is now open (separate thread to follow).

Please post any corrections/discussions.

Tom

Now everything's back to normal. I hope.

I assume GoblinBoy was running a Mishra's Factory, not a Workshop? Kind of hard for him to do as well as he did without a win condition...

Leveler seems iffy, definitely a to-be-watched card but probably not bannable just yet. It's very resilient to mana denial in the forms of Port, Sphere of Resistance, 3sphere, and so on, but also very weak to control like removal, Bridge, and Field. And of course, except for something like Processor, it's the largest creature in the format by far.

Good point about the Factory. But Port, Sphere etc. have very little effect. 3sphere just slows it down a turn, as does Sphere of Resistance (they don't have to tap Vault the turn it comes down); Port has no effect as they can play and use Factory before you tie it down. Bridge does beat it, it must be said - maybe the problem is that there's nobody playing any of these...

Right, I'm back up and running at last.

I'll fix all the results from the previous tournaments and try and sort anything out that needs it. Sorry for running things so poorly over the last few weeks, but as I say it won't be a problem in future. I hope. Or not for another 3 months minimum.

Correction (not that it will matter to the final standings):

Erdrick/Vitual vs. GoblinGame:
should have been 6-0 instead 3-3

If Erdrick/Vitual goes 1st:
1st Turn [card]Leveler[/card] wins by Turn 4.

If GoblinGame goes 1st:
1st Turn tap [card]Mishras Workshop[/card] for [card]Mana Vault[/card] (2 mana floating does not care about [card]Daze[/card]).  2nd Turn tap [card]Mishras Workshop[/card] and [card]Mana Vault[/card] for [card]Leveler[/card] (1 mana floating does not care about [card]Daze[/card] either).  Beat down poor [card]Flying Men[/card] and win by Turn 5.

Wonky,
Since many of the cards used in 3CB were cast into my box of worthless cards when I opened them in packs years ago, can you please card popup the decklist in the tournament reports like I did for the cards above?  Thank you.

Sorry, but it's still 3-3. You may have 2 mana floating, but it can only be used to pay for artifacts. Daze asks you to play  {1} extra, and you're not using the excess mana floating to pay for the artifact - you're trying to use it to pay for the extra cost imposed by daze, which can't be done with workshop. Compare this to [card]trinisphere[/card], where the workshop can be used to pay the extra cost, as in that case the cost of the artifact is increased. Daze is a seperate cost.

No problem about the card pop-ups, I'll just have to hope that I won't end up taking forever with a 30-person tournament!

Very few entries so far, I could really do with some more. I'll let everyone who's entered know about second decks soon; if there aren't any new entries by tomorrow morning then send away.

Or, if it does end up taking ages, just put a link at the top to http://www.cardkingdom.com - easy to search for any cards used there.
