I'm interested in seeing winning decklists for Highlander tournaments.
For example, the description for the upcoming MD Championships says "Be the first to defeat reigning Highlander Champion, Bryce "kl0wn" Reynolds and win a Beta Psionic Blast." What has Reynolds played in the past?
I love the Highlander format because the games tend to be a lot more fun.
Thanks for any info!

Bryce played a sort of enchantment centric keeper, with Future Sight and the "cantrip suite."
He was considering writing a highlander primer of sorts. I'll pressure him in to doing it for you.

Ok, but if it gets played at a big tournament and wins (or even places highly), then everyone will know what it is.

Not that I have done anything notable with this highlander deck, but it can hold its own versus many strong type 1 decks (one of my friends won a Jet with a nearly identical build in a small unlimited proxy tourney). This is the list, but a few cards are somewhat in flux: Definitely in: exalted angel decree of justice morphling (razormane) masticore gorilla shaman force of will mana drain counterspell mana leak prohibit annul duress misdirection demonic tutor mystical tutor vampiric tutor merchant scroll tinker tainted pact impulse ancestral recall fact or fiction night's whisper skeletal scrying time walk yawgmoth's will crucible of worlds swords to plowshares balance fire/ice either powder keg or pernicious deed (I like Deed) 7 solomoxen tundra underground sea volcanic island tropical island scrubland plateau polluted delta flooded strand bloodstained mire windswept heath undiscovered paradise city of brass LoA wasteland strip mine underground river adarkar wastes island potential (4 of these) (there are pros and cons of each): darksteel colossus + brainstorm + thirst for knowledge (all or none IMHO--you don't want to be stuck with tinker + colossus in yuor hand) psychatog vindicate mind twist Karn mind's eye cunning wish mana crypt/lotus petal/badlands (if you want 26 rather than 25 sources) future sight
This is obviously keeper-esque, but the lack of powerful countermagic forces you to be re-active rather than counter-active. Thus, it isn't bad to run more removal than keeper because you can't count on that turn 1 force of will. This build is very bombs-oriented, on the basis that if you drop one of your serious bombs, then you can win in spite of your opponent's best efforts. The sideboard is still in flux, but includes more creature control as well as some GY hate and hopefully some anti-combo cards, plus REB/BEB. The MD cunning wish can be fun because you have a lot of useful instants in the SB (r & r, disenchant, etc.). The deck could also use more small cantrips to reduce the effective deck size, but that tends to work against the "bombs" idea.

Covetous wheres the faerie conclave and mishra's factory no reason not to run the lands that can beat in highlander its generally a slower format. Also are you really running only one basic land seems kinda of risky with so much love of crucible of the worlds and wasteland. I might add that if you are running tinker it should be a given to run darksteel colossus nothing like tinkering for him to win a game.

Do you want to play against a highlander field or a typical T1 field? They should be based on different priciples in deckbuilding.

On my manabase--I like it a lot and it seems to work pretty well without manlands. I don't like CIPT lands, so no conclave. And I like colored mana, so no factory. Plus factories are so much better in multiples. I don't fear nonbasic hate in highlander because cards like blood moon, wasteland and b2b are only one-ofs and generally complete crap in the format. Don't get lured into a false sense of security. Real highlander is almost as competitive as real type 1. Sure, it's not quite the same but don't be foolish and assume that you can play a crappy deck in highlander just because it's slower than type 1. Highlander can be as broken as type 1, it's just a little less consistent (i.e. few FoW/Duress/Mana Drain). You still use the same broken cards as well as more tutors--broken things are sure to happen. And on the colossus note, I said that colossus + TFK + brainstorm is a legitimate thing to try. However, with only 3 ways (TFK, masticore, brainstorm) to shuffle the colossus into your library, it sucks that much more to draw him. I'm sure you could come up with some degenerate combo deck for highlander, but it would be challenging because you can't have 4 of some of your good fixers. However, I bet you could make some filthy tendrils/rector deck that would make baby jesus cry. Or possibly even grim/power. I prefer a keeper-esque control deck that is based more on board control than pure countermagic--thus, my prototype builds ran more removal than 4cC does. I have recently tried a build with mini-search cards like opt, sleight, serum visions and fewer high-CC bombs. The hope is to get your real bombs (tinker, yawgwin, balance) more often by reducing your effective deck size. I have yet to decide which is better--smaller, cheaper, more efficient spells or bombier spells each of which can drastically change the game state. Let's face it--cards like gorilla shaman, pernicious deed and mind twist can seriously swing the game in your favor, but can also be bulky or useless at times. It might be better to effectively play a 50 card deck with the same number of super-bombs and a greater chance of drawing them due to hand fixers, card draw and tutors.
