Hemogoblin
{2}{B}{R}
Creature -- Goblin Horror
1/1

Haste
Pay three life: Put a +1/+1 counter on Hemogoblin

***

Okay, I admit it, I started with a name and built a card around it. I think it captures the idea of a blood-based goblin very well. The power level may need to be tweaked a little bit. I don't think that lowering the life payment to two life would be appropriate, but it might be okay to change the mana cost to {1}{B}{R}.

I'm pretty sure this isn't overpowered. For {2}{B}{R}, one could expect at least a 4/4 creature, which takes a lot of life. However, if this comes on the tail of a large Consume Spirit, the life payment is 1) less of a drawback, 2) can make this creature pretty huge and 3) can be spread out over the course of several turns, which means you can make this creature bigger later with another Consume Spirit. Now that I think about it, this card makes a nice combination with Dega Sanctuary. Not broken, of course, but nice.

This is neat, but since being two colors is such a huge drawback, this could easily be cheaper.

Oh, and it should totally be a Vampire Goblin.

All right, {1}{B}{R} and Creature type Vampire Goblin. I like those changes. If you think the mana cost needs to be decreased again, I may, although that's getting into the point where this could actually be really dangerous. A second turn, hasty 4/4, even at a cost of nine life, is a very serious threat.

With a name that amusing, I'd like to see something more interesting than a weenie Souldrinker...

Hemogoblin
{2}{B}{R}
Creature - Vampire Goblin
1/1
Pay 3 life or sacrifice a creature: Put a +1/+1 counter on Hemogoblin.
Remove two +1/+1 counters from Hemogoblin: Regenerate Hemogoblin.

Wow, talk about subconscious influences. I'd forgotten that Souldrinker even existed although looking at it now, I remember it just fine.

As far as your version goes, Laurie, I see lots of vampire and no goblin.

Would mine be better (hopefully not too much better) if I were to reduce the mana cost to {B}{R} and change the activation cost of his ability to {1}, Pay two life; and leave it with haste? That way, for the original suggested mana cost and four life, you get a 3/3 with the potential to keep growing.

Okay, I'm making some changes to this, just to differentiate it from Souldrinker. It's reasonably cheap and the pumping ability is a bargain, in my opinion. However, it's multi-coloured, which is apparently a huge drawback. I'll take people's word for that, since I make really good use of gold cards, usually.

More goblinny, huh? How about something like:

{1}, pay 2 life: Put a +1/+1 counter on Hemogoblin.
{1}{R}, Sacrifice Hemogoblin: Hemogoblin deals damage to target player equal to the number of +1/+1 counters on it.

That's becoming too much like Cinder Shade. I suppose I can't really deny that my card has similarities to Souldrinker, but it's earned its red component, at least.

Don't almost all vampires fly? And aren't they all generally pretty big? This seems somewhat inconsistent with what a vampire is in magic.

Okay, it's true that most vampire's fly. That's a point against this. I may need to make it a Horror again, as much as I like the idea of a Vampire Goblin. However, I'd hardly call this a small creature. For a payment comparable to that of a normal vampire (ie, something like 3CC) and a reasonable investment of life, you get a 4/4 hasty creature with a killer ability. I'd like some other opinions, though. I like the humour aspect of a Vampire Goblin ('cause let's face it; goblins are funny), but it may not be appropriate. I'll leave this one up to a vote. So far, there's two votes in favour of Vampire, one vote against.

Well, the Vampires tend to start out at like 4/4ish and get bigger from there. Even if this guy can hit that level, he's still "really" a 1/1.

Vampires are also known for their ability to turn other creatures into vampires. Say a little goblin got bitten by the vamp bug - you'd have a little vampire! I vote firmly pro-vampire.

Could somebody besides Matt, Jacob, or myself post on whether this is okay as a Vampire? They're the votes I already had before I called for a vote. A simple "Yes" if you think it's okay to leave this as a vampire or "No" if you think it's not okay would suffice.

Why not add something like "If ~this~ has 3 or more +1/+1 counters on it, it gains flying" (maybe a better wording is needed?). So it is a vampire... but it just need to "grow" enough to be a good one  Wink

I think Malhavoc has a good idea, but I also could see it just being a vampire as it is, because vampires(although not how they are potrayed in magic) I would think are pretty weak without blood. So once you give it the blood it needs to become stronger. Atleast that is how I view it.

I also cite Sengir Bats and Vampire Bats as the fact that vampirism doesn't necessarily mean large size.

They're both races aren't they? If so, I'm not sure it makes a difference. I wanted it to sound the same as "Vampire Bat" except this is "Vampire Goblin"
