Nahuatl, Words That Empower
2W
Enchantment
If a permanent would come into play tapped, it comes into play untapped instead.
Initially their obscure, code-like language was a source of strategic advantage to Xolotl warriors. Since it was used sparsely, for fear of decryption, Xolotl became known among their enemies as 'silent soldiers'.

Obviously some sort of reverse Kismet thing, only symmetrical. I believe it to be sufficiently different from our articaf 'Actuator'. The flavor is in line with my Aztec-like theme.

Current wording:
Nahuatl, Words That Empower
1W
Enchantment
All permanents come into play untapped.
Initially their obscure, code-like language was a source of strategic advantage to Xolot warriors. Since it was used sparsely, for fear of decryption, Xolot became known among their enemies as 'silent soldiers'.

[edit]
- lowered mana cost
- changed wording to static ability

Isn't this really weak?

There aren't many CIP tapped cards that see play and it is a very expensive answer to Root Maze. I am sure there is a funky combo out there (Thawing Glaciers?) but as it would need at least 3 cards I doubt if this card is comboriffic.

I think this could be cheaper and non-symmetrical but I may be missing something.

Of course if you added

If a permanent would come into play untapped, it comes into play tapped instead.

You'd have a funky card and a rules nightmare (sort of a symmetrical Kismet/powered up Root Maze/Sands of Time)

Certainly, there aren't many CIPT cards that see play. Perhaps if a card like this existed, they'd appear more frequently. Also, does this cause Rampant Growth and the like to put things into play untapped?

Also, I'd have a new 'Actuator'.

Yes. I believe so. If it doesn't, I need to reword this so that it does Smile

The fact that it's symmetrical makes it flavorful. You know, the Xolotl being afraid to use it because if they do, their enemies can do so too. Also, it doesn't really make it weaker as noone plays CIP Tapped cards by default. So maybe this can be a bit cheaper then.

How bout 1W?

At 1W I fear it not.

Do Timestamps work OK with this and Root Maze or do you get into a nasty loop?

Wow, I was actually thinking of this mechanic the other day. Smile

I don't see why this wouldn't work out.  I don't see any loops.

I think this would apply first, then Root Maze, so they'd still all CIPT. This applies first because it would look at it, see it coming into play untapped, then Root Maze would tap it. I think.

Pretty cool card though. And 1W is fine. Until something comes out to make it utterly abusive, but I can't see anything happening to wreck this in Vintage.

The more I think about it, the more complicated it gets.  I'm not certain it will work correctly as a replacement effect.

It would probably easier to word it as "All permanents come into play untapped."  Now we have a straight static ability that doesn't create a replacement effect.

Now we can rely on Time Stamps to get through rules issues.

What about a triggered ability such as "Whenever a permanant comes into play tapped, untap it."

The flavour text needs to be changed to reflect the changes that have been made. Xolotl should be Xolot. Also, I think the flavour text is a little bit lengthy. Maybe something like:

In battle, Xolot warriers spoke only at great need, so their foes named them the "silent soldiers."

I wanted the flavor text to be 'encyclopedia-entry-like'.

I changed the name.

I don't really like cantrip enchantments all that much. Also: I don't feel the need to up the power level, really. I don't mind making so-so cards.

Clock?
