I'll assume you guys have seen this.

If not, here's the link
http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=mtgcom/feature/236

Anyway, I was thinking about it since I do commercial art anyway and still have access to a lot of good supplies to do a nice job.   The thing is what to start with?

So I ask, what do you think will get the general populances attention enough to actually be considered?  You have to remember more tabletop players read that page than anything.  Also, considering there is an abundant supply of ideas in the card creation forum, which one stands out enough to curve towards the idea?

I think I would just be happy to have gotten considered at all, but if I get lucky enough maybe we can make one of those ideas a reality.

Give me a link to some of the better ideas and I'll see what I can come up with.

I have a digital cam too so I can post the drafts for opinions.

Oh man this is going to be the WORST you make the card ever. The second one was awesome and gave us Gazazargasgazargazow's Plow which is a really sweet, and some say broken, card. This one is going to be totally lame. Someone is going to draw a panda bear that shoots pineapples out of its ass and its going to be a 2GWR creature that completely blows.

I think we need either a really good nonbasic land, or we need to try to fill in a gap somewhere in the disparity of the color wheel's abilities. There are many cards that should be printed that haven't been yet. Inevitably they are going to try to make this one as complicated and "flavorful" as possible so I think if we are to have a real chance at this, we should encourage any artists with talent here on TMD to talk about what kinds of cards we really would like to see and then try to draw them. I know the kiddies will still want to vote for the pineapple panda so like CCClark says we should factor their influence in here. And we should also encourage all of TMD to vote in the polls. They usually have about ten thousand people on those decisions, and we have almost three thousand members. So we could have a significant impact on the vote.

And delving into our card creation archives for cards that we really want to see is a good idea. Matt! Tell us what to do.

Ok, so it's going to be damn near impossible to get signed copies of this thing.  Wonderful idea - who complained that we got to do everything but the art?  The voting itself was enough for me.

I will break into your house while you aren't home and disguise myself as a chair. Then I will leave before you get home, but there will be a place at your table where I was a chair and you will wonder why there isn't a chair there. Then later I will leave the chair disguise on your doorstep and you will realize what has happened and you will be afraid all the time. Helter Skelter mother fuckers!

Well, it would be really tough to make an interesting land since just about every type of terrain has been drawn at least once.

Anyway, if it's a creature we have to pick something people would actually vote on.  Demons, Dragons (wow overdone), Angels, and the like.   Demons stands a decent chance.  Either way, that has to be kept in mind.

Artifacts would be rough getting through the voting part unless it's pretty interesting to begin with.

Instant, well, depends on what we want it to do.

Bleh, sorceries.

I'd vote for a huge giant about to stomp on a planewalker (just hinting it's a planewalker).

I think humor could bring this far, as long as it's not overdone. Smile

Good question. He'd completely pwn this. I need to contact him one of these days on a somewhat related issue.

Maybe we should get Drew Tucker to send in some of his stuff again.

BRING BACK DREW! BRING BACK DREW! BRING BACK DREW!

All together now.

What was the deal with Drew?  Does anyone know the story.  Why did they change the art on Plateau?  I've wanted to know since I have a rogue deck that runs unlimited ones.  It was a bitch trying to find them but they look so pimp Smile

The original art file got corrupted, so they stole the art they were going to use for an Ice Age dual land (which they later changed to painlainds + depletion lands anyway).

Jacob is right. The scan got corrupted and Drew lost the original artwork. The Ice Age 'plateau' artist was Cornelius Brudi, but the RV Plateaus were mistakenly attributed to Drew anyway.

Most people don't even notice it wasn't by him, because both plaitings look 'weird' but upon closer examination, it can easily be seen that the new version does not fit Drew's style at all.

Drew Tucker, while being a personal favorite of all MtG artists I ever talked to (Parente, Fischer, Gallegos, Tedin, Post), was never a crowd favorite. He had this hardcore group of fans, but most people tended to like the more standard fantasy artwork style offered by such artists as Ron Spencer. Since Wizards caters to the majority, I think Drew wasn't asked again after Tempest. It could also be related to copyrigth issues like with other artists, but since Drew's cards are notoriously bad, I don't reprint copyright issues were a factor.

I also wondered at one point if it was Drew who didn't wanna do it anymore, but I doubt that, too, since he's been doing a LOT of other games (that are all, admittedly, with a slightly darker en therefore more fitting (to his work) atmosphere)
