Well, I went to vote today, and I was surprised to find that they weren't using voting booths. We had to fill in a circle like on the SATs. Was it the same for everyone else in the other states?

I voted absentee. It wasn't any different than the past two years.

In Oregon we all vote by mail. There are always lengthy referendum ballot measures and having to sort all that out in a little booth would suck. This year, the most controversial is an amendment to the state constitution that would ban gay marriage.
With regards to the whole process, I'm looking forward to an end to all of the political ads, but I have a real pit in my stomach about some of the potential outcomes of this election. "Democracy" in this country is a bloody sham.

SAT style ballots.
Lemme say that if people didn't vote today, for whomever they wish, they are pieces of shit. You heard me, non-voters, PIECES OF SHIT. If you don't like your choices, write in yourself or don't vote in that given election. BUT VOTE. If you haven't voted, go vote.

It would have been sweet if my vote mattered. I could have voted absentee in MA, but I figured if I reregistered in IL, I could vote for Obama. Which also didn't matter, by the way.
But yeah, I had to choose between two states that are already in Kerry's pocket, but I still voted. Nobody has any excuse. Especially people in Ohio. I know there are bunches of people on these boards in Ohio. You guys needed to have all voted.

I voted in the morning, and only had to wait about 40 minutes at the booths - not bad considering the wait some others had.
I didn't give money to either campaign. I figured Kerry would collect my donation when he raised my taxes, and Bush was already getting my vote.
Living in Virginia rocks! God I love the South.

I voted absentee ballot for my home state (as opposed to NC where I'm at now). Everybody really ought to vote, although I don't know that anybody can be disappointed with this year's turnout.

In the Bay Area in 2002, we had computerized touch-screens, but they gave you a magnetized strip card--like an ATM card--that you inserted into the voting machine when you voted. When you had finished voting, looked it over again, and hit the final "Vote" button, AFAIK it sent the data directly to the server, but you also deposited the card in a box on the way out. If something happened to the information on the server, they could always duplicate it by just swiping the cards. It's not entirely foolproof, but it seemed like a great idea to me, and certainly better than fucking "pregnant chads". The down side being, some of the elderly voters were frightened by the simple fact that it was computerized to begin with.
Down here in So. Cal. (at least in my district) there was not even that safe-guard. You were provided an access code which you typed in, did your voting, hit "cast ballet" and thats it. It is possible there was a "behind the scenes" saftey measure I am not aware of, still I would much prefer a print out or card or any hard copy backup. while liberals like myself tend to feel that it's better labeled an "intelligence bias" ). And here I thought you libby's HATED lables. (10 pts. to anyone who can name the non-political reference)

SAT style voting.
Going to vote at 8am with NO LINE is priceless. I feel sorry for those that had to wait a third of a day just to cast a ballot.

Not a punch-card, but an ink-stamp sorta' deal.
Perhaps I'm incorrect, but it really seems clear to me that there is no reason NOT to vote...
...to put it simply: there are two people. One will screw up this county up less than the other. Please vote for that one.
Is it more complicated than this? Doubtlessly, some will argue that it is, but I think that when the issue is broken down, this is what you will find.

Yeah, I didn't see this thread until now. Anyway, we used the SAT style ballots here. I went and voted despite being in a state that is already decided, needless to say my vote didn't matter but I did it anyway because it is my responsibility.
