Machinated Manor
Land
T: Add 1 to your mana pool.
T: Target noncreature artifact becomes a creature with power and toughness each equal to the number of Machinated Manors in play.
Its doors never close.

OK, so, a Karn-land. Sort of. It costs you a land drop and it can't kill any moxen. It also limits the power of animated stuff to 4 (or rather, to 8 Smile. Attack for 1 with your Moxen, yo!

Current Wording:

Machinated Manor
Land -- Structure
T: Add 1 to your mana pool.
T: Target noncreature artifact you control becomes a creature with power and toughness each equal to the number of Structures play until end of turn.
Its doors never close.

[EDIT] Changed to 'you control'
[EDIT] Changed subtype
[EDIT] Addded double hyphen

This gives black a really easy way to kill artifacts.

I was going to suggest something awkward with the casting cost of the artifact limiting the targets and becoming the P/T, but your solution is better.

This card is cool now.

It would be cooler if it was like Cloudpost and relied on a land type instead of a name. Its always cool if mechanics can be expanded on later.

I know this won't happen in a tournament, but if my opponent has Chaos Orb in his hand while I'm controlling his turn from a Mindslaver, who flips the card if I force him to play it and activate it?

Heck, that's fine with me.

[edit] Hmm. I can't make it say '...for eacht locus' like on cloudpost. I wanted to say 'loci' but opted for 'locus lands'  to avoud problems. Can that work?

You just need to say locus. It's like the shrines from Champions--it's a specific subtype.

Right, but I think the problem is finding a nice way to pluralize Locus. Technically it's Loci, but then it might be a little awkward.

You could do '... becomes a 0/0 artifact creature that gets +1/+1 for each Locus in play,' but that doesn't seem to elegant to me. It would, however, make it a little clearer that playing another Locus later would pump the creature. (As it stands, they become creatures permanently. Is this what you intended?)

"...the number of Locus in play"? Really? That sounds weird. Oh well.

I meant that you didn't need the land part of "locus land". You still need to pluralize as appropriate.

Yeah, that's what I initially said. But I'm kind of afraid noone will understand what Loci are. That's why I came up with the 'land' thing.

Best option?
-Loci
-Locusses
-Locus lands

If the land itself has locus subtype then people will be able to get what Loci are from looking at the card as a whole. I don't think that should be a major worry.

Just use "for each Locus". Simple.

Yes, but 'for each locus' would imply rephrasing the entire thing. Then it would have to get a +1/+1 counter for each locus or something.

Like: 'Target noncreature artifact you control becomes a creature with a +1/+1 couter for ech Locus in play until end of turn.' That's even worde.

I still think Locus lands is the best way to go.

Or make it worse and just say 'Machinator Manor'

Or maybe Loci with a reminder text Smile

Really easy meaning animating an opponent's artifact (tap this land), then blow up the land (assuming no other Loci in play).

That is hardly easy and as a 2 card combo it is difficult enough to be allowable.

It would take away from the synergy with Cloudpost, but you could always just create a unique subtype for it.

Ooh, you could base the p/t on the number of treasures in play!

nah...that takes away some of the flavor. I don't wanna swing that way, ideally.

I've narrowed it down to:

- Locus lands
- Machinated Manors

You guys choose Smile

You could give it the subtype "structure" and use that. There's already at least one structure in the Master List (either land or artifact, I forget).

That only complicates the issue.

While the idea of synergy with other cards is neat, I would just leave it as the number of Machinated Manors in play.  The Manor is a particular type of structure that does a particular thing; why should the nearby Cloudpost affect it?  Making it a Locus just seems gimmicky.

Changed. By the way:

Animated monarch / demonic amaranth / machinated manor (all anagrams for themanadrain.com)'s flavor texts combined form:

Its doors never close / its hue never fades / its dysnasty never ends.

themanadrain.com is kinda like Captain Planet that way. Let's hope it proves to be true.

I like the idea, but isn't this a little too strong? the thing about manlands is that creature destruction easily kills them. This land, on the other hand, is only killable to land destruction, which is not going to be in a huge proportion of decks in all formats.

My solution? Convolute it more by making it an artifact land.

More often than not, this land will turn your artifacts into 1/1 or 2/2 men at best. Those are easily killed by creature destruction as well as artifact destruction.

Okay, I dunno, I feel that equipment is broken because it turns each creature you control into a threat, rather than just one of them. I think that's why I don't like this card, becasue I don't like one card turning everything into a threat. Obvioulsy though, they printed equipment, so I don't see how this couldn't be printed as well.

Should we add some clause such that if they blow up the land, the artifacts de-animate?

Does this wording set a specific p/t at the time of resolution or will the p/t flucuate with the number of structures?  Either way I dont see a need to have the artifacts de-animate, just curious.
