That powered/unpowered information is quite handy.  It's interesting to notice how unpowered decks made up 1/3 of the decks in the field, but then made up almost 2/3s of the decks in the bottom half of the standings.

MaxxMatt does that all the time for the italian results. Not having power correlates with poor performance quite strongly, but it may also correlate with worse players. Finding real causation there would be tricky.

I don't think you really mean "worse players," because if someone doesn't own power, it doesn't mean they are necessarily worse than someone who does own power.  I've seen some pretty bad players with full power and Shops and some great players with unpowered Fish.  I think lack of power corresponds more to players new to Vintage ("inexperienced" is a better word in this case), or players who don't get a chance to play a lot of T1, which makes the purchases not worthwhile

Well, I'm talking specifically about European tournaments here, since America has proxies. Players who are less interested in/committed to Vintage won't shell out for power. Sure, a few of the unpowered players may do really well, but many of them are going to be worse on average than the powered players.

Many of the players in Karlsruhe that don't own power also lack playskill. These are the more casual players and can be found in the last 1/3 of the field.
Then we have some players that don't own power, but are good players, like Matthias, who borrowed his deck from the shop owner just before the tournament started.

Playing unpowered, regardless of playskill, (as we all know) often leads to lower performance. I played unpowered decks myself and you really need some luck to place well.
