ok well i've never done one of these before. I've been playing magic for about eight years now but i've only been good at it for the past 2. So anyway I usually always play combo seeing as i dont have any drains so I i dunno how this is gonna work out. The metagame around here is gonna be against lots of workshop decks, couple of oath decks, a keeper, food chain goblins and then other random unpowered decks.
without further ado, the deck:
Mana (man aww?) 1 Black Lotus 1 mox ruby 1 mox jet 1 mox sapphire 1 mox emerald 1 mox pearl 1 lotus petal 1 mox diamond 1 sol ring 1 mana crypt
4 dark rituals
7 swamps 1 strip mine 4 wastelands 4 mishras 4 polluted deltas
Discard 4 duress 4 hymn to torach
shut down 4 chalice of the void 3 nether voids
beasties 3 juggernauts
other goodies 1 demonic tutor 1 yawgmoths will 2 skeletal scrying 4 diabolic edict
I think I have too much mana. I know it sux. so tell me oh great TheManaDrain.com people what'do I do?

forgot my explanations
Black Lotus, mox ruby, mox jet, mox sapphire, mox emerald, mox pearl, lotus petal, mox diamond, sol ring, mana crypt, dark ritual I wanna get out void as quickly as possible. then not be screwed by its effect. It might be overkill, i dunno.
polluted delta seems weird cause i dont have swamps but with all the mana floating around i wanna thin my deck out plus they i can skeletal scry them later on.
strip mine, wastelands obvious....
Hymn, duress whats better than swamp. ritual. duress. hymn?
chalice once void im about to drop void if they have power, i drop chalice for 0 so they cant bring out moxes and the like. against workshop i drop it for 3 shutting it down and oath i can drop it for 2 if i have a lock. (drains, oath)
juggernaut with all the off color moxes and solg rings this just seemed like a perfect fit. I used to have hypnotics but they were just too slow.
Demonic tutor, yawgmoths will staples
skeletal scrying this deck runs outta steam fast and with the deltas, rituals and hand destruction there is plenty to remove from my graveyard.
Diabolic edict against oath it'll save me a turn, against tinker colossus, it'll save me more than a few. its just good in general.
so thats it like i said, it sux but i dont know how to change it. how do you feel about the abyss, smokestack, chainers edict, planar void. also i have NO CLUE what to put in my sideboard...im pretty sure i want planar void against oath. (does it cancel out gaes blessing?)
help me!! thanx

I do believe that you run far too much mana. the first thing that I would cut would be the workshops, because all you can play from them is the juggies and the chalice. I'd also up the threat count.
I would throw in some razormane maticore for the creatures that do slip by, because your hand might be clogged anyway becaue of the void. You might also want to add some mishra's factory, because you don't pay for land drops. I'd cut the petal, it really doesn't do much in terms of acceleration and its only one mana that isn't reusable., if you feel like it, you could add a demonic consultation that could tutor up the threats or the voids or a rit or something. Just my two cents.

You definitely have too much mana - cut Diamond whatever you do. You also really don't need 'colorless' moxes (Crypt is okay and Sol Ring is definitely good), but having some solid threats and draw in place would help you in those cases where you don't get cute god-hands.
While I certainly admire a Swamp, Ritual, Mox, Duress, Sol Ring, Nether Void openings with Juggernaut backup, it's not consistant. Most hands full of acceleration and 1 'bomb' come to a screaming halt in the face of FoW. And getting around FoW means you need discard and if you're drawing discard, you're not drawing gas unless you have the hand I described above.
Your win condition is questionable. With Chalice and Edicts, Phyrexian Negator is pretty safe. Not only that, but its much better against most control and combo.
I also think you need more disruption here. I think that 'hating' the environment is really the one thing you can do to give you an edge. I think Wretch is best since it hates Welder, Will, and some other stuff while beating for 2.
So maybe try:
-1 Diamond (seriously not worth it) -1 Edict -3 off-color Moxen (keep Sapphire and Jet) -3 Juggernaut +1 Scrying +3 Withered Wretch +4 Phyrexian Negator
As a bonus, here's the crazy SB I'd run:
2 Island 3 Energy Flux 3 (something) 3 Trinisphere 3 Psychatog 1 Skeletal Scrying
Since 5/3 wil be the roughest for you, you can do this:
-4 Negator -4 Hymn +3 Energy Flux +2 Island +3 Psychatog (-Voids +something)
Just a crazy idea though.
EDIT: took out Matrix

Damping Matrix is not a combo with Withered Wretch. What matchups would you side the Matrixes (Matrices?) in, if not CSlaver?
*EDIT* Psychatog is not a combo with Damping Matrix either. Dare I say, you are going to have a LOT of trouble beating 5/3 with Grizzly Bears and Squires. Would you be better off splashing red instead for Rack and Ruin and Lightning Bolt?

*EDIT* Nevermind, Scrying is fine. You are missing Necropotence though.
What you should put in your sideboard is Crucible of Worlds. Nether Void + recurring Strip/Waste is probably game if you've disrupted enough.

I may be missing something, but to me you are going to scoop to just about any kind of control deck. Most 4cc or keeper builds can outdraw your hand disruption, counter your 3 real threats and either wasteland/fire/block/b2b/whateverelsetheywant to your factories.
I know it's been said, but this deck definately needs a higher threat count. I know your chains can put the hurt on control...if they resolve...and then you both enjoy the topdecking war and usually they are going to win, you just don't have the kind of bombs you need to draw to win.
A lot of your deck will take splash damage from other SB or MD choices. Your artifacts are dead in the water against any field that is expecting a decent turnout of 'shop decks. Your voids will have hate meant for Oath, etc... Not tryin to just make bad remarks because this could be at least a decent deck for a random not-so-powered field but just giving you a few things to think about.

I don't think that control decks will win a topdeck war with chains on the table. Control decks that focus on card card draw ('Tog decks, for example) want to draw lots of cards and counter some spells. When chains is on the table, most of the cards that a control deck draws will be useless. Control decks run fewer threats most of the time, and you will be drawing things like discard/threats/removal while they may be getting dead draws with things like brainstorm and whatever draw engine they're running.

ok well chains is basically not an option for me. they're way too much and i'm trying to work with what I have. I've been doing ALOT of research and heres a new list. I really want this deck to work. Im always known as "the combo guy" at every tournament so it'll be great when I whip out mono black. jaws will drop. pants will be stained. [/b]Mana (man aww?)[/b] 1 Black Lotus 1 Mox Jet 3 Off Color Mox 1 sol ring 4 dark rituals 7 swamps 1 strip mine 4 wastelands 4 mishras [factories] 4 polluted deltas Discard 4 duress 4 hymn to torach 2 Unmask shut down 4 chalice of the void 3 nether voids 1 Crucible of Worlds beasties 4 Phyrexian Negators Bag 'O' tricks1 Demonic tutor 1 Vampric 3 skeletal scrying 3 diabolic edict I figure the extra hand destruction will help, especially if I dont need the edicts. and i added the crucible for another method of lockdown. i dunno i guess i need more threats but i dont know what to take out. HELP ME! heh thanx p.s. I really appreciate everything u guys have said so far. p.p.s. what are you're thoughts on % nantuko shade/wicked akuba % planar void % cabal therapy - against oath(its doubly good! yay) % contagion % splash blue for tinker, ancestral, timewalk % splashing red for fork and hammer of bogarden those cards are the r0xxxeeers!!!!1!1!!!! last one was a joke...... *ahem*...anyway....

Random discard may not be what you need in todays meta - maybe something like Distress (people have argued its par with Hymn, though I still fail to see) or Cabal Therapy in its place.
You also most definately need Withered Wretch to deal with graveyards.

i see what your saying but not main deck because no one i know of plays welder or anything that makes the graveyard matter except crucible, tog and oath decks.

This is a deck i've been working on to lend to my unpowered friends to play at turnies, I gave this list out to a bunch of people in my area so i might as well give it to you as well. Im not sure how usefull it will be for you but maybe it can help others, your meta game seems wierd (no welders?!?! WWretch bad ect.) The deck is focused on mana denial but it has a lot of room for custimization and meta gaming. its quite different than your list but it is a Mono Black Control deck so it has some similarities even if only in theme.
Dark Harvest
4 cumbajj witches 4 Withered Wretch 2 Greater Harvester 4 Duress 4 Sinkhole 4 Crucible of worlds 4 Dark rituals 3 Null Rod* 3 Pox 1 VT 1 DT 1 Will 1 Necro 2 Diabolic Edict 1 Lotus 1 Jet 1 Petal 1 Chrome mox** 5 Strips 1 Volraths stronghold 12 Swamps
SB (obviously this is meta dependant so i will list what should and what could be in here) 4 Chalice of the Void * These go maindeck instead of null rods sometimes 3 Chains of Meph (this can be a 5 proxy deck and these are proxies 3-5)
These are the only necessary sb things the rest is just what could be in there
Hymn, Dystopia, Nevs Disk, Nether Voids, more edicts, mutilate, Drinker of sorrow/negator, Spawning pit/helm of obiedience/Eon hub/any anti oath teck, Tormods crypt, cabal therapy,
Chrome mox is better in here as you dont need off colour moxen for anything, all the key spells are solid black. The artifact mana is never really dead even if you have a rod/chalice in play as you can discard them to pox.
This is obviously a very metagame dependant deck, there is little combo here but lots of workshops and LOTS of control, which is the reasoning behind running cards like C witches and Edicts main deck, they could easily be replaced with something like Nights whisper or Nether void.
It would be quite easy to do a splash sideboard with 4 fetches main deck i just didn't like the extra pain with the witches and pox. You could run blue for energy flux, or red for R&R Viashino heretic, or white for Vindicate and swords, its really up to you.

I am having a really hard time. I dont know what to take out. there is so much to choose from I've never played mono black competativley before and i've never tried "hate" before either. so i know whats good but I dont know whats not good enough. theres so much to coose from.
I sound like such a newb but I dunno I'm just really excited about this deck and its supposed to be a surprise so I really dont have second chance at this.
grrr. friday is drawing near. guess it'll be combo this week again. maybe mono blue....who knows....
