Haven't Wizards just done a creature like this (except a 3/3 for 1 mana more, draw a card and lose a life for each Zombie)?

I think I'd rather have the 3/3 for 4 mana than a 1/1 for 3 mana. Making it a 1/1 for 2 mana is probably too good (better than Phyrexian Arena?), as the ability is a lot more powerful than the creature. Phyrexian Rager is a 2/2 for 3 mana that gives you the card and the life loss right away. Those too are probably better than your 1/1 for 3 mana. Perhaps if your card gave you a card and life loss when it CIP and when it leaves play. That would actually be pretty strong but probably OK as Solumn Simulacrum exists.

Hmm. I'd forgotten about the zombie. maybe BB so it's not splashable?

1BB for a 2/2 that potences for 1 when it CIP and leaves play?

I actually meant 2B for your 1/1 but with CIP and LP draw a card and lose 1 life. If you can get rid of it (ideally for some gain) that is still 2 cards and 2 life in addition to the creature.

Making it a 2/2 makes it strictly better than the Rager and I consider Rager a good card (think of it as Night's Whisper but you pay 1 colourless to play one of the 2 cards you draw as a 2/2).

I think that this needs to cost at least {3}{B}. It's definitely better than [card]Phyrexian Arena[/card] and probably worse than [card]Graveborn Muse[/card]. Note that the Muse is theoretically better but can also kill you pretty darned quickly if you're not careful with it.

You should be able to combine those abilities.

This still seems quite a bit better than Phyrexian Rager. For {1} more, you're getting the same creature with the added benefit of a card when it does. On the other hand, I see this card as an uncommon, which would put it at a midpoint in utility between Phyrexian Rager and Solemn Simulacrum. I also would not mind seeing it cost {4}{B} and being a 3/1 creature.

Possible names:
Necrotic Familiar (Creature -- Zombie)
Recluse Familiar (Creature -- Spider)
Mephidross Toad (Creature -- Zombie Toad)
flavour text: Like their frogmite cousins, the toads of Mephidross preyed on blinkmoths. The Moriok knew of techniques to extract viable lymph from the toads' tainted flesh.

Zombie Toads cannot block creatures from Portal

Ephraim - How does a Graveborn Muse kill you? If you draw a shedload more cards than an opponent and still fail to win, you deserve to die. I play Muse in friggin multiplayer and you just need a few Drain Life effects to make survival a reasonably likely scenario.
