I was honestly about to post the same topic, but you beat me to it.
This is unbelievable to say the least. I finally have a P9 that isn't 7 hours away from where I live, and I'm stoked. I need to get to work with persuading my friends to come along too, but I am already looking forward to good times. We are all in debt to SCG and those who make these tournaments possible for their devotion to Vintage.
Props to all of you here.

This is incredible. Team GWS plans to do at least as well as they did at the previous Chicago event, if not much, much better.

Oh man, those tourney dates are tailor made to not fit my schedule. I'm so glad they're having them though. SCG is now officially my favorite online dealer ever; It's like Vintage is a sanctioned format now but with proxies. Huzzah.

If successful, which no doubt it will be, how will this affect WOTC and their involvement in Type 1? Will they allow a certain amount of proxies for sanctioned events? Will that then cause the price of power to drop? Unlikely in my opinion, but certainly WOTC will take some notice.

I've suggested that they allow $1 extra proxies. Anyone else think this is a good idea? Anyone else want to suggest it also? Free money for SCG and essentially no extra work or anything.
Dude-Team GWS is the team of the midwest. We got 2 in the top 8 this time.

You would need to get your proxies right from SCG with a stamp on them officializing them or people would just put a few more proxies in and not care about paying. It's kind of a hassle...
I've gotta say that Pete's extensive thank-you list reinforced what a class act SCG is. I'm looking forward to these tournaments!
This leads us to the next question: what will be the next superteam? Shortbus is Mid-Atlantic and Meandeck is NE and Midwest. Who will take the crown of the Chicago/Wisconsin metagame? What team will make the new tech? Who do we gun for? Time will tell!

you know i hate to admit this Hi-Val, considering I'm definitely NOT on their team... nor would i ever be asked to, or want to be... but Team GWS is the dominant team in this area Currently.
who knows, maybe The increase in these larger Vintage events will bring an increase in compitition? Maybe more teams will show their heads?
who knows, all i say is bring it... it's great having so many big tournaments to look forward to!

I've been to tourneys that do that-it takes like an extra 10 sec a registration. A bit of an exaggeration but it's really not that big of a deal.

I suggested on SCG that they start up a sort of "shadow rating" for these events. They'd just have to process all the results and start everyone out at 1600.
In any case, these tournaments will be unbelievably awesome. I can't wait to attend like a half dozen or more huge tournaments next year.

It's not a matter of registration but game play - most cards, you can't really tell what it is and you have to ask all the time. For most cards, if I wasn't exactly sure of the wording, I'm going to call a judge over for the exact oracle text. Having more than 10 proxies (in people's decks, not just as a rule) seems like it will cause a big strain on gameplay and judging.

Thanks Pete!

Starcity is quite amazing but I think the fact that their is not one on the west coast is very sad as their are vintage tournaments over here to.

I imagine they kept away from the West coast, despite there being some players out there, because it's significantly less likely to attract the East coast players that Chicago is close enough for. I was amazed that Chicago got more players than Richmond, actually. The best thing you can do is have tournaments large enough to get in my results out there, so Pete knows there's interest!
Even my truant self is gonna have to make it to one or two of those Chicago events. This is amazing.

I would say that there are more than "some" players out here, and even anywhere else in the country. There are none scheduled west of chicago, or south of virginia. That's 3/4 of the country not represented.
We had 112 people at Magic Worlds in San Franciso. Granted some were from Europe, but the rest didn't drive across the country to play type 1 for a lotus and ancestral. They came from the area. If you bring the event and the prizes, the players will come.
We'll just have to organize our own events. Why go to the east coast and play against sub-par opponents, when we have challengers here. And besides, the east coasters are too afraid to come out here, too many thugs and donkeys.
We'll have "JACO's a Bitch P9 Tournaments"

basically we don't go to the west coast because it isn't worth it. the midwest and east coast have Waterbury, Hadley, Gencon, Star City... We have enough to play without having to drive through very rough country just to play in the west.

seriously, you just need a distributor/dealer in Europe willing to put forth the effort - look at the sites in spain and italy that routinely get 150+ for SANCTIONED (e.g. non-proxy) events, and the many in Germany/Netherlands that consistently get 40 for the same. Think what it would do if there were proxies and heavily promoted!?!

If this does actually turn into something close to sanctioned, there's one clear way of fixing the limited power supply: give non-transferrable power. If someone gets a high enough "rating," they get SCG power with the "SCG number" (as opposed to DCI #) of the player who won them. So in effect, these could be champs cards with clout.

What team will make the new tech? Who do we gun for? Time will tell! I think I can make it to two of the Chicago ones, and, hypothetically, I'll have introduced my roommate to the game and tested like crazy with him and possibly his brother. Then Team me and my roommate and possibly his brother will be unstoppable. Possibly, I'll even buy some cards and make a deck.
