Lay Claim X1UU Instant Gain control of target artifact with converted mana cost X or less.
This basically just came out of brainstorming effects that would be good in Type 4. Mirrodin brought a lot of cards that mirrored earlier cards, except did it for artifacts (Thought Dissector, Acquire, etc.) This, obviously, mirrors Dominate.
The name seems a bit white to me, but that's not exactly my forte. Also, there is a lot of room for flavor text. Thoughts?
//CURRENT WORDING// Lay Claim X1UU Instant Gain control of target artifact with converted mana cost X or less. What's mine is mine, and what's yours is, well, mine.
EDIT 1: Changed name EDIT 2: Changed name back EDIT 3: Added tentative flavor text of my own design. EDIT 4: The two dots were a typo, but was changed to a comma.

It would be funny to call this "Patent".

I agree, and I don't think it crosses the line.
EDIT: I suppose I should await further opinion before changing the name.

I like Lay Claim better than Patent. Patent seems too real world-ish.
I like this. I was going to say that this is a lot like Domineer, but then I realized this took artifacts as well as artifact creatures.

Technically, an ellispsis is used to indicate an omission of words or letters, not a pause, as so many people are wont to use it for.

I don't see why this has to mirror dominate exactly. The cost could be lower. Like 1UX or maybe even UX
Look at Control Magic and Bribery. Their artifact counterparts haven't seen nearly as much play as these have in the past.

I know this won't happen in a tournament, but if my opponent has Chaos Orb in his hand while I'm controlling his turn from a Mindslaver, who flips the card if I force him to play it and activate it?

Upinthe, that is arguably because artifacts are customarily less common, but more powerful than creatures, meaning that even if you're getting a lower-quality card from Bribery or Control Magic, they're more likely to get you something, whereas it wouldn't be unheard of for Steal Artifact or Acquire to have no targets at all. If they do have targets, those targets are likely to be far better than the targets of Bribery or Control Magic. That said, I think that this is appropriately costed. For the record, I also prefer "Lay Claim" over "Patent."

Did you know that Red is the color or art and music and passion? Combine that with Green, the color of nature, spiritualism, and community and you get a hippie commune of drum circles, dreamcatchers, and recreational drug use. Let's see that win a Pro Tour.

This obviously isn't overpowered, and I agree with Ephraim that it isn't underpowered (plus it's prettier at X1UU ), and everyone seems to be fine with the name and flavor text, so 24hr Clock
