I'm home for the holidays, and finally have access to filesharing again! I've been whoring songs all break, and I want to know what TMDers listen to as well. Here's the deal: post three songs, no more, no less, and why you like them. Any genre-- Trip-hop, Dirty South, New Wave, Classical. I'll start: Beulah - "A Good Man Is Easy To Kill" - With ambient horns and a bouncy rhythm, this song plays whimsically over the somewhat dark lyrics. If you like Cake or Cracker, give them a look. Jay Z Vs. Weezer - "Surf Wax Off Your Shoulder" - Get it here. You'll be amazed how well it works. Combining two of my all-time favorite acts and meshing them. Nerd rock + gangsta rap = something so fresh. Dogs Die In Hot Cars - "I Love You Because I Have To" - Winning the best band title ever. An atypical indie song with pangs of pop through it. It is somewhat mainstream sounding, but it rewards with a catchy chorus. The music video is pretty sweet as well.

Beborn Beton's Peach - Beborn Beton is a gothy synthpop sound, that performs numbers in both german and english. In general their lyrics match the gothy background, but occasionally they do some pieces a little lighter. The chorus line of this song gets stuck in my head a lot.
The Bouncing Souls' Kids and Heroes - The band is a pretty typical punk band as far as I know, but this particular song is considerably more catchy and easy to listen to than most punk I've heard.
The Magnetic Fields' Yeah, Oh Yeah - The Magnetic Fields are a very bizarre sort of pseudo-folk sound, usually based in comedy. I was hooked on them since Syracuse 2, when I was exposed to them via TMD's wicketsnatcher. This particular track is something you just have to listen to to appreciate.

Slapshot - "The Day My Thoughts Turned To Murder" - Slapshot is simply the best hardcore band in the world, period. This song is the embodiment of aggression. You haven't lived if you haven't been an a mosh pit during this one. Boehse Onkelz - "Gehasst, Verdammt, Vergoettert" - The triumphant return of this German, repentant former neo-nazi band. Having turned from punk to rock, this song is a big 'fuck you' to the bonehead scene they turned their backs to. They have suffered for their past sins, and this song is an atonement as well a raw hardrock anthem reminiscent of Metallica of yore. Unpolished, and from the heart. Peter Pan Speedrock - "Premium Quality (Serve Loud)" - A rauchy speedrock band from Eindhoven Rock City. This particualr song is original, catchy: it is an instant sing-a-long in the best tradition of Motorhead's Ace of Spades.

The Allman Brothers Band - Mountain Jam (specifically from the Fillmore East, the 33 minute version). This song is over half of an hour of raw talent. Duane Allman is insanely good.
Led Zeppelin - Black Dog. I wanted to include something from How the West Was Won, because it's so good. I happen to be listening to Black Dog right now, and it's great, just like the whole CD.
Ten Years After - I'd Love to Change the World. This is probably my favorite song on the Essential Ten Years After CD.

Explosions in the Sky: "This quartet of Texas kids was signed for its first release on Temporary Residence Limited after half a listen to their demo, which was submitted by the American Analog Set with a brief note saying "This totally fucking destroys."" The song to get: "Have You Passed Through This Night?" Do Make Say Think: "Only the finest instrumental rock from this Toronto group. DMST distill jazz, dub, psych, & pop influences into a restorative tonic of their own. Anchored in strong melodic & harmonic currents, these records pulse with life & float on glistening waves of sound." The song to get: "Soul and Onward" Dirty Three: Guitar, drum, violin. Melancholy instrumental rock. The song to get: "Remember a Time When I Used to Love You"

1) Petey Pablo - Freak-a-leek: Obvious reasons....
2) Tupac - Soon as I get home: Quite possibly the BEST tupac song EVER. Props to those who know what I'm talkin' bout.
3) Stevie Wonder - I believe when I fall in love this time it'll be forever: Yeah, I'm whipped...
But seriously, my taste in music changes by mood. These are probably my fav. 3 songs at the moment.

Damn, you only want 3 songs? I just organized most of my music, and I was so happy to re-discover some old songs which I had just laying around in archive CD's. I could post a fairly substantial list here which would keep you occupied for a fair bit, but I'll honor your request and post 3 which you MUST DOWNLOAD NOW OR SATAN WILL EAT YOUR SOUL.Terry Bones - Closed Minds : This is pure trance. Awesome snowboarding music. I feel it's a good song to introduce someone to trance and electronica in general because it's not cheesy shit like Robert Miles. Excellent buildup/breakdown, easy to get a natural high off this. It's in my top 10, near the middle (don't know where exactly). KRWLNG - Aaron Lewis (#20 on Linkin Park Reanimation CD) : It's amazing how all the different sounds blend together. I love Linkin Park for the fact they are the only group I've heard to combine elements of Rap, Electronica, and Rock together without sounding like total shit. This song is a solid "#2" on my all time favorite song list. Orbital - Halcyon On and On : My favorite ch00n of all time. You may have heard this song in Hackers, and in Mortal Kombat, and maybe elsewhere. It's basically just...perfect. When I first REALLY listened to this song, I had it on for 3 days straight. It's a chill type of song, so don't try and listen to it in the gym or go jogging to it. If you find some quiet time to yourself, just play this in the background.

I'll have to do some downloading...
Anyway, off the top of my head, 3 different songs from 3 different bands with very different styles.
The Sins of Thy Beloved - Forever. I'd rather let Darren comment on this.
Nada Surf - Slow Down. Indie/Alternative stuff. I usually preffer listening to Reggie and the Full Effect, but I've been finding myself listening to this more and more.
Austin TV - Les choses sont bizarre. This is actually a mexican band. A mexican indie/instrumental/experimental rock band. I find them quite awesome.

Pearl Jam - Alive (from album "Ten"). It's my favourite song from Pearl Jam and I'm a great fan of their style, especially the singer's voice. The 1mn30 guitar solo at the end of the song is awesome.
Therion - Clavicula Nox (album "Vovin"). Symphonic metal, good guitar, good chorus and a really nice rythm. The album is great overall, especially the songs Birth of Venus Illegitima and Eye of Shiva.
Rage of the Machine - Killing in the name. Yeah, this happens...

Orbital - Halcyon On and On My favorite Orbital song would be The Box. Oh, I've also been listening to a lot of Gwar. Thought I should throw that out there. They are really good actually. Here are mine: KMFDM - WWIII - The pulsing beats of this song are just energizing and fast. The lyrics are a scathing review of current events as an added bonus. Lil Jon and the Eastside Boys - Get Crunk - I'm not really into any rap past the 1993 mark, but Lil Jon is just awesome. He doesn't rap, those auxilary guys do that for him, he just screams at you in a way that makes you hyper. Skinny Puppy - Immortal - I loved hearing these guys makes such a kick ass album after being broken up for so long (and one member being dead). This song is a great continuation from The Process which was the last Album they did.

Well, what a pleasant topic. I merely couldnt resist, especially since I have done little but listen to music lately:
1. Deadboy and the Elephantmen: Barefoot in the Dark (um... ambient rock? I dont even know what to call this... from the album "If this is Hell then I am Lucky")
2. Amber Asylum: Silence of the Setting Sun (ambient... from "Supernatural Parlor Collection")
3. Superjoint Ritual: Fuck Your Enemy (metal... more my kind of thing. From the album "Use once and Destroy")

In no particular order:
1) Amon Tobin - Reanimator. This song gets my mood up in no time.
2) Oribtal - Meltdown. This changes from time to time. But you can expect them to be in my top 3 list with something anytime. (The Box is superb. You have to listen to the extended (28 minutes or so) version!)
3) Rammstein - Mein Teil. Increadible how they still have that sound and keep it fresh.
These can change though. But that's my taste right now.

Hrmm.... 3 songs. This one is tough.
Well, 'tis the season and all so I'll start with a mention of my favorite bit of Christmas music, the Trans-Siberian Orchestra's Christmas Eve (Sarajevo 12/24). Anyone who has heard this will understand. The orchestra rumbles to back up the electric guitar, and it crescendoes to a great climax. I only wish it was longer than it is.
Since the more mainstream stuff is generally obvious and I can always count on Zherbus to give KMFDM a mention, I guess I'll go a bit more obscure now and mention Origa's Rise. Origa is a Latvian women who sings mostly in Latvian, which is crazy sexy. Rise is a lot more techno-y than most of her stuff, but has a great rythym and feels invigorating.
Lastly something mellow, The Delgados- The Light Before We Land. This is a beautiful and soothing song, with a marvelous, almost haunting melody.

Last 3 songs I listened to:
A Perfect Circle - Brena : I had to go back to the APC classics seeing as how their last album hasn't rubbed off on me. I've listened to it quite a few times, and I was hoping it would grow on me, but I've decided that I just don't like it (well, the majority of it).
Metallica - The Four Horsemen: The more I hear nu-metal, the more I appreciate old school Metallica.
Led Zeppelin - Ramble On : One of my favourite "happy" songs.

The new Perfect Circle CD just seems to be missing something from their other efforts, I have to say I was a bit underwhelmed by it. However, I love their remix cd.
What I've listened to recently the most:
Johnny Cash--unEarthed. For some reason, the holiday season just seems to make me want to listen to the Man in Black and this boxed set has a wealth of amazing material on it. From Witchita Lineman, to Pocahontas, to Gentle on my Mind, it is a fantastic collection of music.

Posted for WildWillieWonderboy, his opinions, not mine (though I agree with some of them!): Metallica: So What. This is a cover off the 5.98 Garage Days release (re-released on Garage inc.). The original band was Anti-Nowhere League, a Scottish metal band. This song is just hillarious; F-bombs x 12, total foulmouthery=19
RATM: No Shelter. The best song they ever made and no one knows about it because it was only on the Godzilla soundtrack and the Live at the Olympic release.
Public Enemy ft. Anthrax: Bring Tha Noise. Limp Bizkit and someone else tried to cover this and failed miserably. This is already a solid jam, but it seems that Anthrax is >>>> Bomb Squad
LINKIN PARK SUCKS BALLS. They are the absolute lowest common denominator of shitty music: bad lines, bad rhymes, all whines. Listen to Ben Folds Rockin' the Suburbs. If he could be singing about a band you like, kill yourself.

narrowing it down to just 3 songs is hella tough, but i guess the 3 i've listened to the most of late are:
1) Masters of War - Warren Haynes, Ray LaMontagne, Ben Ottewell and Jerry Joseph 9/19/04
2) In-a-gadda-da-vida - Iron Butterfly (this entire album is really great and I highly recommend it)
3) Nothing Too Fancy - Umphreys McGee (any live version)
And since I cant stop at 3, add in anything by The Darkness, Lil Jon, Pearl Jam and Tool.
@EITD: Dude, how does your list not have any goatwhore in it?

1. Burnt (Bile). Very intense, heavy industrial track that can always be counted on to get my adrenaline going. Great gym music. 2. Die Dead Enough (Megadeth). I've been a huge fan of this group for some time now and just recently found out that they'd gotten back together and put out a new album, "The System Has Failed". This is my favorite song of the bunch. 3. Shadow of the Sun (Audioslave). It really makes you appreciate how gifted Chris Cornell is and the lyrics are great. Collateral was a movie I enjoyed anyway but with this song in the soundtrack, it was easily my favorite movie released this year .

Kudos to everyone for keeping a discussion about music flame-free. Talking about music on the internet seems to draw flames like abortion and politics. If I must pick 3... Sevendust - Trust: From their album called Animosity, this song rocks. I'm always in a mood to listen to Sevendust. Killswitch Engage - Breathe Life: I heard this song from the UFC's Greatest Hits Vol. 1, which is basically a compilation of music to listen to while beating the piss outta someone. Everlast featuring Santana - Babylon: I've always liked Everlast's growly voice... and Santana is the fucking man. It can be found on Everlast's CD called "Eat at Whitey's". Note: I love Jay-Z and like the bands he has done these strange mix pieces with. I loathe the combinations... they just sound absolutely terrible to me.

Defiance, Ohio - Road Signs Always Look Better Looking Over Your Shoulder. Props to anyone who knows this band. They're my friends, real big in a certain underground music scene, and, overall, incredible. They could be famous but they'd rather do it themselves. You can download all thier songs at http://www.defianceohio.terrorware.com. They're folk/punk - like older Against Me! but better (because they have violin and cello and sometimes banjo). I particularly like this song because its helped me get through school a number of times. The Smiths - Still Ill. I'm not sure what to say about The Smiths besides that they're simply amazing and really important. Still Ill is my favorite song because it mixes cynicism, depression, insight, and some optimism to boot. I think it's a song for all moods. Ghost Mice - Racecar Driver. The Ghost Mice are acoustic punk or something like that. The first time I heard this band I saw them live and this song was so amazing that it almost made me cry afterwards. The Ghost Mice are one of those bands where you hear them and then you buy their whole discography (which you can get at http://www.plan-it-x.com). If you download all the Defiance, Ohio stuff and you're in love with it like me you should check this band out. Props to Matt on Dirty Three - the self titled is one of my favorite songs to make out, etc to.
