I was recently looking at all the decks in the current t1 meta, Oath, Stax, Slaver, Tog, Long (whether its TPS/Death/whatever), Grow, and some random Fish/Green/Red Stompy/Beatz.  Well, I was thinking what can beat all these?  A very good lock deck, and what better lock deck than a stax variant.  Why do we even need welders to play the switcharoo games?  Why not just add more lock components?  We have plenty.  So without further a do, the decklist:

Lock (23)
4 3Sphere
4 Sphere of Resistance
3 Crucible of Worlds
4 Smokestack
4 Tangle Wire
4 Chalice of the Void

Arti-Mana (13)
9 SoloMoxLotiVaultCrypt
4 Metal Worker

Draw (6)
2 Mindstorm Crown
4 Grafted Skullcap

Kill (5)
4 Mishra's Factory
1 Karn, Silver Golem

Mana (13)
4 Workshop
4 Ancient Tomb
4 Wasteland
1 Strip Mine

Side Board
4 Uba Mask (vs Control, there goes counterspells)
4 Force field (stops Oath in there tracks)
4 Caltrops (stops fish and Oath, attack with the tokens they give you etc)
3 Powder Keg/3 Serrated Arrows (welders)

This beats combo, after siding beats oath, and easily beats aggro of most types.  It's only problems are 4cc, BBS, and the mirror (i.e. stacks), mainly depending on who drops a lock peice first etc.

It's easy to play, fun, and does well without welder.  Try it. Smile

1) Welders allow for an even stronger lock than without welder. For example, you can weld out your tangle wire on his end step and have access to plenty of mana on your turn, before you weld it back in at the end of your own turn. There are plenty of plays like this.

2) Welder improves the mirror greatly. Welders weld out their lock components. They also provide protection when an opponent tries the same trick.

3) You can weld something back into play that you discarded to your skullcap.

4) Welder baits out counterspells, as it is a must counter, especially early in the game.

5) There is no reason not to play it. T2 Ravager doesn't need aether vial, but there is absolutely no reason not to play it.

Hope this helped.

*The main problem of Mono Brown Decks are that they all loose to Mana Dran.If they cast something really explosive on turn 1(3Sphere,Worker)then on turn 2 something important is going to be drained and in your oppenents turn he will cast cast Cunning Wish and then RnR/ArtMut you or he will cast his Intuition followed by Oath/Ak or he will simply just slave you.At this moment your oppenent should win the game, if nothing goes wrong.

*I suggest Rishadan Port as an answer to Mana Drain. Also he has a great Synergy with Crucible and under Tangle Wire its even better.

*You have a lot of Mana Ressources, you could fit some Sundering Titans in the List, they are sooo good(and they wonīt kill a single land of yours).

*Donīt run 4 Grafted Skullcaps.3 Seems to be a good number because you donīt wanna draw dead cards and if you donīt have a Worker out Grafted wonīt be that good anyway(allthough he would be really good with Welder)

*UBA Mask simply doesnīt house control. At the casting cost of 4 it can be countered with ease and even if you resolve it a good control deck will play around it(in other words it will just kill you without actually caring about your card advantage)

*Caltrops doesīt do anything against Oath.A good Oath Player will tap his Orchard eot.

*Mindstorm Crown is too situational, but actually I have not tested it yet so maybe it might be quite good with Skullcap and Worker.

*Against Oath the best Card, that would fit into your deck, would be Duplicant or Claws of Gix.

*I am not sure but in the "MWS-Prison" Mirror I would rather cast Worker instead of a lock piece. At least that was the Experience I had with MUD Mirrors.

I hope I could help you and I apologize for my bad english  Very Happy

If you're sticking to monobrown, then I would look up MudDomination.  If you don't like that deck, then I would at the very least run Welders.

Regardless of whatever else you choose to do to this deck, at least -for the love of god- put an academy in the list.  I'm going to turn around now, and you should just go ahead and slip that into the decklist.  We'll all just pretend it was a mistake and it was always supposed to be there.

Also, without welders, I'd suggest mind's eye over the skullcaps.  They let you do almost the same thing, except you don't have to discard your hand.  when you don't have welders, discarding your gand is a bad thing.

Also, try on snake basket as an alternate kill condition.  If not because you produce stupid amounts of mana and it wins on the spot, then just because it's icked cool.

Ok, I dont like any of that stuff as a draw engine, I like [card]Well of Knowledge[/card] . This card is absolutely nuts with metalworker. You should give it a spin.

other than looking somewhat sub-par, I would also highly suggest looking into either hypermud or muddomination decklist.

also, please note that eon hub is the ultimate mono brown sidebord card. it kills oath (if you can resolve it before they get to oath), stax (meditate never looked so bad), energy flux and serenity (!).
