Naked Singularity Artifact Cumulative Upkeep If tapped for mana, Plains produce , Islands produce , Swamps produce , Mountains produce , and Forests produce instead of their normal type. How effective could this card be, while complemented (overshadowed?) by Sundering Titan? It seems that this might be a bit expensive for even Workshop decks, especially with the upkeep; but with Goblin Welder, is there a possibility for it to be useful?

Perhaps you sould clarify on the interaction between Sindering Titan and Naked Singularity, because I think you are mistaken or I am missing something. Naked Singularity doesn't change the type of the land, merely what color mana it produces.

What I meant by that is, with both, you have two ways to attack basics and duals; then, by running a different manabase, you can protect yourself from its effects.
THe biggest problem, of course, is the card's upkeep - you'll need a constant stream of artifacts or you'll have to be able to weld it out and then back in every turn, which just seems unreliable.
Additionally, with duals, their controller still has a choice between two different colors, but since no two colors "exchange," this shouldn't be too great of a problem.

If you have that supply of +1 artifact/turn, you could just be winning outright by replacing the Singularity with Mindslaver (since you're assuming you have an active Welder as well).

That's true, which is why that's a bad way to go. Is there any other way to make sure it sticks around?

One of the big problems with it is that most decks are running Volcanic Island now, which gives them a source of blue mana, and hence, a way to answer Singularity. Isn't there another card like Singularity that has a similar effect? I think it was in blue... Anyway, there are a few other cards like Naked, such as Hall of Gemstone, that just push the border of playability.

@Hi-Val
That would be Reality Twist, which doesn't hit Islands.
Other noncreature mana-skew cards:
Contamination Pale Moon Conversion Glaciers Blood Moon Infernal Darkness Chaos Moon Ritual of Subdual

I could see singularity seeing play MAYBE with metalworker, because you can pay the upkeep once or twice with just that guy alone. My mono-brown prison deck has been toying with Naked Singularity + Eon Hub in the sideboard, but since most decks in the milwaukee/chicago area play MWS.dec, it just didn't seam like that good of an option.

Cumulative upkeep uses age counters. Power Conduit can keep the upkeep down to a more reasonable 3/turn.

Cumulative upkeep uses age counters. Power Conduit can keep the upkeep down to a more reasonable 3/turn. Too bad it can't put fading counters back on Tangle Wire. Giant Fan... ? Seriously, though, what would you use the counters for? Or would Conduit simply be a dead card until you drew Singularity? Eon Hub is an interesting choice to go along with it because it shuts down opposing prison and Oath decks at the same time - but then Naked Singularity becomes more of a win-more card. The rest of the cards look inefficient. Reality Twist costs triple-blue and has a double-blue cumulative upkeep, ignores Islands, and "switches" several types; Contamination requires a creature per turn to sacrifice; Pale Moon is Pale Moon; Conversion and Glaciers only affect mountains and force white to be played in some degree; Blood Moon already sees some play and affects only nonbasic lands; etc, etc.

what about hall of gemstone? I really cant think of anything too usefull to do with it, maybe in a 3-4 colored deck, like tog, 4cc or Gat, but idk if it would be worth it to shut both players blue down, and then another random color. and against artifacts, its hard to be that useful. Not to mention that it is hard to pklay iin an artifaact deck due to the double green in the cc.

Hall of Gemstone was used in ProBloom decks right before City of Solitude was printed because you could name something other than blue and then the opponent couldn't counter anything. It has a nice little side-effect.
