Thats right, 2 Type 1 tournaments in the same weekend in a small town in Northern Arizona.  Flagstaff makes it big Type 1 debut with this weekend of exciting tournaments.  If they do well, be sure to watch as we bring more and more to Northern Arizona (such as a PSAQ in Feb & probably another Power tournament).

The first tournament, on Jan 22, 2005 will be held at Little Shop of Magic (www.shopofmagic.com), which will be a PSA Invitational qualifier (PSAQ) tournament in order to win an invite to the PSA Invitational.  At the PSA invetational, first place walks away with a PSA 10 Mox Sapphire.  Want a lotus instead, I am sure you can find someone to trade.

PSAQ tournament
Jan 22
$12
10 proxy
6 swiss rounds
Noon

The Second tournament will be helod on Jan 23, 2005, as the other local gaming store competes, not wanting to be trumped by the competition.  It will be held at Over Lord Games (www.overlordgames.com).  This will be for an Unlimited Mox Jet!  If a lot of players show up, Overloard will hold more, at cheaper prices.  I am currently lobbying to get it down to $15.

Mox Jet tournament
Jan 23
$20
10 proxies
5 swiss rounds + cut to T8
Noon

Come for one, stay for both.  Walk away with a new Mox Jet, as well as an invite to the PSA Invitational for your shot to win a Gam Mint Mox Sapphire (or for second & thirds, a Mox Jet / Beta twister).

directions to Flagstaff

East or West, drive on the I-40 to the I-17, take it north.  The I-17 dead ends directly into town.

South, drive north on the I-17 until you hit Flagstaff.  Can't miss it.

If you need more info, or special directions, I will get them for you.  PM me or you can call me on my phone.

Moved to tourney. -DrS[/color]

It all began the night before, then JPeter (Ordomagus), along with Snow, Tony, and Miki came up from Tucsan. I was just about to be heading to grab a beer & some OJ & the like, and they decided to show up a couple hours before I expected them. Oh well.

So we have a couple few drinks, build decks, laugh, then crash. I still don't know what deck to play, so I end up building a deck I had been fiddling with for a while, 5 tinker, as Miki got me SU-Chi's cheaply in Tuscan. I do admire these pretties.

We head to get an oversized breakfast & gorge ourselves before heading to the tournament. Mike & Rhonda's The Place has the biggest fuckign biscuts you will ever see. Well, I guess they aren't biscuts & gravy as much (to quote JPeter) as Loaves of break & Gravy. Still good. Lots of coffee is Savage.

We finally make it to the tournament, where we hang otu until it starts. We get a disappointing turnout as it is also the Pre-release tournament (stupid pre-release. Who would rather go to play in sealed events when you can play type 1). I smile, and go about registering my deck. Now I went to Mana Drain and grabbed the first list, which I promptly goldfished 3 or 4 times, liked it, and put it in the box.

1 Mox Ruby
1 Mox Emerald
1 Mox Jet
1 Mox Pearl
1 Mox Saphire
1 Mana Crypt
1 Black Lotus
1 Sol Ring
1 Manavault
2 Gilded Lotus
4 Volcanic Island
3 Island
2 Wasteland
1 Strip Mine
1 Tolarian Academy
4 Mishra's Workshop
3 Flooded Strand
4 thirst for Knowledge
1 Memory jar
1 Ancestral Recall
1 Platinum Angel
1 Sundering Titan
1 Triskelion
1 Crucible of Worlds
4 Goblin Welder
4 Su-Chi
4 Transmute Artifact
1 Tinker
2 Fire/Ice
1 Mindslaver
1 Time Walk
4 Brainstorm

SB
4 Trinisphere
2 Jester's Cap
3 Lava Dart
1 Crucible of Worlds
Trike
Duplicant
Pentavus

and I can't remember what else. Prolly something useless that I never used.

Rnd 1 - Sherman w/WW Clerics

Game 1 - I get to a slow start, getting nothing of value while he beats me with clerics (Oh, the shame). I end up hardcasting Plat, beating for a couple, and under a JAr, he ends up disenchanting the Plat with me at negative live & no welder in sight.

Game 2 - I can't remember exactly what I did, but I caught him with his pants down in a slaver lock, using a bus I had in the board.

Game 3 - I keep everything the same, and watch as he does nothing first turn. I drop Trini, followed by crucible strip, and ride it out, with him never doing anything. I explain the situation, and he scoops for the 2-1 to me.

Matches 1-0, games 2-1

Rnd 2 - Miki w/ 5/3 Stacker

I sit down across from Miki for round 2, and we boths mile, knowing each other's decks. His 5/3 stacker build vs my 5 tinker. This is as close to the mirror here as I can expect.

Game 1 - He comes out with a first turn juggie. I drop a su-chi, but eat the burn when I have to block, dropping me to 1, and I am unable to make anything happen.

Game 2 goes much the same way.

Matches 1-1, games 2-3

Rnd 3 - Mike w/ Blue/White Scepter control

Game 1 - I get a first turn Su-chi, ride it for a turn, then magically, it turns into a titan for the win.

Game 2 - he decides to play, and does nothing. I drop a Su-chi, followed by a second one, and a welder, and ride for the win

Matches 2-1, games 5-3

Round 4 - I draw with my teammate Peter, running Drain Slaver, so we relax for an hour.

Matches 2-1-1, games 5-3

T8 - Miki with 5/3 Again

I sit down across from Miki, and we laugh, ready to play again. Infact, game 1 goes a hell of a lot like the previous 2 we did. I decide to do something risky, and bring in some fun creatures, like Memnarch, trike, duplicant. I also bring in caps for welders.

Game 2 - I come out firing with a first turn welder. He doesn't do to much of anything, so welder beats happen, followed by a turn 2 Su-Chi, killed by myself so I can get Memnarch into play, which gets met by a duplicant which gets met by my own duplicant whiel I ride a duplicanted Dupe, 2 Su-Chi's, & something else to victory.

Game 3 - I leave my deck along, and he starts with a Cityt of Brass, I immediatly waste it. That was t
he last colored mana he got all game.I end up delta, whoel bunch of moxen, workshop, and ride a SU-Chi & Memnarch to victory.

Matches 3-1-1, Games 7-4

T4 - Ryan w/ Gay/R Fish

Game 1 - ends up me using a fetch twice while I ride a couple Su-chi's & I think a trike to victory

Game 2 - he actually hurts me & I use a fetch. Wow, 18 again. I Ride what looks like Welder + Su-chi for the win.

Matches 4-1-1, games 9-4

Finals - Jeff w/ 2 land belcher

Game 1 - I get a first turn welder, and pass the turn. He does likewise, but drops a couple artifacts. He passes, and I just play a land, pass back. On his turn, he Demonic Tutors, then cracks LED to put a belcher in the yard. HE targets belcher with welder, but then I target a chorme mox, so he gets a chrome moxe instead of the belcher. He burns for 3. I keep my welder unstapped, and keep dropping a bunch of stuff, finally finding a fire to kill the damend welder. The next turn I drop a Titan and ride Titan/welder beats for the win.

I board in a trike, 4 trinispheres, 2 Caps.

Game 2 - He combos before I can do anything of importance Both lands in his draw is savage.

Game 3 - I am on the play, and my first turn goes Workshop, Mana Crypt, Gilded Lotus, Trinisphere. Turn 2 goes Welder. Turn 3 does soemthing stupid, and I end up transmuting a Su-Chi for a Plat the same turn I play the Su-Chi. He promptly enters his scoop phase

I take 18 packs of betrayers, but more importanatly, the invite. Jeff takes 12 packs, and Tony takes 6.

Report on the other one coming.
