Well, I am gettign sick of playing some form of aggro or combo of decks, so I decided to try out some Trix (XD)

I do have some concerns with the deck and the Metagame here, it is very control and aggro heavy, with me and one other being the only regular combo players, I usually plat FCG or Dragon, my friend usually plays Longdeath or Belcher.

Search
4 Accumulated Knowledge
4 Brainstorm
1 Yawgmoths Bargain
1 Necropotence (This and Yawg's Bargain work insanely well with Illusions)
1 Demonic Tutor
1 Vampiric Tutor

Disruption and Control
4 Duress ( protect the Comboish elements)
4 Force of Will
4 Mana Leak (Thanks Willow Wisperer!!!)
4 Chain of Vapors (Took out Cabal Theraby for them, thanks Wyvern_

Combo
3 Illusions of Grandeur
3 Donate

Mana Acceleration
1 Lotus Petal
1 Sol Ring
1 Chrome Mox (Switch this out for Diamond?)
4 Dark Ritual

Random
1 Yawgmoth's Will (Good for snatching back a combo piece or Ritual for Bargain)

Mana
4 Wastelands (A good number of people play with non basics here)
4 Polluted Delta
1 Strip Mine
4 Underground Sea
3 Island
3 Swamp

Sideboard
I havent fleshed this out yet, but it will probally contain Powder Kegs for the the Agrro decks, hell, my friends girlfriend has a green stompy that kills on turn 2, BEB and Hydro Blast for the Fish and RDW, mabey T crypt, and finally Chills and Hibernates.

I am concerned on how well it would perform in the meta here. I know if can't out control my friends Mono Blue control, but it should do well versus the rest since they are all blue and some other color splashed.

Definately splash the mana leak instead, it is a much better counter that counterspell.

And what is the combo? just kind of hope to play them? The only viable ways that I see them getting out is mono blue mana drain, which may be good because it would be like mono blue without out the morphling.

That could put a hose on the aggro decks because you gain a huge life advantage could fend them off until their unfortunate demise.

The only other way that would be any good to get it out would be rectors. cabal therapy makes everyone cry, and then again so does yawgmoths bargain. but the thing is, with that you win so much better without the trix.

So the coolest way I can think of to do is to use mana drain, so that you can run tons of cool things like flux and stuff.

Naw, I am set on the U/B trix. My friend, whos opinion in Mtg I hold to the highest, ran a U/B trix once and had exceptional results with it. The black element for the massive draw with Necro and Bargain combined with Illusions is sick.

I thank you willow for stating an opinion for it, esp. with the mana leak vs counterspell choice,  but I need more feedbakc from some one. I want to keep it U/B but I need help tightening the deck out.

Is there a reason you don't splash white for Academy Rectors so you can just win?

I am still tossing that around, I have seen trix deck whomp ass even with out the Reactors. Even if I do what would I be splashing for? Balance? StP? Seal of Cleansing?

i have a friend with a trix deck with rectors, and the splash is very useful, because you may run StP, balance in the SB (i don't like it maindeck) and cards like abeyance against control or something like that

Swords to plowshares in Trix are you guys kidding? Trix deals exactly 20 damage, and stp makes your opponent gain life!

Ha! I never thought of that. Thanks for pointing that out.

Actually, I knew that  on the inside, that is why I do not want to run white at all. I haveseen the Mono Blue and U/B version of these deck run, the U/B is far more succsesful than the Mono Blue.

What I really need is critiqueing on my orgional deck idea, I do have some edits to do though;

I might phase in Intuitions(seach for the Illusions) and/or Boomeranges (To retrive my Donated Illusion back to my hand)

I think that you don't need much removal because illusions gains you 20 life, so that you have a huge life buffer.

there must be a playable way to clear the board to keep it clean or to win faster, but I really can't think of a way besides rector or drains.

Actually, that 20 extra life won't last to longaround here, lots of aggro..lots of big smack you in the face turn 2 aggro.

I have nailed down the deck list but I needsome last opnions....

Should I be running Intuitions? I really enjoy this card and it has been loyal to me in the past...

Let's not forget that if you take long enough to lay Illusions, your opponent may afford its cost long enough to pull that win.

That's why Capsize is so important. You get an instant win when you assemble your combo pieces, otherwise you're just toying with luck, and long it takes for you (and your opponent) to get their decks to "do their thing".

I think that chain of vapors would be more viable, and what I meant by mana leak was mana drain. my bad.

Razz Thanks J.

Now, Intuiton or no? Is my black dig good enough or does it need that extra push. But again, would Intuition go against the reason for having black in their in the first place?

I knew I wanted to play U/B Trix at waterbury! But I choose to play FCG...grr. The only Trix decks I saw there where all Rector based...any U/B?

So, Intuition or not, or how about Lim-Dul's Vault? I really love that card.

You should play 1 or 2 copies of Lim-Duls Vault it is a good search card , altough you shouldnt play more because of the life loss. IMHO intuition is too slow against the faster decks.

If you want to look at a new (old) trix deck that has performed well, check out this tourney report from the recent Waterbury tournament:

Quote

While you can slow role for the win, the results seem to point towards a combo version being superior.  It sort of makes sense since trix was originally a combo deck, and that the format is pretty fast right now.
