Classic (Type 1) Responses 18 Jan 2005

Before Christmas we looked at the growing interest in Classic Magic: The Gathering format events (Type 1) and tried to work out how best to fit this into our event schedule for 2005.

We could not agree internally on how to run them so we asked you the following questions:-

Question 1

Should Factory set and International Collector sets be:-

 a  Excluded
b Form part of the proxy count
c  Allowed if played in sleeves

Question 2

How Many Proxy’s should be allowed:-

 a  3
 b  5
 c 10
 d Unlimited
e 5 plus £1 to a charity of our choice for each additional proxy

Question 3

When should this event be run and how:-

 a  Once a year
 b  Once every three months
c  Every month as a side event
d Every month as a main event alongside another event
e As part of a Constructed Day Challenge (Currently called Standard Day Challenge)

and said we would announce the results in January, so here we go:-

We had 49 responses with the following results:-

Question 1

Option a No responses 0%, Option b 36 responses 73% & Option c 13 responses 27%

This means that Factory Sets and International Collector Sets will only be allowed as proxies. But one person said very nice proxies.

Question 2

Option a No responses 0%, Option b 25 responses 51%, Option c 6 responses 12%, Option d 6 responses 12% & Option e 12 responses 25%

This means that a limit of 5 proxies will be allowed in each tournament. These will then be unsanctioned tournaments.

Question 3

Option a 3 responses 6%, Option b 37 responses 76%, Option c 3 responses 6%, Option d 3 responses 6% & Option e 3 responses 6%

This means they will be roughly every 3 months.

So based on these responses we have added the following 3 events to our schedule.

10th April in High Wycombe
23rd July in Colchester
9th October in High Wycombe

We will also add classic events to the conventions we are involved in such as Excalibur, Dragonmeet and of course Gen Con UK where we plan to hold the 2005 Nationals championships.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to respond and we hope to see you at the first event.

Any chance of knowing the entry fee? 10 Proxy would have been nice, but ah well. I don't think I can make them, unfortunately - maybe the first one, though.
