Hello!

I'm a new member to TMD, but I've been reading a lot of the posts for months and months now... finally getting to posting something. Anywho...

I was just wondering what the most reputable tourney legal sleeves would be to most of you. I've used Yanoman, Super ____, and lots of other stuff. I was mainly wondering if Rook metallic sleeves were worth the money.

Thank ya!

Metallic sleeves are usually a no no due to the fact that many Tournament Organizer's (TOs) won't allow them because you could 'cheat' by flicking the top card of your deck and seeing the reflection in the metallic finish.  This isn't true for every tournament but from my experience they won't fly in a tournament setting

I have heard a lot of good things about the Gunmetals, but haven't had the chance to pick up any, sadly. Although I plan on it!

As for the Rook metallic sleeves... I was going to purchase these mainly for casual play.  I went to a tournament a while back and a guy had to change his metallic sleeves because of the "reflection."

Thanks for the quick replies! More opinions will be appreciated greatly.

Thanks again.

for casual go nuts but i suggest the new sleaves with the pictures on the back of them (dragons/angles whatever) they last a LONG time (i beat them up with my casual deck) while they may not be tournament legal they are definatly fun and worth the money (and look excellent)

Dragon Shields, the purple ones are really great in my opinion.  Also KMC super green/blue are very good and so arn't Japanese Gunmetals.  I have a favor of the shields though.  Just my 2 gold pieces.

Gunmetals followed up Super Orange/Green/Blue.  Hobby Japan sleeves are also very nice if you can get your hands on them.

I use Gunmetals and super blues. Dragon sheilds are great too, but the Japanese sleeves are cheaper, same quality, and are cut equally.

There was a pretty long thread not long back about sleeves.  Quick search should find it or go back a few pages.

I am really happy with KMC sleeves, I ordered a truck load of super orange. Sticking with one color and just ordering a lot at once cuts down on problems with broken sleeves, swapping cards and all the time wasted sleeving and desleeving cards.

I use Dragon Shields for Type 4 because they are very durable.

For tournaments, however, I use Japanese Super _____  (usually black, but they sold out at SCG last weekend and I had to use gray) sleeves as they are much better for the shorter period of time for which they last.

A gunmetal primer.

There are two kinds of gunmetal.  The old kind (longer, thicker material) and the new kind (shorter, very thin)

The differences between the two take a period of time to adjust to.  Basically, the old kind was great for type one decks, because if you didn't shuffle them very roughly, they wouldn't warp and get bent corners.  The new ones, however, though shorter than the old kind (a huge drawback because dust accumulates near the card's edge causing damage) are considerably more durable, and can be shuffled in a much rougher fashion with minimal sleeve wear.

Gunmetal vs Dragonshield:  Dragonshield are more apt to break, and considerably thicker, making it difficult to shuffle your deck adequately without actually putting some effort in to it.  In addition, Dragonshield backs wear in definitive patterns, creating marked cards over a very short period of time.

Gunmetal vs KMC:  KMC tear very easily, and if there's a lot of moisture in the air (or even extreme cold) the sleeves stick together and make for suboptimal shuffling.  You can pick up a deck in gunmetals after it's been in your car overnight and it's ready to go.  If you leave a deck sleeved in KMC, you need to resleeve.

Gunmetal vs MaxPro:  MaxPro tear like paper and have massive bubbling on the sections where the clear plastic touches the color.  Penny sleeves do a better job here both for shuffling and card protection.

Gunmetal vs New UltraPro:  UltraPro has made waves in their sleeve design since Raven Black's release, getting a very Dragonshield-like effect without the stupid thickness and wearing issues.  Unfortunately, they're still difficult to shuffle adequately, they do break (albeit much harder than anything else in this list, sans gunmetal) and they're often terribly short.

In conclusion, sleeve in gunmetal.  Hold it, love it.

No stores sell gunmetal sleeves in my area. Can someone point me to an online site that sells them?

Thanks.

Purple Dragon Shields. But Dragon Shields are really good sleeves whatever color you fancy.

Are those the Gunmetals everyone is talking about? I use them on occasion, but I really don't like how thin they are.

I like DragonShield Fusion and Purple, but any color is good. Ultra Pro Pink for my draft decks  Very Happy  If the sleeves would just match between packs, I would use them on my deck... Pink sleevs 4L.

I think we avoided about 15 accidents on our way in and out by a very narrow margin. I had no fear, but I think Angel was developing a complex about it.

I've been looking for a nice playmat for a while now. T&T is always sold out and I don't live anywhere near a card shop (closest is an hour). There is one about an hour from here specializing in comics and miniatures so they will most likely have one of some sorts.

I'd be very happy if someone could direct me to a link.  Wink

Gunmetal sleeves are the best. They last about 3 times as long as normal sleeves for me, and they're a little bit taller than most so the tops are better protected.
