One of the biggest but unimportant mysteries in life has been why people love Chocolate so much when I find the taste so repulsive.  It makes me dry heave almost.

Here is my question: Do you Find Chocolate Tasty? [/i]

OMG Steve chocolate is amazing.  I puffy heart chocolate in a major way.  This, by the way, gets you points with the womens.  I have always wondered what was wrong with the people who were totally indifferent to chocolate.  I understand if you think it tastes bad, I understand if you love it (<3), but I can't imagine being on the fence about it.

To sum up, chocolate is the wind beneath my success, and the secret of my wings.

EDIT: And yes, to answer the question, I find chocolate VERY tasty.  Extremely.  Doug nailed it with the dark chocolate in particular.

My feelings toward chocolate are entirely based on its quality and what it's combined with. A plain Hershey bar isn't worth the negative health effects it brings with it, but even the simple upgrade to a Snickers bar ups the taste about an order of magnitude. I guess, now that I think about it, chocolate by itself does not impress me, but it is a very effective complementary element to most sweets.

Chocolate is awesome. I am guessing you have tried many different kinds of it in your quest to understand this drug. In case you haven't, try some chocolate from those tiny countries in Europe, like belgium and switzerland. American chocolate is for the most part cheaply made and low quality, and doesn't approximate the true ecstatic potential of chocolate.

Quote from: Friendly Neighborhood Internet Search Engine
Chocolate is mildly psychoactive since it contains theobromine, small quantities of anandamide, and cannabinoid breakdown inhibitors N-oleolethanolamine and N-linoleoylethanolamine, as well as caffeine and tryptophan.

Despite these ingredients, chocolate is probably most enjoyed because of the phase change that occurs (melts in your mouth) and because it triggers the release of endorphins.

Really good, dark chocolate like Valhrona is something like cognac, a fine cigar or good espressso. You have to work at it a little to enjoy it, but the depth of flavor, the richness, the mouth feel is incredible. Steve and I were having this discussion earlier, and that prompted him to ask here.

I think it's the fatty mouthfeel that triggers a contented response in our brain.

The emotion commonly known as love can be approximated through the consumption of large quantities of chocolate.

Chocolate is a wonderful creation, and I like it in most, if not all, of its forms.  For example, today I had a chocolate croissant, whereas tomorrow I will likely have a brownie.  Over Christmas, I consumed a large amount of chocolate in the form of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, and I frequently turn to chocolate for quick energy if I get tired while driving.  One of my favorite beverages is Hot Chocolate, and one of my favorite cereals is Cocoa Crispies.

Chocolate truffles are orgazmic.

Chocolate chip cookies, chocolate ice cream, chocolate bunnies, chocolate cake, chocolate syrup.  All delightful delicacies that the human race has blessed itself with.

Oh chocolate, I could go on and on and on, but I mustn't, lest I go mad from withdrawl.  Until tomorrow, my delightful desert. <3

I would attend any tournament with a couple of boxes of Belgian chocolates as first prize. How the hell can anyone hate good chocolate? Frenchy chocolate mousse that makes you feel like you are overdosing is the best way to end a good meal. A who doesn't want a double chocolate fudge brownie swimming in chocalate syrup? I gotta go get some now.

Chocolate is overrated. It's a decent sweet, and certainly has its moments, but is not the be all end all of candies.

Unless you have ovaries, in which case you probably have a stronger emotional attachment to it than you do to your own flesh and blood.

Kl0wn, that made me snarf. Thank you, silly boy.

You ask the correct question. The enigma surrounding mankind's attraction to chocolate has more or less been solved scientifically. Earlier in this thread metion was made of the psychotropic effects of cholocalte. Some more fatcs:

Quote
Part of the enjoyability of the chocolate eating experience is ascribed to the fact that its melting point is slightly below human body temperature and so it melts in the mouth. Chocolate also releases endorphins in the brain (like an opiate), which makes it nice regardless of taste.

Some amusing chocolate research-related tidbits:

Quote
Chocolate is actually toxic to all animals, but the average human being would have to eat about 20 pounds of chocolate in one sitting (a nearly impossible feat) to be affected. (...) A typical 20 kg dog will normally experience intestinal distress after eating less than 240 g of milk chocolate, and won't experience bradycardia or tachyarrythmia unless it eats at least a half a kilogram of milk chocolate. If it does not expel the chocolate from its system because of the fat and sugar content, then it would have a 50% chance of surviving after eating 5 kg of milk chocolate. Dark, sweet chocolate has about 50% more theobromine and thus is more dangerous to dogs.

The mystery of why YOU don't like it remains as of yet unsolved. Possibly you're a dog. Or simply not human. Or maybe you just don't like the endorphin release in your brain (these regulate feelings of pain and hunger and are connected to the production of sex hormones, which explains the fabled relationship between chocolate and sex). Try opium. If you don't like that either, we're probably onto something.

Try chocolate body paint on a sexy woman.

It is possible you still won't like the taste but who the hell cares?

For those who don't have access to high quality chocolate, I have to agree that chocolate plus something is a good idea. I like mint. After Eights and Bendicks are very very good AND come in individual packages so you can scoff then without getting chocolate on your fingers which could find its way onto your card sleeves.

Yes, it is true, giving a woman chocolate does increase your chance of having sex with her (assuming she isn't a relative or anything icky like that). Alcohol also does this but strangely enough chocolate liquors don't seem to have the effect, possibly because they are horrible.

Don't ever try French high cocoa chocolate. This is nasty in an eating-a-cigarettte kind of way. I am pretty sure the French just export the stuff because I didn't see any in Paris. Of course everyone knows the Belgians are the masters of chocolate, possibly because there is nothing else to do there.

P.S. Regarding the body paint, try to do it round her place, that stuff ruins your sheets

Standard American milk chocolate is overrated in terms of taste. It is ok, but I find it too overpowering and sweet when consumed alone.  Dark chocolate is too bitter for me.

Do you like white chocolate Steve?  Back when I used to consume dairy I was completely in love with it, while my relationship to more standard varities of chocolate was quite conditioinal.

Although Soy Dream Chunky Mint Madness frozen non-dairy desert has a chocolate base and is probably the best sweet food ever made, if not tied with the Soy Dream Cookies and Cream.

I don't think it's so odd if most people like it.  It's more like normal then.  As for what it tastes like, well... it tastes like chocolate.  I can't think of anything that tastes quite like it.

When a man is tired of little round pieces of crispy bread named 'beschuitjes' covered in chocolate sprinkles called 'hagelslag', he is tired of life.

I myself like my 'hagelslag' pure (possibly because the bitter taste goes well with the 'beschuit') but my regular chocolate milk. Noy too milky, however, since that tends to make it nauseatinlgy sweet (though I do enjoy small amounts of white chocolate once in a while). My girlfriend is half Belgian and as such enjoys a good chocolate praline (I have no idea how she keeps thin). She likes pure chocolate exclusively and loathes milk, saying that 'the sweetness ruins the taste of the cocoa' (we're dealing with a purist here).  She has an expensive taste, too, and is only willing to eat chocolate from the well-known Belgian 'Leonidas' stores.

I think enjoying chocolat or not is genetic.
