Need music recommendations

Hi all. I'm desperately trying to fill a few 80min CDs but haven't been able to find anything decent to polish them off with. I have 3 CDs on the go right now, all of a slightly different genre.

1. Metal (anything type of metal here: industrial,nu-metal,etc.)
2. Punk (again, any type goes: emo,indie,ska, etc)
3. Rock (anything that doesn't fit on either of the above CDs could end up here)

Some bands that I'm interested in but haven't gotten around to:

Skinny Puppy
KMFDM
Slayer

Any good tracks by these bands, and any recommendations with respect to the above genres of music would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Metal / Industrial: pretty mych everything by Ministry. Especially the Psalm 69 stuff is brilliant.

Might as well start with the best albums. Anything from '16 Valve Hate' and 'Olde Tyme Hardcore' is amazing. Some highlights:

One of my favorite punk/rockabilly bands ever is The Living End. They're out of Australia and their music is crazy bouncy and rhythmic and energetic. I'd reccommend their entire collection, but if you want to just get a taste for what their sound is like, check out:

I'm downloading the KMFDM and Alkaline Trio discographies right now. I've already listened to The Mars Volta CD suggested by Shane, great stuff. I should get around to everything else today.

Is anyone out there into metal? ie. 90s or nu-metal?

Slipknot and Korn are guilty pleasures for me. I'm mostly into obscure industrial and metal, but these two-mainstreamers have different appeals to me than most people. Pretty much my favorite songs/discs put out by these two groups are the least favorites of people actually into most nu-metal. Having said that, I've been into KMFDM forever but I'm really taking a liking to the two live discs they've released.

I also recommend the new Skinny Puppy CD. It's really good and has that SP flavor I've been missing since their last real release in 1994.

I'm a big fan of Front Line Assembly, specifically the Hard Wired album. I would look into Live Wired as an excellent Live compilation.

I like BILE because they are unique in their sound and despite what most people who've heard of them think, they have quite a range (look at the differences in Demonic Electronic/Suckpump and the Copy Machine/KRZTOFF solo-album).

I would recommend Strapping Young Lad (I've only heard a few albums but it's all been intense), Sepultura (I like both old and new), and Fear Factory (I like it all). It's solid metal stuff right there.

I don't know if I ever mentioned it, but I've also been revisiting old school NWA stuff at times. I'm also listening to a lot of Lil John right now because a lot of it is really intense/good.

I also tend to listen to some Radiohead, Buckethead, and A Perfect Circle when I'm wanting to be more relaxed.

Thanks for the recommendations Steve, I plan on giving all of them a listen. With respect to Slipknot and Korn, I'm not a huge fan of either but I'm addicted to Slipknot's "Duality" and I have assorted vintage Korn on some of my CDs, although anything they've released recently sucks big balls, IMO. I've heard a handful of Slipknot, but only the really mainstream tracks, so feel free to recommend any hidden gems you may know of.

I've listened to quite a bit of KMFDM, as recommended, but haven't been able to get into it. A few of the tracks were ok, but it wasn't the type of industrial music I was expecting. Maybe it was just the tracks I listened to, but they just didn't have that "umph" I was anticipating. I'm somewhat new to industrial music. The song/cd that really got me interested some years ago was NIN's Downward Spiral. The song "March of the Pigs" is what totally sold me on the genre. I'm not giving up on KMFDM, because there was some stuff that I liked (Flesh, Mercy), so it's probable I've overlooked some stuff. Maybe Fear Factory or Front Line Assembly has more of what I'm looking for, but I think Skinny Puppy is the next band I'll devote some time to. BTW people, where am I supposed to get this KMFDM "Sunday Bloody Sunday" cover? It's not in the discography .

Oh yeah, Steve, I was really surprised to see NWA as a part of your music selection. I also tend to revisit my westside gangsta rap from time to time, more out of nostalgia as I grew up with that music. However, I also will admit to having all of NWA's albums.

I know nothing about this Lil John character. Is it worth a listen?

BTW Bram, I just got through Ministry's Psalm 69. Not bad!

Well I'm sold on Lil John, my torrent client has just become acquainted with one of the mentioned albums. . As for Cake, I haven't heard much from the band, but their music strikes me as either hit/miss. They're definitely very eccentric, but I haven't really decided if they're for me yet. I really liked Short Skirt/Long Jacket, but No Phone blows IMO, save for the 70s porn music in the background. I'd like to hear of any other suggestions Dave, so feel free .

This is such a broad category; you could have anything from Jimi Hendrix to the Doors to Rage Against the Machine to the Strokes in here. Here are a couple of songs that don't necessarily fit into the traditional Rock mold, but are swell because of the fact that they indeed 'rock':

Wait and Bleed and Left Behind are really bad songs. I personally like subliminal verses, but a lot of people don't. Find Eyeore and Gently and give those a spin, if it's 'meh' to you, I'd probably give up on them.

Well, I'd fit Hendrix in this category but not Rage or the Strokes. Rage is a little too heavy for this CD. The type of sound that would fit here would be of the Hendrix, Radiohead, U2, Pearl Jam, etc. variety, which is a little on the softer side.
