Hi all. I'm desperately trying to fill a few 80min CDs but haven't been able to find anything decent to polish them off with. I have 3 CDs on the go right now, all of a slightly different genre.
1. Metal (anything type of metal here: industrial,nu-metal,etc.) 2. Punk (again, any type goes: emo, indie, ska, etc) 3. Rock (anything that doesn't fit on either of the above CDs could end up here)
Some bands that I'm interested in but haven't gotten around to:
Skinny Puppy KMFDM Slayer
Any good tracks by these bands, and any recommendations with respect to the above genres of music would be much appreciated. Thanks!

If you haven't already, check out Alkaline Trio, Bombshell Rocks, and Bouncing Souls for your punk cd.

Metal / Industrial: pretty mych everything by Ministry. Especially the Psalm 69 stuff is brilliant.
Punk / Hardcore: one word: Slapshot. Aggression incarnate.

Song titles, gentlemen? It's good to know the bands, but I don't have the time to go through entire discographies right now. Just list some of your favourites by any of the bands mentioned.

Slapshot Might as well start with the best albums. Anything from '16 Valve Hate' and 'Olde Tyme Hardcore' is amazing. Some highlights: - Olde Tyme Hardcore - Get It Away (SSD cover) - I Knew I'd Lose - Silence - 16 Valve Hate - Teach Me To Kill - I Want You Dead - Bigmouth Strikes Again (The Smiths cover) - The Day My Thoughts Turned To Murder Soem of the more oldschool stuff takes a little more getting used to, but songs liek Hang Up Your Boots and Back On The Map are insane. Ministry Some brilliant stuff on almost every album. Highlights include: - Reload - Bad Blood - Animosity - Unsung - No W - N.W.O. - Psalm 69 - Jesus Built My Hotrod - Thieves - The Land Of Rape And Honey Have fun

my favorite tracks from KMFDM:
Megalomaniac Stray Bullet Mercy Power Inane Blame Son of a Gun Flesh Terror Disobedience Virus Piggy Bank A Drug against War Glory Money Dirty
...I don't have a lot of their earlier stuff though. I didn't think their newest album (WW3) was that great. Zherbus is another person to ask about anything KMFDM-related.
Also, give Bile a try if you like KMFDM. They're a little less popular so they might not have songs for download from whatever you're using, but if they do let me know and I'll list some good Bile stuff too (again, another area where I know Zherbus is someone to consult).

Bombshell Rocks: -From Here On -Tonight I'm Burning -Seven
Also, another KMFDM track I like that Hyperion missed was Torpedo.

For the rock CD you may want to check out The Mars Volta. Anything on their cd "Deloused in the Crematorium" is outstanding.

I can vouch for the cover of Sunday, Bloody Sunday. It's nutty.
One of my favorite punk/rockabilly bands ever is The Living End. They're out of Australia and their music is crazy bouncy and rhythmic and energetic. I'd reccommend their entire collection, but if you want to just get a taste for what their sound is like, check out:
Tabloid Magazine I Want A Day Growing Up
How indie do you want to go, by the way? These are all more of an experimental than a rock sound, so take that if you want it. I like some pretty weird stuff, you might want to check out:
Beulah-- "A Good Man Is Easy To Kill" Starlight Mints-- "Submarine #3" RATATAT-- "Seventeen Years" Pas/Cal-- "Bronzed Beach Boys"
If you're looking for indie rock, you can't beat:
The Hives-- "Main Offender" The Caesars-- "Jerk It Out" Simian-- "La Breeze" Mclusky-- "She Will Only Bring You Happiness" Dogs Die In Hot Cars-- "I Love You Because I have to"
If you like any of these, let me know and I'll give you more suggestions based on it. Hope you enjoy!

I'm downloading the KMFDM and Alkaline Trio discographies right now. I've already listened to The Mars Volta CD suggested by Shane, great stuff. I should get around to everything else today.
Is anyone out there into metal? ie. 90s or nu-metal?

Slipknot and Korn are guilty pleasures for me. I'm mostly into obscure industrial and metal, but these two-mainstreamers have different appeals to me than most people. Pretty much my favorite songs/discs put out by these two groups are the least favorites of people actually into most nu-metal. Having said that, I've been into KMFDM forever but I'm really taking a liking to the two live discs they've released.
I also recommend the new Skinny Puppy CD. It's really good and has that SP flavor I've been missing since their last real release in 1994.
I'm a big fan of Front Line Assembly, specifically the Hard Wired album. I would look into Live Wired as an excellent Live compilation.
I like BILE because they are unique in their sound and despite what most people who've heard of them think, they have quite a range (look at the differences in Demonic Electronic/Suckpump and the Copy Machine/KRZTOFF solo-album).
I would recommend Strapping Young Lad (I've only heard a few albums but it's all been intense), Sepultura (I like both old and new), and Fear Factory (I like it all). It's solid metal stuff right there.
I don't know if I ever mentioned it, but I've also been revisiting old school NWA stuff at times. I'm also listening to a lot of Lil John right now because a lot of it is really intense/good.
I also tend to listen to some Radiohead, Buckethead, and A Perfect Circle when I'm wanting to be more relaxed.
EDIT: I'll make a theoretical mix CD using the above bands.
Skinny Puppy - EmpTe Skinny Puppy - Cult Slipknot - Eyeore Slipknot - Nameless Front Line Assembly - Re-Birth Front Line Assembly - Mortal Korn - Daddy Korn - Dead Bodies Everywhere KMFDM - WWIII KMFDM - Waste Bile - Jerk Bile - No One I call Friend KRZTOFF - Serial Killer Blues KRZTOFF - Melas Chasm Strapping Young Lad - Oh My Fucking God Strapping Young Lad - Underneath The Waves Sepultura - Roots Sepultura - Chaos AD Fear Factory - Demanufacture Fear Factory - Obsolete NWA - Appetite for Destruction NWA - 100 Miles and Runnin' Lil John and the Eastside Boys - Get Crunk Lil John and the Eastside Boys - Don't Fuck Wit Me Buckethead - Destroyer Radiohead - Paranoid Android

Thanks for the recommendations Steve, I plan on giving all of them a listen. With respect to Slipknot and Korn, I'm not a huge fan of either but I'm addicted to Slipknot's "Duality" and I have assorted vintage Korn on some of my CDs, although anything they've released recently sucks big balls, IMO. I've heard a handful of Slipknot, but only the really mainstream tracks, so feel free to recommend any hidden gems you may know of. I've listened to quite a bit of KMFDM, as recommended, but haven't been able to get into it. A few of the tracks were ok, but it wasn't the type of industrial music I was expecting. Maybe it was just the tracks I listened to, but they just didn't have that "umph" I was anticipating. I'm somewhat new to industrial music. The song/cd that really got me interested some years ago was NIN's Downward Spiral. The song "March of the Pigs" is what totally sold me on the genre. I'm not giving up on KMFDM, because there was some stuff that I liked (Flesh, Mercy), so it's probable I've overlooked some stuff. Maybe Fear Factory or Front Line Assembly has more of what I'm looking for, but I think Skinny Puppy is the next band I'll devote some time to. BTW people, where am I supposed to get this KMFDM "Sunday Bloody Sunday" cover? It's not in the discography . Oh yeah, Steve, I was really surprised to see NWA as a part of your music selection. I also tend to revisit my westside gangsta rap from time to time, more out of nostalgia as I grew up with that music. However, I also will admit to having all of NWA's albums. I know nothing about this Lil John character. Is it worth a listen? BTW Bram, I just got through Ministry's Psalm 69. Not bad!

Well I'm sold on Lil John, my torrent client has just become acquainted with one of the mentioned albums. . As for Cake, I haven't heard much from the band, but their music strikes me as either hit/miss. They're definitely very eccentric, but I haven't really decided if they're for me yet. I really liked Short Skirt/Long Jacket, but No Phone blows IMO, save for the 70s porn music in the background. I'd like to hear of any other suggestions Dave, so feel free . Steve, here's what I've heard from Slipknot: Wait and Bleed Left Behind All of Subliminal Verses Supposedly their other albums have good tracks, but I haven't dug them out yet. If you know of any, do tell.

1. Metal (anything type of metal here: industrial,nu-metal,etc.) I can be of no assistance here. If you are looking to do another cd of Rap music, then I can definitely lend a hand. And I promise I will not include shit like Lil Jon. 2. Punk (again, any type goes: emo, indie, ska, etc) We don't know what you already have on this cd, but it would be a crime if no one mentioned some of the obvious all time heavy hitters like: The Clash - London Calling Ramones - I Wanna Be Sedated Ramones - Blitzkrieg Bop Ramones - Judy is Punk Sex Pistols - Anarchy in the UK Sex Pistols - God Save the Queen Stooges - Search and Destroy Here are a couple of other good songs that don't have the big names: MxPx - Teenage Politics NOFX - Turning Japanese (cover of The Vapors original) Sludgeworth - Anytime 3. Rock (anything that doesn't fit on either of the above CDs could end up here) This is such a broad category; you could have anything from Jimi Hendrix to the Doors to Rage Against the Machine to the Strokes in here. Here are a couple of songs that don't necessarily fit into the traditional Rock mold, but are swell because of the fact that they indeed 'rock': Gravediggaz - Bang Your Head Ben Folds Five - Song for the Dumped Freestylers - Dogs and Sledges If you are interested but can't find some of the above, email me and I can just email them to you if you have an email account like Gmail that is capable of receiving such large files.

Steve, here's what I've heard from Slipknot:
Wait and Bleed Left Behind All of Subliminal Verses
Supposedly their other albums have good tracks, but I haven't dug them out yet. If you know of any, do tell. Wait and Bleed and Left Behind are really bad songs. I personally like subliminal verses, but a lot of people don't. Find Eyeore and Gently and give those a spin, if it's 'meh' to you, I'd probably give up on them. It's hard to suggest other music though, what with Pantera having a near monopoly on all things that rock. Personally, I hate Pantera.

I can be of no assistance here. If you are looking to do another cd of Rap music, then I can definitely lend a hand. And I promise I will not include shit like Lil Jon. I don't have a rap CD in the making yet, but I'll post in this thread when I get enough songs together to give you an idea of what I like. We don't know what you already have on this cd, but it would be a crime if no one mentioned some of the obvious all time heavy hitters like:
Stooges - Search and Destroy
That's the only one out of the list you gave that I was missing. This is such a broad category; you could have anything from Jimi Hendrix to the Doors to Rage Against the Machine to the Strokes in here. Here are a couple of songs that don't necessarily fit into the traditional Rock mold, but are swell because of the fact that they indeed 'rock': Well, I'd fit Hendrix in this category but not Rage or the Strokes. Rage is a little too heavy for this CD. The type of sound that would fit here would be of the Hendrix, Radiohead, U2, Pearl Jam, etc. variety, which is a little on the softer side. Here are a couple of other good songs that don't have the big names: MxPx - Teenage Politics NOFX - Turning Japanese (cover of The Vapors original) Sludgeworth - Anytime
Gravediggaz - Bang Your Head Ben Folds Five - Song for the Dumped Freestylers - Dogs and Sledges
I haven't heard of any of these songs, I'll give them a go and get back to you. Rage Against the Machine obviously kicks ass. Yeah, they're in my Top 3 bands, so I've have/heard probably everything they've ever released. Wait and Bleed and Left Behind are really bad songs. Awww I like Wait and Bleed, although I agree that left Behind is ass.

Sevendust - Trust Queens of the Stone Age - First It Giveth Our Lady Peace - Whatever Stuck Mojo - Propaganda Foo Fighters - Everlong Killswitch Engage - Breathe Life Everlast (feat. Carlos Santana) - Babylon The Offspring - The Kids Aren't Alright Green Day - Give Me Novacaine As for Cake: Try Dime or Italian Leather Sofa... if you don't like those, you should probably stick to the radio releases - The Distance (which always makes me rock out), Sheep Go To Heaven, and Never There. Also Rich, I had a feeling you had already crammed a bunch of Disturbed on these CDs, so I didn't mention those gems.
