Congratulations to Joel Mangner for winning my Mox Ruby on Sunday. There were 18 players.

Top 8 and decks were:
Joel Mangner - UR Workshop
Caleb Scherer - 4C Workshop
Charlie Foster - Oath Orchard
Pete Endicott - 4C Workshop
Brian Edgar - Oath Orchard
Kevin Bopp - Oath Orchard
Wes Cherry - Control Slaver
Chris Smiddy - Control Slaver

Game 3 of the finals was won by Joel via turn 2 Tinker for Memnarch w Gilded Lotus on board, to steadily rob Caleb of all his permanents, while beating for 4.

In March we will be giving away a Mox Jet, tentatively scheduled for 3-20-03. In the mean time we have T1 tournaments twice weekly, wednesdays @ 7 with unlimited proxies, and sundays @ 3 w 5 proxies.

Deck lists weren't required, and I don't have that information.

Although the tournament was a blast, there was one minor detail that wasn't announced to the players that was very irritating.  Upon entering my quarter final match in the Ruby tournament.  I noticed my opponet not only had Power 9 pieces proxied in his deck but a complete playset of Mishra's workshops.  My buddy Joshua Roughly brought it to the judge's attention that there were decks out there with more than 5 proxies in them.  The judge asked if the proxies had vroughman written anywhere on them.  Obviously they did so he responded that they were in fact proxies of vroughman.  The judge said that the proxies made by him don't count towards your five proxie limit since they are made so that anyone can purchase them for 15$ A POP! from the store.  Since this was never brought to my attention before the tournament started.  Nor during any round of the tournament.  I sat in my quarter final games with a total of 5 proxies and attempted to run the best possible games of Oarchard Oath that I could.  It was appauling to have nothing of this potential non-restricted proxy limit brought to my attention as I only owning one piece of the power nine ran a lotus petal and a soul ring where if I actually owned the actual cards and not exceeding my five proxy limit would have ran a Mox ruby and a Mox jet.  Upon finishing 3rd in a "5 Proxy! tournament with only 5 proxies I felt quite humble with myself." Especially since the 2 who finished above me had far more than the assumed 5 proxy limit.

yeah while watching my friends who made the top8 i noticed the same thing, and after one of them lost to a player who as we commented then as "not even having workshops". while an interesting way to produce some money for the store @ $15 a pop could almost make me feel bad for spending $350 on a REAL mox from the store. on the long ride home we discussed how much the vroman proxies hurt other players. we went up there missing a player so we only had 8 pieces of power plus 15 proxies to divide up amoung three players. this is vintage thats what people do either you get to play the power you own (and worked for) plus 5 proxies or do without. if it was mentioned before the tournement it might be different and to tell you the truth i don't have a problem with vroman himself playing these because i know he's sold most of his highend cards to support the shop. i enjoy the tournements alot and wouldn't miss one now, but please do something about this issue before the next mox might fall in the hands of someone who is getting by so easy.

I placed 4th at the Emerald tournament in January and I think my 2nd round Swiss loss was to the same guy.  The explaination I was given didn't even include the $15 part.  He was just playing with the "owner's power", I was told.  That, combined with a ruling I found to be in poor judgement has made me question if I want to go there again (it's a 4.5 hour drive for me).

even though i disagree with the "vroman proxies", and it's a bit of a drive ( 2 hours or so ) I have to say that it's got a great metagame to play in. The players ( for the most part) are friendly, and the payout for prizes is great. I will keep showing up for the tournaments. All in all orge's is a great place to play.

I personally have no problem with vroman or his proxies.  Although expensive it obviously proved to be the edge for winning Caleb his games.  I thought it was simply a discredit to the store for not making sometype of announcement to the players from out of town that were unaware of his proxies or there ability to save you from the limit of 5.  Regardless to the number of people that were cheated out of the mox without this key information I do look forward to returning to play in march.  Perhaps Caleb you can even play as you put it "a really crappy vitange player who doesn't have a clue what he is doing" Joshua Roughly.  I personally would like to watch you scrub out to him and have your face kicked in.  It takes a lot to play the deck he creates and wins a power 9 tournament and to say he has no clue what he is doing.  Better yet how about I ask you a good question or two...  How many MeanDeck players have you beaten?  How Many members from short bus have you beaten.  Or better yet how often do you netdeck.  You won't be so lucky this next time around

I had a similar experience at a tourney.

It was a 10 Proxy tourney that I drove 3 hrs for

we get there and as we are filling out our deck reg. we find that 10 proxies means you must OWN the card, but you dont have to play with it. And you have to have the power or whatever with you.

Store owners need to make sure that they are clear as to what the proxy rules are and what is to be expected, this information should be shown on the website or whatever advertising they are running.

I would be extreemly angry if I made top 8 and then lost to a 15 proxied deck in a 5 proxy tourney, not realizing I could of done the same.

By the way, I lost in the finals to CS in that tourney, I was forced to run sligh.  Rolling Eyes

I sincerely apologize about not making known the "vroman proxy rule" I created. Everyone of the local players is aware of the rule, and it literally didnt occur to me that the out of towners obviously would have never heard of it. Not posting the rule ahead of time was a stupid oversight, and Im kicking myself that it hurt some players experience at what is supposed to be our premier events. That said, I am definitely going to keep the rule, and ensure that everyone knows in advance that is what to expect. Also if players think its worth the money to buy something that looks cool, but only has play value in one store, they can do so in time.

So with that disclaimer out of the way, here is the official proxy rule at Ogre's Cards. In our tournaments, proxy cards created and signed by me, Robert Vroman, do not count toward the proxy limit in a given non sanctioned event, even if ordinarily no proxies would be allowed. There are several dozen of my cards already in circulation, which the current owners have been known to trade. New cards can be bought from me at a price of $15 a piece for P8 cards, and $10 for anything else. When you buy proxies from me, its custom made to order, you can have any card proxied onto any kind of card type, with any kind of drawing you want. For example, I can draw an Ancestral Recall with your face on the guy w the crown in the foreground. I went to art school for an entire semester, so you know you're getting quality workmanship. Ive got an entire binder full of random cards Ive drawn to kill time sitting behind the counter on slow days. I charge $15 bc first of all drawing these cards takes time and effort from me, and I have to make it worth something to you, or else I might as well just make the tournaments infi proxy, or have no extra proxy rule at all. $15 I think is an appropriate investment to make up for not having power, while keeping in mind that the card has no value outside my shop.

Again I apologize for not dispensing proper information about the tournament, and hope this clears that up and will see you all again in our coming power events.

Lastly, let me assure you no one is a bigger fan of Caleb, than Caleb.
