Some Interesting events at the tournament:

"Rhyno" Ryan Spindlar Only lost 1 game in his way to the top 8, getting
1-0'ed by belcher before he even got a turn.

In the 6th round, ICBM's Mike Solymossy (Myself, 13NoVa), was able to Hardcast a sundering titan on GWS's Philip Schmidt (MoxLotus), Destroying his only Mountain.  Mike then fallowed up By Cunning Wish for Rushing River, to bounce Phil's Only Mana producers, Sol Ring and Mox Pearl, Locking him under his own trinisphere while Beats for 7.

Somewhere in the 2nd or 3rd round, Ryan Mayrand faced off versus Tommy Kolowith in the most unrealistic of events at this tournament, a RIDDLER MIRROR MATCH.  The game went down to time, With Ryan Mayrand having a Dreadnaught in play.  Tommy Regrowth a Tinker on turn 3 of Time, and Duped his dreadnaught.   Somewhere a juggernaught was played, but ryan played it outright, so it had to attack, allowing tommy to swing for JUST ENOUGH to go lethal on turn 5.

In the top 4, manuel had to mulligan to 5, and Ben Opened up with Land Lotus, Isochrom Scepter, Imprinting ANCESTRAL RECALL.

In the Finals, Rhyno had Memnarck and Sundering Titan in play.  Ben Swords memnarch, and then Swords Sundering Titan.  One of the two was forced, So Ben Plays Yawgmoths will, plays the tundra that was previously slagged by the titan, and sends it farming.

there you have it

I Personally want to give props to Hi-Val for creating TurboTitan.  I also want to thank I@n DeGraff for Discovering the power of Pulse of The Grid.

Looks like it was a good tournament. I miss these tournaments out here in lonely old New York.

It's good to see Ryan playing well in T1, tell him John says hello. And a shout goes out to all of my Milwaukee peeps! Ryan, James, Craig, and Pete are you still playing there?

Thanks for the posting and commentary Mike!

While it was covered in the original post, I have to highlight the Riddler-on-Riddler mirror match from the second round. It was funny that the mirror occurred at the last table and both of us went on to win every match and T8. I thought it was a fun deck to play - I hope Tommy would agree.

Overall, I think that a good time was had by all - and the (friendly) GWS vs. ICBM rivalry made it a bit more interesting. I must concede that two teams are much healthier for the metagame than just one. Both teams each landed 3 players in the T8, so I'd say that things were pretty evenly matched.

@ Ben - Congrats for winning with Keeper - I missed the entire match, so I didn't get a chance to see the lucksack StP-StP-Will-StP play - how lucky!

@ John - We miss you man. You'll have to plan a trip back out West one of these days for an upcoming tournament.

It ended up being a great tournament and everyone in attendance seemed to have a good time.

The highlight of the tournament for me was the riddler mirror match round 2 and lonely table 15. The game started with me going ancient tomb into illusionary mask go. This was followed by a somewhat odd look by rian. he preceeded to drop 2 moxen a land to play fabricate to search for a mask of his own. i then said what!!! this is one match i did not expect to play all day. they were close games the thing that one it for me was my 2 additions the mb of the deck duplicant and regrowth. rian was a geeat opponent and i was happy to see he fought his way back to make top 8. also i wish i would have traded him my foil 3spheres he asked for several times.

i was happy with how my deck performed throughout the tourny. the only rounds i lost all day were to my friend and fellow teammate dan firstround and to my other teammate 13nova in the top 8, the loss to him however was because of my own play error.

I look foward to going to the next tourny down in milwaukee. And congrats to ben fellow teammate for taking home the mox jet.

Well there is no doubt in my mind it must have just been Ben Carp's day, congrats again. It was the first type 1 finals for both of us, were i had to mulligan for the first time all day and led to my first loss to a ICBM member in six matches. His day ended better but i cant complain with 150 in store credit. I never expected to have such a dominating day and even with the loss in the finals 6-1-2 on the day 12-3 in games. So now i can say pulse of the grid is the nuts. Props to everyone that came out for this one. Also to my team GWS and ICBM for holding down a combined 13 top 8 slots out of 16 the last 2 weeks.

@bedafile: Good to hear from you john and like ryan said you need to make it out hear for a tourney one of these days. Drop me a line if you can.

It was interesting that a Keeper deck went the distance in a field full of 7/10 men that destroy lands.

Ben - would you care to comment on your matchups throughout the day? Did you see many Titans prior to the finals, and what impact did they have upon your games/matches?

I know that you customized your deck to include Masticore for Welder control, but why the Scepter? It seems as though a lot of folks tried it out when Mirrodin came out, but for some reason moved away from it. Drain or Ancestral on a stick is pretty strong, but I have to imagine that there's a reason it hasn't become a regular inclusion in the mainstream metagame.
