1
Legendary land
T: Add one mana of any color to your mana pool.

Not this land costs mana as it is a rebuildable palace so it costs "money" to build and you can only play this and not this and another land.

Aslo note its legendary land so you can only have one out.

This doesn't work.

I know this won't happen in a tournament, but if my opponent has Chaos Orb in his hand while I'm controlling his turn from a Mindslaver, who flips the card if I force him to play it and activate it?

Mana cost lands!  Since that won't work, you could rework it in the form of an artifact:

1
You can't play ~this~ if you played a land this turn.
When ~this~ comes into play you can't play lands this turn.

Tap, Add one mana of any color to your mana pool.

To be honest that looks pretty ugly, but it was a try.

How about:

When "This" comes into play, pay 1 or sacrifice "This" ?

That doesn't work, Pizzatog. It's no better than coming into play tapped, since you could tap the land, itself, to generate the mana. It would have to use the Phyrexian Dreadnought wording: "If Rebuildable City would come into play, pay {1} instead. If you do, put Rebuildable City into play. If you don't, put it in its owner's graveyard."

Or you could do something like:

When ~this~ comes into play you may pay 1.  If you do ~this~ gains "tap, add 1 mana of any color to your mana pool"

You could then add the if you don't, sacrifice, or you could just leave the ability to play a permanent with no abilities which could be useful for braids or something.

That sounds awesome. I vote for this.

That's basically just a CIP tapped city of brass without the life loss, though. Was Grand Coliseum that bad?

How much difference is there between this and Darksteel Ingot? Instead of paying {3} for your 5-c generator, you're paying {1}. Whether you pay the {1} or not, this costs a land drop, but I don't see any new design space being explored with this card.

A slightly different idea, but the same mechanic.  I think it is a neat idea, too, taking it to the next extreme where it's just a blank permanent if the cost isn't paid.

EDIT: that cycle is done and waiting to be added.

It's a little different from ingot because it's a land, not an artifact and not indestructible.  Removal type, removal protection, and costing you a land drop.  Whichever of the main wordings in consideration is chosen would make this a strong multicolor land.  I'm not so sure having a land like this is bad every now and then, though.  All lands really do is allow players to play their cards, as the Wizards say Wink
