Minamo, as seen in the latest PT results can work as a second Gaea's Cradle. Which also makes it a second Academy, something extremely powerful in our environment. Has this been used in T1? or is the format too fast for that?

Deserted Temple's been legal for how long now?  Yes, tapping for blue is a teensy bit better, but I don't think that pushes it over the edge.  You can also play more than one Deserted Temple.

To reference Minamo, the problem is the only decks that want to run minamo prefer to run

a)workshops or
b)volcanic islands or fetchlands instead.

Providing only one color and some synergy is not enough to qualify a card for type 1.  If Minamo had any color fixing capability, it would be playable.  However, the problem is that a single-color deck would never use minamo, and a multi-color deck needs to run basic islands instead of minamo and single-color-producers because of the metagame necessity to run basics and have your nonbasics provide multiple colors of mana.  It's just not playable in type 1.
