The point is that they don't care. They will still win if they are going to win, and it won't matter if you have mage or not.

I'm not going to say that cutting twist is a good idea, but I do agree with a couple of ideas conan has put out.  Vs. Tps example that he gave is pretty accurate in my opinion.  I have been playing tps for some time and a resolved mage naming tendrils doesn't make me happy any more.  I can't play the part of combo any more.  First I have to duress and then resolve either wish for chain or chain from md.  Its much easier for control to stop chain of vapor than tendrils of agony.

Meddling mage isn't a great card, just a decent one.  Adding it does change the functionality of the deck but doesn't necessarily make it worse.

To answer your question, yes. I would. I would rather have a game breaking card or a card i can cycle into something good than a Meddling Mage. And while you may not always have Drain mana up on turn 2, you're far more likely to have it than Mage mana. Regardless, just showing Drain is sometimes enough to discourage an opponent, while Mage requires you to tap out and show vulnerability.

I think that meddling mage can produce strong results in a deck packing four duress.  Tapping out to mage after a turn one duress is not a negative play; a resolved mage isn't gamebreaking but it is a positive effect for you.

I'm not going to quote all this stuff but I'm going to say stuff that pertains to the general play of this deck and whatever it's been played as before.

Meddling Mage is bad. Mind Twist is good. Of course you're not going to mind twist second turn, you're going to keep mana open for a mana drain, brainstorm or some other draw spell. If you're going to play Meddling Mage, go play sub par EBA. Mind Twist wins you games when Meddling mage does... nothing. Give me every example you want. The deck plays better with Mind Twist.

On another note, do not use "It pitches to FoW" as an excuse to play something. There's a reason people play good blue cards and not stuff that's otherwise useless or just bad.

That is all. Enjoy your argument.

I disagree, I play Mystical Tutor over Vampiric maindeck specifically for this reason.
