I was recently watching a Legacy match and one player was playing Trix while the other player was playing Angel Stompy.

The Trix player casted Illusions and the Stompy player said it was good, but then he annonced that he was going to put the "when Illusions of Grandeur comes into play gain 20 life" on the stack and he claimed that before that resolves he disenchanted the Illusions. The Stompy player claims that since the life gain never happened and the Illusions was destroyed the Trix player loses the 20 life before the gain life ability resolves.

No judge was on hand because this was a casual game.

Illusions comes into play.

It's comes into play abiltiy goes on the stack.  When that ability resolves, the controller of the ability will gain 20 life.

However, it is a common play to hose the Illusions player by responding to this ability.  If the Illusions is removed form play before the comes into play ability resolves, the leaves play ability will go on the stack on top of the comes into play ability.

This will result in the Trix player losing 20 life before gaining 20 life.  If this life loss reduces that player to 0 or less life, the game ends before the 20 life can be gained.

In fact, this is very similar to Worldgorger Dragon being killed in response to its CIP ability.
