I'm relatively new to Magic in general (I only started playing in tournaments after Fifth Dawn had been released) and even newer to Type 1. I go to tournaments with my teammates - if you want to call them that - almost every weekend and I'm starting to run out of tournaments. Unfortunately, my team consists of me planning on going to a Type 1 tourney every weekend and getting 2 or 3 others to come along to split travel expenses. The only recurring tournament I know about is in St. Louis - about 5 hours away from me - and I go to it every month @ Ogre's Cards. Does anyone else from the midwest know about any recurring tournaments or upcoming tournaments that would be worth attending? I'm probably going to even suck it up and drive 13 hours to go to TMD Waterbury Open. It seems that people in Indiana would rather waste their money on Type 2 cards that are good for about a year rather than spend the money on Type 1 cards that are good forever. (Seriously, when won't FoW be good?) I tried to host a Type 1 -10 proxy tournament here for a Mint English Mana Drain (which I overpaid for to get in time for the tourney) and ended up with like 5 people. Needless to say, we didn't play the tournament and I ate the money on the Mana Drain. I feel like I'm running out of Type 1 to play - save on MWS with its HORRIBLE shuffling engine. Won't someone give me a home to play Type 1? I can COOK & CLEAN!

the "midwest" is an enormous range of space, can you narrow it down? Being from chicago area, there are a whole variety of different areas within a 3-hr drive that has semi-regular tournaments - madison, milwaukee, kalamazoo michigan, in addition to the big tourneys in chicago.
Also, people probably aren't going to drive more than 2-3 hours for a Mox. If it's only a mana drain, probably not as far...

Where in Indiana are you from? Indy hosts Gencon in the summer with tons of T1 support and the T1 Worlds event. If you want to look for sanctioned tourneys (if people still host sanctioned T1) I believe the wizards or DCI site has a search engine for local tournaments. I haven't checked it in a long time though so it may not be very good, or be nonexistent.

I'm from Bloomington, Indiana - about 1 hour south of Indianapolis. Bloomington is home of IU - Indiana University (for those of you who've never heard of IU - think Bobby Knight). Almost all of the tournaments I go to are for a Mox. I don't really care which piece of P9 the tournament uses for support - I have no P9 cards and I'd rather win them. Within my range of travel: All of Illinois, All of Ohio, All of Kentucky, All of Indiana (obviously), and the lower peninsula of Michigan. I could probably go to some farther tournaments if the prize support is good enough, which is why I'm thinking about going to Waterbury. Indy hosts Gencon in the summer with tons of T1 support and the T1 Worlds event.

That's a good idea. I'll probably go to GenCon this year.

I think the most surreal thing is when a complete stranger you meet at a tournament hears your name and goes "Oh, yeah. I've read your stuff." It's kind of weird, yet feels good all at the same time.

We have weekly tourneys here in Kalamazoo that start at 5:30 on tuesdays, so I doubt you'll be able to make any of those. Chris has told me though that he plans on holding a Mox tourney sometime during May. It might have been on the 21st, but I don't remember so you should see if its on FanFare's website http://www.fanfare-se.com/. I'll find out on tuesday.

I take it you're coming to Chicago this Saturday?
Hell yes! We're leaving after I get off work tonight in about 2 hours and will be staying at a friend's house in Chicago. I'm getting Top 8 - I need a mox.

Milwaukee has tournaments on and off for a mox, and second place is normally pretty good amount of store credit (granted they have NOTHING for singles).
Chicago has PSA and SCG.
Eau Claire WI has a mox every month, but that's like, a 4 hour drive from milwaukee. i'd hate to see how far your drive would be...

I have a store in Bloomington that wants to run Type 1 tournaments but we simply don't have the community in our town. Hopefully I'll get to post some tournaments in the announcement forums and more people will come.

My name is Chad McKenzie. I live in Terre Haute, Indiana. That is about an hour west of Indy on I-70. We are going to start having Type 1 5-10 Proxy events almost weekly now. I am friends with JDizzle who posts here. He infact is why I play type one. We have a store aswell which I work at and run all of the magic for. Full Moon Games. www.fullmoongames.com This saturday is the first event the prizes will be just cash for this one since I don't know how big of a turnout we will have. Starts at 6 PM. If you want directions to our store or have any questions about how to get in contact with me email me madman3166@yahoo.com. Or just check the site.. If you also have any events in Indiana you want to post let me know maybe we can get something going. We have a decent Type 1 crowd and this seems to be the topic to tell everyone we are here. Thanks for your time. Chad M. - FMG

JDizzle is an awful driver. See Below... "JDizzle" - Finally, we get along on our merry way. Somewhere after that, Chad called me to complain about my driving…from 200 miles away. His call made me dig for the phone, because finding it myself was going to be far more exciting than letting Reb do it for me, which caused the car to swerve a bit. In retrospect, I guess Chad was right. At that exact moment he called, my driving was, in fact, awful. I really hate it when he’s right.

I've been working with the guys here in Terre Haute and trying to generate T1 interest, and have mostly succeeded. I think 6 people from the Haute (not counting myself) came up to Chicago. Now, as for the Mana Drain tournament you said you lost money on, I probably would have come if I had known about it, and would have tried to get the Terre Haute crowd to come out as well. There was a tourney for a Drain at Gamerz in Indy in mid-February, and both Hi-Val and Mike from Miami, OH came out for it. If you can get the word out better, I think you can draw a significant enough crowd to make it worth your while. Remember that it only takes 15-20 people at a reasonable entry fee ($15-20) to cover the cost of a Mox. If you let me know about it (that is, while I'm in Indiana, which I won't be this summer), I can easily make the drive to Bloomington and can bring a good number of people with me.
